전자기력을 고려한 24kV급 초전도 한류기용 전류리드의 최적화 배열방안 (Optimal Arrangement of Current Leads for 24kV class SFCL to Minimize Electromagnetic Force)

  • Electromagnetic forces (Attractive and repulsive force), interacting between current leads show different tendency according to the arrangement of current leads on the top flange of the cryostat and the distance of each lead. Especially in case of high-current electric power devices or high-field magnets, optimal arrangement of current leads becomes one of the safety issues to be considered for minimizing the electromagnetic for ce acting on them. In this paper, we suggest an optimal arrangement method with three pairs of current leads for a 24kV class 650A superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) system which has a probability of unpredicted fault currents(i.e, 20kA).

Design of Multi-winding Inductor for Minimum Inductor Current Ripple Using Optimized Coupling Factor

  • This paper investigates the design of multi-winding coupled inductor for minimum inductor current ripple. Based on the general circuit model of coupled inductor together with the operating principles of dc-dc converter, the relationship between the ripple size of inductor current and the coupling factor is derived under the different duty ratio. The optimal coupling factor of n-phase multi-winding coupled inductor which corresponds to a minimum inductor ripple current becomes -(1/n-1), i.e. a complete inverse coupling without leakage inductance, as the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches 1/n, 2/n, ${\cdots}$ or (n-1)/n. In an opposite manner, the optimal coupling factor value of zero, i.e. zero mutual inductance, is required when the duty ratio of steady-state operating point approaches either zero or one. Therefore, coupled inductors having optimal coupling factor can minimize the ripple current of inductor and inductor size.

  • This paper suggests a decision scheme for optimal insertion resistance in an Superconducting Fault Current Limiter (SFCL) application to reduce the transformer inrush current. This scheme and the SFCL model are implemented using Electromagnetic Transient Program (EMTP). We determine the optimal SFCL resistance by EMTP simulation, and this value is applied to model the SFCL by EMTP. The simulation results show the validity and effectiveness of the suggested scheme and the ability of a SFCL to reduce the inrush current.

  • This paper presents a method of decision on where bus splitting is needed to reduce fault current level of power systems and to satisfy the fault current constraints. The method employs a modified fault current constrained optimal power flow (FCC-OPF) with X variables for the candidate locations of splitting and for decision making on whether to split or not, it adopts soft-discretization by augmenting inversed U-shaped penalty terms. Also, this paper discusses the procedure on the adequate selection of bus splitting locations based on the results of the modified FCC-OPF, to reduce the total number of the actions taken.

  • An optimal cooling method for HTS(high Tc superconductor) current leads has been analytically sought to minimize the required refrigerator power. The binary current lead is a series combination of a normal metal conductor at the warmer part and an HTS at the colder part. The lead is cooled by direct contacts with a two-stage cryocooler at the joint and at the cold end. It is clearly proven that there exists unique optimal values for the joint temperature and the current density to minimize the refrigerator power per unit current. the actual power input to the cryocooler in the optimal conditions is compared with its thermodynamic limit, and some significant issues in practical design are presented with a useful graphical method.

  • Nowadays, one of the serious problems in KEPCO system is large fault current which exceeds the SCC(Short Circuit Capacity) of circuit breaker, As the superconductivity technology has been developed, the HTS-FCL(High Temperature Superconductor-Fault Current Limiter) can be one of the attractive alternatives to solve the fault current problem. However, the parameters of HTS-FCL should be designed optimally to have a best performance. Under this background, this paper presents the optimal design method of parameters for resistive type HTS-FCL using stochastic analysis technique.

  • Analysis is performed to determine the optimal lengths or cross-sectional areas of refrigerator-cooled current leads that can be applied to the conduction-cooled superconducting systems. The binary current lead is composed of the series combination of a normal metal at the upper(warm) part and a high $T_c$ superconductor(HTS) at the lower(cold) part. The heat conduction toward the cold end of HTS part constitutes a major refrigeration load. In addition, the joint between the parts should be cooled by a refrigerator in order to reduce the load at the low end and maintain the HTS part in a superconducting state. The sum of the work inputs required for the two refrigeration loads needs to be minimized for an optimal operation. In this design, three simple models that depict the refrigeration performance as functions of cooling temperature are developed based on some of the existing refrigerators. By solving one-dimensional conduction equation that take into account the temperature-dependent properties of the materials, the refrigeration works are numerically calculated for various values of the joint temperature and the sizes of two parts. The results show that for given size of HTS, there exist the optimal values for the joint temperature and the size of the normal metal. It is also found that the refrigeration work decreases as the length of HTS increases and that the optimal size of normal metal is quite independent of the size of HTS. For a given length of HTS, there is an optimal cross-sectional area and it increases as the length increases. The dependence of the optimal sizes on the refrigerator models employed are presented for 1kA leads.

  • 종래, 위상제어의 전력전자 회로는 전원에서 고주파분이 많이 포함되고 역율을 저하시키는 원인이 되었다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 이러한 영향을 개선시키기 위하여 Optimal PWM 방식을 제시하였다. Optimal PWM 콘버어터는 전원에서 실효 고주파분을 최소화하는 것이며, Optimal PWM 인버어터와 쌍대성이 있음을 알 수 있었다. Optimal PWM 콘버어터의 전류패턴은 Optimal PWM 인버어터의 전압패턴과 같은 스위칭패턴과 제어방법을 얻을 수 있었다. 이러한 PWM방식을 실현하기 위하여 고속 스위칭소자가 필요하게 되었다. 이전에는 강제 전류회로인 싸이리스터가 사용되었으나, 최근에 와서는 전류용 TR 또는 GTO 소자 등을 사용함으로써 이와같은 PWM 특성을 쉽게 실현할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서의 전원에서 실효 고주파 전류를 최소화하기 위한 제어방법, 회로 및 결과를 제시하였다.

Analytical Approach for Optimal Allocation of Distributed Generators to Minimize Losses

  • In this paper the integration of Distributed Generation (DG) in radial distribution system is investigated by computing the optimal site and size of DG to be placed. An analytical expression based on equivalent current injection has been derived by utilizing topological structure of radial distribution system to find optimal size of DG to minimize losses. In the presented formulation, the optimal DG placement is obtained without repeatedly computing the load flow. The proposed formulation can be used to find the optimal size of all types of DGs namely Type-I, Type-II, Type-III and Type-IV DGs. The investigations are carried out on IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus radial distribution systems. The optimal DG placement results into reduction in active and reactive power losses and improvement in voltage profile of the buses.

Application of Analytic Solution in Relative Motion to Spacecraft Formation Flying in Elliptic Orbit

  • The current paper presents application of a new analytic solution in general relative motion to spacecraft formation flying in an elliptic orbit. The calculus of variations is used to analytically find optimal trajectories and controls for the given problem. The inverse of the fundamental matrix associated with the dynamic equations is not required for the solution in the current study. It is verified that the optimal thrust vector is a function of the fundamental matrix of the given state equations. The cost function and the state vector during the reconfiguration can be analytically obtained as well. The results predict the form of optimal solutions in advance without having to solve the problem. Numerical simulation shows the brevity and the accuracy of the general analytic solutions developed in the current paper.
