A comparison of group sequential methods in clinical trials (임상실험에서 그룹축차방법들의 비교)

  • In this paper, we derive an approximate optimal Bayes group sequential design for a given loss function. We use the Monte-Carlo method to compare the ASN(average sample size) function and Bayes risk of approximate optimal Bayes group sequential design, Pocock design and O'Brien and Fleming design. Also introduced is the concept of Bayes efficiency and percentage loss of information due to grouping for the group sequential design and use it to measure the loss of information for different group sizes.

  • In this paper, we use Fuzzy Logic and Potential field method for optimal path planning of an autonomous mobile robot and apply to navigation for real-time mobile robot in 2D dynamic environment. For safe navigation of the robot, we use both Global and Local path planning. Global path planning is computed off-line using sell-decomposition and Dijkstra algorithm and Local path planning is computed on-line with sensor information using potential field method and Fuzzy Logic. We can get gravitation between two feature points and repulsive force between obstacle and robot through potential field. It is described as a summation of the result of repulsive force between obstacle and robot which is considered as an input through Fuzzy Logic and gravitation to a feature point. With this force, the robot fan get to desired target point safely and fast avoiding obstacles. We Implemented the proposed algorithm with Pioneer-DXE robot in this paper.

An Analysis of Location Management Cost by Predictive Location Update Policy in Mobile Cellular Networks (이동통신망에서 예측 위치 등록 정책을 통한 위치관리 비용 감소 효과 분석)

  • MU's mobility patterns can be found from a movement history data. The prediction accuracy and model complexity depend on the degree of application of history data. The more data we use, the more accurate the prediction is. As a result, the location management cost is reduced, but complexity of the model increases. In this paper, we classify MU's mobility patterns into four types. For each type, we find the respective optimal number of application of history data, and predictive location area by using the simulation. The optimal numbers of four types are shown to be different. When we use more than three application of history data, the simulation time and data storage are shown to increase very steeply.

  • The recent concerns over the threat of global climate change and the requirements of national reduction of $CO_2$ emission have led to the diversification of energy resources and a large scale integration of renewable resources. In these circumstances, the policy decision currently made by the government sector includes several programs to promote the equipment of large scale generating assets to use wind energy. However, the power systems and wind farms need such innovative operation scheme schemes that maintain an adequate level of system security for continuing growth of renewable resources. This paper presents a method for determining optimal operating points for wind farms by making use of a nonlinear interior point method.

  • Stress waves have been used for geophysical and geotechnical applications for more than 50 years. The early-stage applications were simply based on travel-time measurements of stress waves and limited to site characterization. Currently stress-wave techniques are expanded to monitoring processes for grouting of damaged geotechnical structures, compaction of embankment, and deformational analyses for static geotechnical problems. Seismic techniques used to be good enough for rough estimators of engineering properties. Nowadays, the sophisticated modeling theory of stress-wave propagation substantially improved reliability and accuracy of the seismic techniques. In this paper, difficulties involved in currently available seismic techniques are discussed and analyzed. Herein some recently-developed non-intrusive seismic techniques, which make optimal use of stress waves for further improvement of reliability and accuracy, are also presented.

  • In wireless network, we propose a predictive location update scheme which considers mobile user's(MU's) mobility patterns. MU's mobility patterns can be found from a movement history data.   • The KEPCO is developing the load forecasting sysetm using land use simulation method and distribution planning system. Distribution planning needs the data of presents loads, forecasted loads sub-statin, and distribution lines. Using the data, determine the sub-station and feeder lines according to the load forecasting data. This paper presents the method of formulation processfor the long term load forecasting and optimal distribution planning and optimal distribution planning. And describes the case study of long term distribution planning of Kwangju city accord to the newly applied method.

Layout of Garment Patterns for Efficient Fabric Consumption

  • This paper presents the use of a Genetic Algorithm to find the optimal layout for the placement of garment patterns on a fabric of fixed width to minimize fabric waste. We developed a program to simulate garment pieces and their layout on a fixed-width fabric. Each piece in the order book is placed with 2 possible orientations: 0 degrees and 180 degrees. The efficiency is measured by the length of fabric used after all the patterns in the order book have been laid out. A comparison is made between the placement using our proposed genetic algorithm to that made by an expert human using our simulation program. The results from our experiments on various pattern designs indicate that our genetic algorithm can effectively be used to obtain highly efficient solutions, comparable to that done by an expert while using a reasonable amount of time. The algorithm can also be adapted for use in other areas related to optimal consumption of sheet material such as metal, paper, and leather.

Study on Computation of Optimal Tolls When Externalities Exist (외부비용을 포함한 적정통행료 산정 수단에 관한 연구)

  • It is well known that market transactions do not lead to social optima when externalities exist. Given that previous studies such as RICARDO-AEA(2014) have identified various types of external costs, we must take their magnitudes, or externalities in general, into account in order to make toll prices to achieve social optimum. Little has been done on estimation of externalities in road uses in Korea, to the best of our knowledge. We suggested to use the contingent valuation method (CVM) to estimate overall social benefits and applied it to estimation of benefits of road kill prevention as a pilot study. Our empirical model has considered heteroskedasticity explicitly and its estimation result was that individual drivers were willing to pay 147 KRW on average in addition to current toll prices for prevention of road kills. We provided general discussions of externalities in road use and various internalization measures.

  • Eddy current is usually generated in material with high conductivity by time-varying source such as AC current and also is induced in the moving source with relative velocity. The contactless magnetic brakes make use of the braking force from the eddy current generated by moving source and currently used for the secondary brakes of heavy trucks, buses and rail vehicles. This study aims to design the magnetization pattern of a permanent magnet type eddy current brake system to maximize the braking force. The analysis of the brake system is based on the two-dimensional finite element analysis. We use the sequential linear programming as the optimizer and the adjoint variable method for the sensitivity analysis.
