Efficient optimal design of passive structural control applied to isolator design

  • Typical base isolated buildings are designed so that the superstructure remains elastic in design-level earthquakes, though the isolation layer is often quite nonlinear using, e.g., hysteretic elements such as lead-rubber bearings and friction pendulum bearings. Similarly, other well-performing structural control systems keep the structure within the linear range except during the most extreme of excitations. Design optimization of these isolators or other structural control systems requires computationally-expensive response simulations of the (mostly or fully) linear structural system with the nonlinear structural control devices. Standard nonlinear structural analysis algorithms ignore the localized nature of these nonlinearities when computing responses. This paper proposes an approach for the computationally-efficient optimal design of passive isolators by extending a methodology previously developed by the authors for accelerating the response calculation of mostly linear systems with local features (linear or nonlinear, deterministic or random). The methodology is explained and applied to a numerical example of a base isolated building with a hysteretic isolation layer. The computational efficiency of the proposed approach is shown to be significant for this simple problem, and is expected to be even more dramatic for more complex systems.

제어알고리즘 개발을 위한 변압기 냉각시스템의 수학적모델 (Mathematical Models of a Transformer Cooling System for the Control Algorithm Development)

  • In order to improve the efficiency of a main transformer in a train, the optimal operation of a cooling system is necessary. For the development of optimal control algorithms of a cooling system, mathematical models of a main transformer cooling system were developed. These include static and dynamic models of a main transformer, an oil pump, an oil cooler, and a blower. Static models were used to find optimal oil temperatures of the inlet and the outlet of a transformer. Dynamic models were used to predict transient performances of control algorithms of a blower and an oil pump. Simulation results showed good predictions of the static and the dynamic behavior of a main transformer cooling system. Therefore, mathematical models developed in this study may be effectively used for the development of control algorithms of a main transformer cooling system.

  • SRM의 특성 중 비선형성으로 인해 최대토크 및 최소 토크 맥동 형성을 위한 적정 운전이 어렵다. 또한 고정 스위칭각 제어 때 속도 가변에 따른 토크 형성이 불안정하여 효율을 저하시키는 문제점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 속도 가변에 따른 능동적인 스위칭각 제어가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 SRM의 비선형성으로 인한 문제점으로부터 선행각 (Advance angle)의 자동제어에 의한 토크 리플 저감과 이에 따른 출력 토크 향상에 의한 구동 성능개선을 위한 방법에 대해 모색하였다. 또한 히스테리시스 전류제어기 성능에 따른 스위칭 가변으로 인한 SRM의 최적 운전에 대해 살펴보았다.

Reactive Power and Soft-Switching Capability Analysis of Dual-Active-Bridge DC-DC Converters with Dual-Phase-Shift Control

  • This paper focuses on a systematical and in-depth analysis of the reactive power and soft-switching regions of Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converters with dual-phase-shift (DPS) control to achieve high efficiency in a wide operating range. The key features of the DPS operating modes are characterized and verified by analytical calculation and experimental tests. The mathematical expressions of the reactive power are derived and the reductions of the reactive power are illustrated with respect to a wide range of output power and voltage conversion ratios. The ZVS soft-switching boundary of the DPS is presented and one more leg with ZVS capability is achieved compared with the CPS control. With the selection of the optimal operating mode, the optimal phase-shift pair is determined by performance indices, which include the minimum peak or rms inductor current. All of the theoretical analysis and optimizations are verified by experimental tests. The experimental results with the DPS demonstrate the efficiency improvement for different load conditions and voltage conversion ratios.

