  • It is expected in the future that the demand of optical subcarrier multiplexing system, in which a number of small size base stations with only antenna and RF transmission are connected to central station using optical fiber, will be increased in the CDMA digital cellular mobile communication network. In this paper, in order to analysis the performance of optical SCM system fur CDMA RF signal transmission, MZ modulator is modelled as a non-linear transfer function with cubic operation. The performance degradation due to multipath signals and other user signals through MB modulator is analyzed and the performance is improved using the Rake receiver.

  • Since transmissions of large amounts of data are frequent, users require more bandwidth, and the need for communications networks having greater bandwidth is increasing. One communications network satisfying this need is an optical communications network. Therefore, studies to increase the transmission capacity of optical communications systems have been carried out. However, in a general optical communications system, a signal transmitted through optical fiber (a transmission medium) is detected through direct detection in the receiving system. This method has a disadvantage in that the entire bandwidth of the optical signal cannot be utilized. Also, when transmitting an optical signal, there is a problem where the signal-to-noise ratio is affected by neighboring channels. To overcome this situation, various studies are being conducted to minimize the influence of external interference and noise. This paper overcomes the situation by transmitting spectrum-sliced signals using the digital transmission system, FSK. Analyzing the characteristics of the signals detected in the receiver of the optical communications system, Gaussian distribution is used for the PDF of the spectrum-sliced signal, and the signal at the receiving end of the optical communications system is assumed to have a k-square distribution. The results of the analysis confirmed it is better to transmit the spectrally divided signal rather than transmit the laser source.

  • In this paper, the ADC performs research and development for high speed data transfers to minimize the optical delay. Have more $6{\mu}s$ delay in the data signal converting optical repeater transmission system existing there has been a limit on the high-speed data transmission, and signal conversion. The need to develop a new technique to reduce the delay in time within $2{\mu}s$ data signal converted by using this direct conversion system. It is desired the development of the core technologies necessary for the signal transduction component, such as mobile communications LTE, LTE advanced service transport network is established, the delay time $3{\mu}s$ technology for reducing the delay time in the signal converting a revolutionary step is applied in this paper we have developed an ADC.

  • We propose a pseudo optical N-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PO PAM-N) signal using a few externally-modulated lasers (EMLs) operating at different wavelengths, which is suitable for upgrading the transmission speed over an optical link of < 10 km single-mode fiber with low-cost components. To compare a PO PAM-N signal with that of a standard optical PAM-N signal, we perform experiments for evaluating the performance of a 51.56-Gb/s PO PAM-4 signal and standard 51.56-Gb/s optical PAM-4 signal. The receiver sensitivity (at $BER=10^{-5}$) of the PO PAM-4 signal is 1.5 dB better than the receiver sensitivity of a standard optical PAM-4 signal. We also investigate the feasibility of PO PAM-N (N = 4, 8, and 16) signals operating at 103.12 Gb/s, considering relative intensity noise, timing jitter, extinction ratio (ER) of EMLs, and dispersion. From the results, a PO PAM-8 signal performs better than PO PAM-4 and PO PAM-16 signals at 103.12 Gb/s. Finally, we suggest a timing control method to suppress the effect of dispersion in a PO PAM-N signal. We show that the tolerance to dispersion of a 103.12-Gb/s PO PAM-8 signal can be improved to ${\pm}40ps/nm$ by applying a proposed scheme.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate that indoor wireless optical communication is possible with an LED and a solar cell. A lighting LED is used for lighting and signal transmission. A solar cell is used for collecting light energy and signal detection. This scheme is very useful because transmission is possible without any additional communication systems. In experiments, wireless optical communication was carried out at a data rate of 9.6 kbps using a lighting LED and a solar cell.

  • In dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation applied into optical transmission links with multi fiber spans for minimizing the impact of nonlinearity and group velocity (GVD), implementation possibility of DM using only one fiber span for pre- or postcompensation was assessed as a function of duty cycle of RZ pulse and residual dispersion per span (RDPS). It is confirmed that DM with optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) controlled by only one fiber span could be sufficiently applied into optical transmission links, though optimal NRD is more increased than that in transmission links with the general DM scheme of pre- and postcompensation. Thus, it is expected that optical transmission system is simply designed and implemented by applying the proposed DM scheme into real optical transmission links. Also, it is confirmed that the advantageous duty cycle of RZ is 0.5 and RDPS is setting to be small value for the effective transmitting wide signal wavelength range in optical links with optimal NRD controlled by only one fiber span.

  • In this paper the driving-condition-dependent optical transmission characteristics of an STN LCD are studied. The optical transmission properties are measured for the applied voltage waveform is varied. Also, the optimum ranges of the M signal frequency and the frame frequency are investigated. An LCD is modeled by the equivalent circuit to study the effect of the parameter variation on the frequency response.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method for broadcasting in a WDM-PON system which has the merits of a simple and cost effective structure. It can be constructed using only an ASE (Amplified Spontaneous Emission) light source and a PI-RSOA (Polarization Independent - Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier). Error-free broadcast signal transmission over 30 Km for 24 channels at 1.25 Gb/s has been successfully demonstrated.

  • We demonstrate a repeatless transmission of 2.5 Gbps digital signal over 98 km opticla filbers using optical transmitter and optcial receiver which are designed and implemented using commercially available devices. The optical transmitter is realized by using a distributed feedback(DFB) laser. Temperature of the laser is thermoelectrically stabilized and the output optical power is also stabilized by using negative feedback. The output power of the transmitter is 0 dBm. The optical receiver consists of an InGaAs avalanche photodiode, a preamplifier. an automatic gain control amplifier, and a clock/data regenerator. We find an optimum decision threshold that gives the best receiver sensitivity form the measured V curve. The best sensitivity is -35.5dBm( BER-1*10S010T, PRBS=2S023T -1 ) and the overload power is -9 dBm. Finally, we achieve error free optical transmission with 98 km optical fibers. The exinction ration penalty of 2 dB. the chromatic dispersion penalty of 1 dB, and the total power penalty of 3.0 dB are measured. These results satisfy CCITT recommendation.

In order to analyze the performance of SCM optical link system fur RF signal transmission, MZ(Mach-Zehnder) modulator's transfer function is modelled as nonlinear form with the cube of input signal. And considering the multiple access interferences occurred In the demodulation of other users'CDMA signals with multipath components after passing through MZ modulator, the BER performance is analyzed.
