The aim of this study is to show the results which we analyse the interrelation among the physiological variable elements. We survey thirty fat women who don't do exercise regularly and are thirties. in order to offer basic data for setting the optimal exercise intensity through the efficient fat oxidation. We use RAMP II protocol of the Ever Green Hospital. The results are followings: 1. When the optimal exercise intensity for fat oxidation is done, there's a meaningful relation among the fat oxidation, $O_2$ max, and respiratory change. 2. When the optimal exercise intensity for fat oxidation is done, there's no meaningful relation statistically in $O_2$ max, heart rate, respiratory change, and caloric rate. 3. When the optimal exercise intensity for fat oxidation is done, there's a meaningful difference among three groups in %$VO_2$ max. However, there's a meaningful difference between group C and group A. B, and there's no meaningful difference between group B and group A.
The purpose of this study was to find out the Bcl-2 (B-cell leukemia/lymphoma-2), Bax, and caspase-3(cysteine-aspartic proteases-3) protein expression in soleus and EDL muscle according to treadmill exercise intensity in 60 week-old SD rats. The SD rats were randomly divided into four groups (n=10 in each group): control (CON), low intensity exercise (LE), moderate intensity exercise (ME), and high intensity exercise (HE). The exercise was given to the rats for 8 wk, 5 day/wk. The animals underwent treadmill exercise at intensities of 30 min at 8 m/min for the LE group, 15 min at 16 m/min for the ME group, and 9 min at 24 m/min for the HE group. The results were as follows: the expression of Bcl-2 protein was lowest in the HE group and the expression of Bax protein was highest in the HE group. The expression of caspase-3 (cleaved form) protein was observed in the HE group. For the different types of muscle fiber, Bcl-2 protein expression in the soleus muscle was decreased in all groups. Bax protein expression in the soleus muscle was increased in the HE group only. Bcl-2 protein expression in the EDL muscle was decreased in the HE group, and Bax protein expression in the EDL muscle was increased in the ME and HE groups. Consequently, the protein expression related to the aged rats shows a difference according to the intensity of exercise. In addition, caspase-3 protein expression appeared in the HE group; however, in all amounts of intensity, DNA fragmentation was not observed. Therefore, apoptosis on skeletal muscles of aged mice can be intervened with optimal exercise. On the other hand, high intensity exercise can potentially accelerate the apoptosis of muscle fiber in aged rats.
Falls are a major sources of death and injury in elderly people. Aged-related changes in the physiological systems which contribute to the maintenance of balance are well documented in older adults. These changes coupled with age-related changes in muscle and bone are likely to contribute to an increased risk of falls in this population. Regular exercise may be one way of preventing falls and fall-related fractures. However, the optimal exercise prescription to prevent falls has not yet been defined. On the literature review of exercise intervention for fall prevention in the elderly, exercise appeared to be a useful tool in fall prevention by improving fall risk factors. The optimum exercise prescription; moderate intensity frequency of 3-4 times per week, duration of 30-60minutes can contribute to decreased hazards and number of fall. Fall prevention protocol should include safety, falling effect, enjoyment, and easiness to follow for older people. Effective exercise programs suggested for fall prevention were such as weight-bearing exercise, resistance exercise, lower muscle strength with elastic band, swiss ball exercise walking, tai chi, and yoga.
Exercise is beneficial to the diabetic patients and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rat has been used for the study of exercise effect. The purpose of this study was to establish the optimal condition of induction of hyperglycemic diabetic rat using streptozotocin and to examine the preventive effect of treadmill exercise on the diabetic rat before and after streptozotocin injection. Intraperitoneal injection of increasing amount of streptozotocin up to 40 mg/kg dose-responsively induce hyperglycemic diabetic rat and inversely reduced the blood insulin level. Body weight was also gradually reduced with the increasing amount of streptozotocin. Control and diabetic rats exercised for 4 weeks before streptozotocin injection. The exercise was performed in the treadmill for 25 minutes a day and 5 times a week with low intensity (0 degree tilt, 15 m/min velocity). Following streptozotocin injection, the blood glucose level was measured every week and the rat was sacrificed after 4 weeks to measure the concentration of insulin and blood lipids. The blood levels of glucose and insulin was significantly reduced with exercise before streptozotocin injection, while those were not changed after streptozotocin injection. The levels of blood lipids such as total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride were close to normal control rats. From this study, researchers found the optimal condition of preparation of streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic diabetic rat, and the mild treadmill exercise has beneficial effect on preventing hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia. Thus, even low intensive running prevent not only diabetes but also diabetic vascular complications.
Background: To improve muscle flexibility, static stretch is the most common type and is considered safe and effective for improving overall flexibility of muscles. During the stretch, the intensity is more likely to be determined by the degree of an athlete's pain and practitioner's skills rather than quantitative measures of stretch. It is necessary to determine the optimal intensity for the stretch. Objects: The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between hand held dynamometer (HHD) and verbal rating scale (VRS) in comparison of the effects of continuance time on active (walking) and inactive (sitting) movement after static stretch. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample (n=62) recruited from a university. Participants were randomly assigned to 2 different groups (n=31 for each group) based on participants' positions either remaining in sitting or freely walking around for a series of re-assessments. Data was collected at pre-warm up, pre-stretch, post-stretch, and additional assessments at the time of 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 20 and 30 minutes after the stretch. Results: Relationship between VRS and HHD scores represents very weak correlation (Spearman's p=-.16, p>.05). Pearson's correlation analysis was conducted following the logarithmic transformation of the two scores. Pearson's correlation after the transformation still showed a very low relationship and a poor linear relationship between the two scores (Pearson's r=-.18, p>.05). Conclusion: The optimal intensity for stretch cannot be solely determined by the subjective pain perception. The objective measurement such as HHD could be used in conjunction with the pain perception.

