Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are attracting wide attention due to their outstanding performance, extensive studies have been carried out for lead-based fast reactors (LFRs) that cooled with Lead or Lead-bismuth (LBE), and small modular natural circulation LFR is one of the promising candidates for SMRs and LFRs development. One of the challenges for the design small modular natural circulation LFR is to master the natural circulation thermal-hydraulic performance in the reactor primary circuit, while the natural circulation characteristics is a coupled thermal-hydraulic problem of the core thermal power, the primary loop layout and the operating state of secondary cooling system etc. Thus, accurate predicting the natural circulation LFRs thermal-hydraulic features are highly required for conducting reactor operating condition evaluate and Thermal hydraulic design optimization. In this study, a thermal-hydraulic analysis code is developed for small modular natural circulation LFRs, which is based on several mathematical models for natural circulation originally. A small modular natural circulation LBE cooled fast reactor named URANUS developed by Korea is chosen to assess the code's capability. Comparisons are performed to demonstrate the accuracy of the code by the calculation results of MARS, and the key thermal-hydraulic parameters agree fairly well with the MARS ones. As a typical application case, steady-state analyses were conducted to have an assessment of thermal-hydraulic behavior under nominal condition, and several parameters affecting natural circulation were evaluated. What's more, two characteristics parameters that used to analyze natural circulation LFRs natural circulation capacity were established. The analyses show that the core thermal power, thermal center difference and flow resistance is the main factors affecting the reactor natural circulation. Improving the core thermal power, increasing the thermal center difference and decreasing the flow resistance can significantly increase the reactor mass flow rate. Characteristics parameters can be used to quickly evaluate the natural circulation capacity of natural circulation LFR under normal operating conditions.
Recently, lens manufacturing and assembly technology has greatly improved. However, tight requirements of manufacturing and assembly lead to an increase in cost and manufacturing time, and in some cases the performance of an optical system may deteriorate depending on the operating environment's conditions, such as temperature or vibration. In addition, the use of a compensator is an effective method to reduce sensitivity in an ultra-precision optical system, but in the case of a small lens, such as that in an endoscope, it is difficult to use a compensator due to the size limitation of the lens barrel. Therefore, minimizing lens sensitivity is the most important technology in lens design. For this reason, there have been various attempts to reduce the lens sensitivity, and there is a trend to add functions to reduce the sensitivity in the lens design S/W. In this paper, we introduce a design technology that minimizes lens sensitivity. We first design a lens with quite good performance, then analyze the sensitivity of this lens, make a multi-configuration with high-sensitivity element error, and then reoptimize it. We prove with an example that this design technique is very effective.

In this study, amorphous aluminum silicate powder was prepared using co-precipitation method, and the influence of spray-dried aluminum silicate granular powder was analyzed and optimized by controlling the amount of aluminum silicate powder and dispersant added to the slurry. As a result, granular powder was optimally produced under the conditions of powder content of aluminum silicate slurry of 27.5 wt% or less, dispersant addition amount of 0.8 wt% or more, pH 6~9. An average particle size of granular powder showed approximately 14 ㎛ at the powder contents of 20 and 22.5 wt% of the slurry, and approximately 19 ㎛ at the powder contents of 25 and 27.5 wt% of the slurry.
