  • Recent issues in Optical Disk Drive (ODD) are focused on small size. Blu-ray Disk (BD), using blue laser (405nm wavelength) and high NA (0.85) objective lens. can store 25Gbyte on a conventional 12cm optical disk. Small Form Factor Optical (SFFO) drive uses 3cm disk which can store 1.5Gbyte on a disk. This kind of Small Form Factot Optical (SFFO) drive correspond to PCMCIA type memory (Compact Flash or Micro Drive). Preferably, Optical Disk has relatively low cost of the storage media per Byte rather than PCMCIA type memory. To make Small Form Factor Optical (SFFO) drive. optical pickup and its component must be miniaturized. Miniaturization of the component needs new concept of Optical Pickup. This paper is focused on two main subjects. One is Objective Lens design which can be manufactured on a wafer, and the other is optical path design of the pickup which has 2mm thickness.

  • Purpose: This study investigated medical accessibility on optical stores and ophthalmic clinics of Seoul Special City and six other metropolitan cities. Methods: By using a number of households, population, optician stores, ophthalmic hospitals, and real estate (apartments) standard market price of Seoul Special City and six other metropolitan cities provided by the Commercial District Information System (2016.6) of Small Enterprise & Market Authority, we analyzed the level of healthcare accessibility and business area zones, Statistical analyses were performed with SPSS 18.0. Results: Inchon (household 2,227/population 5,723) had the highest household and population rate per optical store, and Gwangju (1,146/2,979) had the lowest. Gwangju (24,612/63,987) had the highest household and population rate per optical store, and Seoul (10,021/24,432) had the lowest. From the consumer and patient's point of view, lower household rate per optical store is a city with good accessibility to healthcare, but from an optical store and ophthalmic clinic's view, it will have great difficulty due to issues of competition. Conclusions: Consumers and patients should be the center of healthcare. A healthcare system that can provide smooth service anywhere anytime should be constructed. However, most metropolitan cities, including Seoul, have optical stores and ophthalmic clinics densely populated where profitability and liquidity are ensured and causing unbalanced distribution of healthcare. To solve such problems, we need proper distribution of optician stores according to the population proportion and industrial-educational research to find balance point of local healthcare.

  • The results analyzing the interior space of optician's store for application of VMD are as follows. The optician's stores tend to utilize their space not just for one function, but for multiple purposes. It is becoming bigger in size and is showing that it is spending more space for marketing purposes. In the future, optical store needs to provide convenience for the customers and as a Semi-Medical space, in order to receive trust, it needs to have Test-area, Work-area, improvement in environment, and of course, a comfortable space where the customers can sit back and relax. Taking a look at the features of design, the colors and the use of materials in domestic areas has been somewhat restricted. But international areas has been using diverse colors and materials for bright and comfortable atmosphere. Now, the optician's stores has to produce various atmosphere through different and brilliant colors and materials from other stores to be more efficient and to be highly competitive.

  • One of the problems facing in all modern dental hospitals is the much efforts, manpower and space are needed to effectively sort and stack patients' charts of the various dental departments. In addition, the storage and prompt arrangement of x-ray films is also a problem. Therefore, if dental charts as well as films could be computerized, it would be easier to store and keep them; by data basing, many space, manpower and cost would be saved: data could also be effectively managed for the purpose of academic researches. This would be an epoch -making event in the development of dental hospital management. The purpose of this study is to develop a dental information processing program, that will be used to store dental treatment records and digital image data using a new record media, the optical card. The patients' charts from the dental hospital were selected. The treatment records of the chart were put into the treatment data -recording area of the program, and the digital images of various dental x-ray films were made with a scanner. These data were stored in the optical card and analyzed to get the following results: 1. In this program it is possible to put treatment records and image data into and out from the optical card, and it is impossible to correct and delete all data recorded on the optical card. 2. All data in the optical card system can be searched and analyzed on database. 3. The resolution of image data stored in optical card is above 5.9 lp/mm. 4, All data of dental charts used as samples, stored to optical cards, occupies average 14%, In conclusion, with the development of the storage system using the optical card, a dental patient's life-time treatment record can be stored in one optical card and used as a substitute for the dental chart.

  • In this paper, we implemented holographic optical memory systm which can store and reconstruct many images using new input and angular multiplexing method. In the new input method, phase infomation of input image is inputed in the recording material instead of brightness information. To do so, we represented the images, which captured with CCD camera or displayed on the computer monitor, on the liquid crystal television(LCTV) which removed polarizer/analyzer. Therefore, we can generate uniform input beam intensity regardless of the total brightness of input image, and apply the scheduled recording method. Also we can increase the intensity of input beam so reduce the recording time of input image. And reconstructedimage is acquired by transforming phase information into brightness information of image with analyzer. The incident angle of reference beam is acquired by Fourier transform of the binary phase hologram(BPH) which designed with SA algorithm on the LCTV. The proposed optical memory system is stable because the incident angle of the reference beam is controlled easy and electronically. We demonstreated optical experiment which store and reconstruct various type images in BaTiO$_{3}$ using proposed holographic memory system.

  • Optical library system consists of disc magazines, cabinets, transfer robot and drive. Transfer robot delivers desired disc or magazine in cabinet to drive which reads data of disc. Conventional archive system stores discs in a line and transfer robot moves in one dimension. However, to store more discs, new optical archive system, optical library system, is developed which stores discs in two dimension like bookcase. Transfer robot should know the position and stored data of desired magazine to get correct data. In this paper, addressing algorithm using optical character recognition is proposed. Proposed algorithm is evaluated by experiments with implemented system.

  • In this paper, we implemented a three dimensional image display system using stereogram and holographic optical memory techniques which can store many images and reconstruct them automatically. In this system, to store and reconstruct stereo images, incident angle of reference beam must be controlled in real time, so we used BPH(binary phase hologram) and LCD(liquid crystal display) for controlling reference beam. The reference beams are acquired by Fourier transform of BPHs which designed with SA(simulated annealing)algorithm, and the BPHs are represented on the LCD with the 0.05 seconds time interval using application software for reconstructing the stereo images. And input images are represented on the LCD without polarizer/analyzer for maintaining uniform beam intensities regardless of the brightness of input images. The input images and BPHs are edited using application software(Photoshop) with having the same recording scheduled time interval in storing. The reconstructed stereo images are acquired by capturing the output images with CCD camera at the behind of the analyzer which transforms phase information into brightness information of images. In output plane, we used a LCD shutter that is synchronized to a monitor that display alternate left and right eye images for depth perception. We demonstrated optical experiment which store and reconstruct four stereo images in BaTiO$_3$ repeatedly using the proposed holographic optical memory techniques.