The purpose of this study was to identify the difference and correlation in elbow joint maximal flexion strength according to measurement methods and characteristics of muscular contraction, and to develop the predictive equation of elbow joint maximal flexion strength for the optimal exercise intensity setting and accurate measurement. Subjects were 30 male university students. Elbow joint maximal flexion strength of isokinetic contraction, isometric contraction at $75^{\circ}$ elbow joint flexion position, isotonic concentric 1RM, manual muscle strength (MMT) were measured with isokinetic dynamometer, dumbbell, and manual muscle tester. Pearson's r, linear regression equation, and multiple regression equation between variables were calculated. As a result, the highest value was isometric contraction. The second highest value was MMT. The third highest value was isokinetic contraction. 1RM was the lowest. Predictive equations of elbow joint maximal flexion strength between isometric and isokinetic contraction, between isometric contraction and 1RM, among isometric contraction, 1RM, and body weight were developed. In conclusion, 1RM and isokinetic elbow joint maximal flexion strength could be seemed to underestimate the practical elbow joint maximal flexion strength. And it is suggested that the developed predictive equations in this study should be useful in criteria- and goal-setting for resistant exercise and sports rehabilitation after elbow joint injury.
In recent years, there has been a rise in epidemiological evidence suggesting the health benefits of a physically active lifestyle. However, it is not always easy for individuals to personally recognize the optimal conditions for exercise and physical activity. Wearable acceleration-based pedometers have become widely used in estimating the amount of physical activity, and to a limited extent, providing information regarding exercise intensity, but they have never been used to assess adaptation to exercise. In order to realize simultaneous activity monitoring for multiple users exercising outdoors, we developed a prototype wireless local area network (WLAN) based system. In our system, a WLAN is deployed outside, and a user wearing a smart phone and monitoring device exercises freely within the coverage area of the wireless network. By doing so, the developed system is able to monitor the activity of each user andmeasures various parameters including those related to exercise adaptation. In a demonstration experiment, the developed system was evaluated and used to monitor users enjoying a Nordic walk, after which users were immediately able to receive their exercise report. In this paper, we discuss the requirements and issues in developing an activity monitoring system and report the findings we obtained through the demonstration experiment.

In most sports, a key evaluator of athletic performance is sprinting speed. There are two trainable factors associated with speed including mechanical efficiency and force production. The squat exercise is one of the beneficial exercises implemented to enhance lower extremity power for sprinters. However, there has been little research on the optimal exercise intensity for sprinting performance. This study was to investigate whether performing different squat exercises prior to a 40m sprint would improve running speed. Ten male high school sprinters performed six 40m sprints following the different squat intensities (30%, 50%, 70%, and 90% of 1RM). A one-way ANOVA with repeated measures revealed that 40m sprint times had significantly improved after 50% ($5.27{\pm}0.13$, p<0.0001) and 70% ($5.26{\pm}0.15$, p<0.0001) of 1RM squat exercises compared to sprint times not following a squat % ($5.33{\pm}0.16$). Performing squat exercises with intensities of 50% and 70% of 1RM may improve 40m sprint times. Therefore, it is suggested that coaches and sprinters could include a medium intensity squat exercise (70%) in the warm-up procedure in order to improve sprint performance.
The aim of this study was to survey the effects of planned exercise over the age of 65 in male and female with regard to their self-efficacy, depression, and life satisfaction, based on the literatures of 14 master and doctoral dissertations published between 2004 and 2014. The subjects with program exercise habit were chosen considering the generalization of the physical characteristics of elderly subjects. The exercise duration was 50 minutes for 3 times a week for 12 to 24 weeks. Exercise intensity was an optimal aerobic exercise plan that the subjects themselves could perform. The average effect size of self-efficacy was 0.793 (26.1% increased), depression was -0.91(31.9% decreased), and life satisfaction was 1.506 (43.4% increased). These indicate that post-exercise psychological variables had a positive effect on self-efficacy and life satisfaction by lowering depression after regular exercise. Therefore, it is necessary to increase regular exercise participation and to provide sustainable scientific information for the aged and healthy living of the elderly.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of the 8-weeks back pain management program (consisted of exercise and education for back pain) in patients with chronic low back pain. Methods: A total of 20 subjects who visited the pain clinic in a university hospital were randomly assigned either to a experimental or a control group. Ten subjects in the experimental group carried out the back pain management program for 8 weeks, and 10 in the control group did not. Results: After the back pain management program, back pain and disability were significantly reduced, and back pain management behavior and back muscle strength were significantly increased in the experimental group. However, radiating pain and flexibility were not significantly changed after the back pain management program. Conclusion: Findings of this study indicated that the 8-weeks back pain management program had favorable effects on back pain, degree of disability, back pain management behavior, and back muscle strength in patients with chronic low back pain. Future research needs to examine the optimal intensity and frequency of back muscle strengthen exercise, and the lasting effects of education for back pain.