Performing high-fidelity computational fluid dynamics (HF-CFD) to predict the flow and heat transfer state of the coolant in the reactor core is expensive, especially in scenarios that require extensive parameter search, such as uncertainty analysis and design optimization. This work investigated the performance of utilizing a multi-fidelity reduced-order model (MF-ROM) in PWR rod bundles simulation. Firstly, basis vectors and basis vector coefficients of high-fidelity and low-fidelity CFD results are extracted separately by the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) approach. Secondly, a surrogate model is trained to map the relationship between the extracted coefficients from different fidelity results. In the prediction stage, the coefficients of the low-fidelity data under the new operating conditions are extracted by using the obtained POD basis vectors. Then, the trained surrogate model uses the low-fidelity coefficients to regress the high-fidelity coefficients. The predicted high-fidelity data is reconstructed from the product of extracted basis vectors and the regression coefficients. The effectiveness of the MF-ROM is evaluated on a flow and heat transfer problem in PWR fuel rod bundles. Two data-driven algorithms, the Kriging and artificial neural network (ANN), are trained as surrogate models for the MF-ROM to reconstruct the complex flow and heat transfer field downstream of the mixing vanes. The results show good agreements between the data reconstructed with the trained MF-ROM and the high-fidelity CFD simulation result, while the former only requires to taken the computational burden of low-fidelity simulation. The results also show that the performance of the ANN model is slightly better than the Kriging model when using a high number of POD basis vectors for regression. Moreover, the result presented in this paper demonstrates the suitability of the proposed MF-ROM for high-fidelity fixed value initialization to accelerate complex simulation.
The aim of this study was to optimize the ozonation and ceramic membrane integrated process for greywater reclamation. The integrated process is a repeated sequential process of filtration and backwash with the same ceramic membrane. Also, this study used ozone and oxygen gas for the backwashing process to compare backwashing efficiency. The study results revealed that the optimum filtration and backwash time for the process was 10 minutes each when comparing the filtrate flow and membrane recovery rate. The integrated process was operated at three different operating conditions with i) 10 minutes for filtration and 10 minutes for ozonation, ii) 10 minutes for filtration and 10 minute for oxygen aeration, and iii) continuous filtration without any aeration for synthetic greywater. The integrated process with ozone backwashing could produce 0.55 L/min of filtrate with an average of 18.42% permeability recovery, while the oxygen backwashing produced 0.47 L/min and 6.26%, respectively. And without any backwashing, the integrated process could produce 0.29 L/min. This shows that the ozone backwash process is capable of periodically recovering from membrane fouling. The resistance of the fouled membrane was approximately 34.4% for the process with ozone backwashing, whereas the resistance was restored by 10.8% for the process with oxygen backwashing. Despite the periodical ozone backwashing and chemical cleaning, irreversible fouling gradually increased approximately 3 to 4%. Approximately 97.6% and 15% turbidity and TOC were removed by ceramic membrane filtration, respectively. Therefore, the integrated process with ozonation and ceramic membrane filtration is a potential greywater treatment process.
Steel anchor bolts are installed in concrete using a variety of methods. One of the most common methods of anchor bolt installation is using epoxy resin as an infill material injected into the drilled hole to act as a bonding material between the steel bolt and the surrounding concrete. Typical design standards assume uniform stress distribution along the length of the anchor bolt accompanied with single crack leading to pull-out failure. Experimental evidence has shown that the steel anchor bolts fail owing to the multiple failure patterns, hence these design assumptions are not realistic. In this regard, the presented research work details the analytical model that takes into consideration multiple micro cracks in the infill material induced via impact loading. The impact loading from the Schmidt hammer is used to evaluate the bond condition bond condition of anchor bolt and the epoxy material. The added advantage of the presented analytical model is that it is able to take into account the various type of end conditions of the anchor bolts such as bent or U-shaped anchors. Through sensitivity analysis the optimum stiffness and shear strength properties of the epoxy infill material is achieved, which have shown to achieve lower displacement coupled with reduced damage to the surrounding concrete. The accuracy of the presented model is confirmed by comparing the simulated deformational responses with the experimental evidence. From the comparison it was found that the model was successful in simulating the experimental results. The proposed model can be adopted by professionals interested in predicting and controlling the deformational response of anchor bolts.
