  • We propose a novel active fiber design for selectively generating cylindrical vector beams (CVBs) or cylindrical vector modes (CVMs) which can be applied to conventional fiber lasers. A fiber is designed to have a ring-shaped core refractive index profile which can lead to the best overlap between the active dopant distribution profile and the lowest-order CVM (LCVM) field profile. Therefore, the overlap factor (OVF) of the LCVM becomes even higher than that of the fundamental mode. We emphasize that this condition cannot be satisfied by a conventional step-index core fiber (SICF) but by the ring-doped core fiber (RDCF). Because the lasing threshold is inversely proportional to the OVF, the LCVM can predominantly be stimulated even without going through special procedures to impose extra loss mechanisms to the fundamental mode. We numerically verify that the OVF of the LCVM with the doped ions can significantly exceed that of the fundamental mode if the proposed fiber design is applied. In addition, an RDCF of the proposed fiber design can also operate in a regime containing no higher-order modes besides the LCVM, so that it can selectively and efficiently generate the LCVM without being disrupted by the parasitic lasing of the higher-order modes. We highlight that an optimized RDCF can lead to a >30 % higher OVF ratio than a SICF having the same doped area. The proposed model is expected to be useful for enhancing the efficiency of generating CVBs in an all-fiber format.

  • A novel ultra-narrow linewidth DFB laser in the extended FBG ring cavity having kHz linewidth is presented. The method of linewidth compression was realized by introducing an extended fiber ring cavity into the cavity between the external FBG and the Bragg grating inside a DFB laser diode. Optimum optical feedback control was achieved by using an optical circulator and a variable optical attenuator to prevent mode hopping induced by spatial hole burning. To prove the validity of the proposed scheme, a self-heterodyne measurement set-up with fiber delay line of 63 km was utilized for the ultra-narrow linewidth measurement. A 3 dB linewidth of less than 3 kHz was demonstrated, which is resolution limited performance. This linewidth is equivalent to 3 dB linewidth of 2$\times$10$^{-8}$ nm.

  • In this paper, we proposed the new wavelength tunable filter for wide tunability of fiber ring laser. The proposed filter consists of the cascaded connection of Fiber Reflection Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and Sagnac filter or of hybrid filter and Fiber Reflection Mach-Zehnder Interferometer. The simulation shows that the continuous tunable range of 50nm can be obtained and that more stable single mode operation of ring laser can be expected due to narrow FWHM. of filter spectrum.

  • A 10 GHz harmonically mode-locked semiconductor-fiber ring laser was implemented using a semiconductor optical amplifier at $1.5\mu\textrm{m}$ The laser pulse has 13~18 ps pulse duration, 0.4~0.6 nm spectral width and was positively chirped. The output pulse with an average power of 4 dBm was compressed to 6.8 ps using 2 km long standard single mode optical fiber.

  • Wavelength tunable fiber ring laser can be tuned by causing a resonance on the optical path having the least loss which is controlled by a polarization adjustment. It is observed that lasing wavelengths having 1 nm FSR(Free Spectral Range) can be tuned over the range of 1540~1560 nm when a polarization controller and an intra-cavity polarizer are adjusted. The tuning mechanism can be expected by analyzing the characteristics of the laser output using an optical path model and the concept of a birefringence loss. It is found that the constructive interference between longitudinal modes of different optical paths may cause wavelength tuning in the fiber ring laser.

  • We experimentally demonstrated a novel wavelength-swept laser using a cascaded Raman gain around 1310 nm. A 1064/1310 wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) coupler and coupled fiber Bragg gratings mirrors at 1064, 1117, 1175, 1240 nm are effectively used to increase the power efficiency in a laser ring cavity with highly non-linear fiber (HNLF) of 2 km. Linear wavelength sweeping is demonstrated with the 100 Hz triangular driving signal to fiber Fabry-Perot tunable filter (FFP-TF) around the 1310 nm region. The measured sweeping range and output power were 27 nm and 2.1 mW, respectively, which are suitable for optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging.

  • 20 GHz and 40 GHz micro/millimeter-wave photonic pulse trains have been generated from a fiber ring laser with a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) by injecting 2 GHz gain-switched Fabry-Perot laser diode (GS-FPLD) output. To achieve efficient cross-gain modulation in the SOA at 20 GHz and 40 GHz, individual lasing modes of the 2 GHz GS-FPLD output separated to 25 and 50 picoseconds respectively by passing dispersion compensating fibers.