Analysis and Design of Function Decoupling High Voltage Gain DC/DC Converter

  • Traditional boost converters have difficulty realizing high efficiency and high voltage gain conversion due to 1) extremely large duty cycles, 2) high voltage and current stresses on devices, and 3) low conversion efficiency. Therefore, a function decoupling high voltage gain DC/DC converter composed of a DC transformer (DCX) and an auxiliary converter is proposed. The role of DCX is to realize fixed gain conversion with high efficiency, whereas the role of the auxiliary converter is to regulate the output voltage. In this study, different forms of combined high voltage gain converters are compared and analyzed, and a structure is selected for the function decoupling high voltage gain converter. Then, topologies and control strategies for the DCX and auxiliary converter are discussed. On the basis of the discussion, an optimal design method for circuit parameters is proposed, and design procedures for the DCX are described in detail. Finally, a 400 W experimental prototype based on the proposed optimal design method is built to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. The measured maximum conversion efficiency at rated power is 95.56%.

  • Matrix converter is direct power conversion system. Matrix converter has many merits that possible bidirectional power flow, input power factor own control and system without DC-link. But matrix converter has some demerits that need many switching devices and switching loss. This paper suggest optimal matrix converter control scheme for improvement for switching loss part. Proposed control scheme verified that 10% improvement in efficiency, input current's harmonic loss and output voltage's EMI improvement.

  • In this paper a new concept, named the Extended Operational Space Formulation, has been proposed for the effective analysis and real-time control of the robot manipulators with kinematic redundancy. The extended operational space consists of operational space and optimal null space. The operational space is used to describe robot end-effector motion; whereas the optimal null space, defined as the target space of the self motion manifold, is used to express the self motion for the secondary tasks. Based upon the proposed formulation, the kinematics, statics, and dynamics of redundant robots have been analyzed, and an efficient control algorithm has been proposed. Using this algorithm, one can optimize a performance measure while tracking a desired end-effector trajectory with a better computational efficiency than the conventional methods. The effective ness of the proposed method has been demonstrated with simulations.

구조물의 에너지를 고려한 LQR 및 ILQR제어기의 가중행렬 (Weighting Matrices of LQR and ILQR Controllers Considering Structural Energy)

  • 가중행렬은 일반적인 최적 제어 설계에서 우선적으로 필요하지만 일반적으로 제어 설계자들 이 경험적 지식에 의존하고 있다. 이 논문은 구조물의 에너지를 고려한 최적제어기의 가중행렬을 결정하는 체계적인 절차를 제시하였다. 최적제어기는 LQR과 ILQR로 구분될 수 있다. 구조물의 총에너지를 고려한 Lyapunov 함수를 적용하고, 이로부터 유도된 식이 음수라는 상태를 이용하면 가중행렬을 어렵지 않게 구할 수 있다. 이러한 방법으로 산정된 가중행렬을 이용하여 LQR과 ILQR제어기를 설계하고 제어효율을 입증하였다.

  • 최적효율제어를 통한 유도전동기의 효율향상은 에너지 절감측면에서 매우 중요하며 인공신경망을 사용하면 시스템의 특성이 충분히 해석되지 않은 상태에서도 우수한 제어특성을 얻을 수 있다. 본 논문은 유도전동기 구동시스템에서 최적 슬립주파수를 추종하는 실시간 인공신경망 회로를 구성하여 운전효율을 최적화하는 제어방법을 제안한다. 제안된 최적 효율제어기는 인공신경망 제어기에 의해 시스템의 비선형성을 포함하여 전동기의 내부손실이 최소가 되는 운전점을 추종한다. 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통하여 기존의 일정v/f 방식에 비하여 고속 경부하시 경제성 있는 에너지 절감효과를 충분히 확보할 수 있었다.

  • This paper presents the design of an optimal state feedback controller for container cranes under some design specifications. To do this, the nonlinear equation of a container crane system is linearized and then augmented to eliminate the steady-state error, and some constraints are derived from the design specifications. Designing the controller involves a constrained optimization problem which classical gradient-based methods have difficulties in handling. Therefore, a real-coding genetic algorithm incorporating the penalty strategy is used. The responses of the proposed control system are compared with those of the unconstrained optimal control system to illustrate the efficiency.