This paper proposes a method to calibrate the electrode misplacement in underwater electric field sensor arrays (EFSAs) for accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures. The electrode misplacement of an EFSA was estimated by measuring the electric field signatures generated by a known electric source and by comparing the measurements with the theoretical calculations under similar measurement conditions. When the EFSA measured the electric field signatures induced by an unknown electric source, the electric properties of the unknown electric source were approximated by considering the optimized estimation of the electrode misplacement of the EFSA. Finally, the measured electric field signatures were calibrated by calculating the theoretical electric field signatures to be measured with an ideally installed EFSA without electrode misplacement; the approximated electric properties of the unknown electric source were also taken into account. Simulations were conducted to test the proposed calibration method. The results showed that the electrode misplacement could be estimated. Further, the electric field measurements and the electric field-based localization of underwater vessels became more accurate after the application of the proposed calibration method. The proposed method will contribute to applications such as the detection and localization of underwater electric sources, which require accurate measurements of underwater electric field signatures.

In the pasteurization of escalator handrails using ultraviolet (UV) sterilizers, a combination of light distribution and escalator speed has priority over other important factors. Furthermore, since part of the escalator handrail has a curved structure, proper design is needed to improve the sterilization rate on the surfaces touched by users. In this paper, two types of sterilizers satisfying these conditions are manufactured with 275-nm UV-C LEDs, after modeling the three-dimensional (3D) structure of an escalator handrail and simulating optical distributions of UV-C irradiation on the handrail's surface according to light-emitting diode (LED) positions and reflector variations in the sterilizers. Pasteurization experiments with the UV-C LED sterilizers are conducted on six types of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, with exposure times of 0.2, 5, and 15 s at an actual installation distance of 20 mm. The sterilization rates for the gram-positive bacteria are 10.63% to 27.94% at 0.2 s, 89.44% to 96.30% at 5 s, and 99.64% to 99.88% at 15 s. Those for the gram-negative bacteria are 57.70% to 77.63% at 0.2 s, 98.90% to 99.49% at 5 s, and 99.88% to 99.99% at 15 s. The power consumption of the UV-C LED sterilizer is about 8 W, which can be supplied by a self-generation module instead of an external power supply.

In this paper, a SiC nano electroless nickel plating layer with excellent corrosion resistance was fabricated using the Taguchi method. The electroless plated low carbon steel was subjected to tests to examine the influence of corrosive media, microhardness, and corrosion rate on the corrosion resistance of this alloy. Three different corrosive media (HCl, Na2SO4, and NaCl) at various temperatures (80, 90, and 100 ℃) were used, and at three different times (40, 80, and 120 min.) with a speed of stirring equal to 500 rpm. The results of microhardness were found from 134.276 HV to 278.578 HV at various conditions, while the corrosion rate results were obtained from 0.89643 mpy to 7.12571 mpy at different circumstances. Corrosion, and mechanical characteristics were explained using Taguchi design. Taguchi technique was used to account for all possible combinations of elements in order to conduct a complete study. Models that link the response and procedure parameters were developed using the results of these tests, and the analysis of variance was utilized to validate these models (ANOVA). For maximum efficiency, a function called "desirability" was applied to all responses at once.

Camel milk has a significant and pivotal role in the diet of people residing in semi-arid and arid regions. Ever since ancient times, marketing of camel milk has remained insignificant due to nonexistence of processing amenities in the camel nurturing areas, hence the utilization of unprocessed camel milk has continuously remained limited at family level by the nomads. Due to the superior medicinal values and health promoting effects, incredible growth in the demand of camel milk and dairy products have been noticed all over the world during last two decades. Such emergence has led dairy industry to provide diversified camel dairy products to the consumers with superior nutritional and functional qualities. In contrast to bovine, very few food products derived from camel milk are available in the present market. With the advancements in food processing interventions, a wide range of dairy and non-dairy products could be obtained from camel milk, including milk powder, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and even chocolate. In some regions, camel milk is used for traditional dishes such as fermented milk, camel milk tea, or as a base for soups and stews. Current review highlights the processing opportunities regarding the transformation of camel milk into various dairy products via decreasing the inherent functionality that could be achieved by optimization of processing conditions and alteration of chemical composition by using fortification method. Additionally, future research directions could be devised to improve the product quality.
