  • In this paper, in order to achieve slim and light liquid crystal display, we examine the optical conditions that can obtain uniform light with higher optical efficiency over whole light guide plate (LGP) through simulation. Furthermore, to overcome the issues of hot spot in front of red, green, and blue light emitting diodes (RGB LEDs) source and non-uniform color mixing, we propose four shaped color mixing bars tied up with the LGP and check the optical characteristics of the LGP with them by simulation. Consequently, we could know the optical conditions of improving optical efficiency and optical uniformity in the LGP through the optical design. Also we confirmed that the issues of the hot spot and non-uniform color mixing in edge type LED could be solved by using the ${\bigwedge}$-shaped window color mixing bar.

  • In optoelectronic devices including displays and solar cells that convert electricity into light or light into electricity, it is important to control optical behavior of light to improve device efficiency. Specifically, the control of internal emitting light in the OLEDs can induce more light to go out, improving luminous efficiency. In addition, the control of optical behavior of incident light in solar cells can increase optical path in the light absorption layer, increasing power-conversion efficiency. In this study, we generated wrinkles as a physical structure to control optical behavior of light and independently controlled their wavelength and height by changing stress relaxation time. To explore the effect of wavelength and height on optical behavior, we conducted UV/Vis spectroscopy analysis of wrinkles with various heights at a constant wavelength or various wavelengths at a comparable height, figuring out a wrinkle with high aspect ratio has more dispersive light and less straight light. It indicates that high aspect ratio is required to change the optical behavior and increase the optical path.

  • Previous work proposed combining multipulse pulse position modulation (MPPM) with pulse amplitude modulation to form multipulse amplitude and position modulation (MPAPM), which is a hybrid modulation that results in an improvement in bandwidth efficiency but a degradation in power efficiency. In this paper, to achieve greater power efficiency and a better data rate, we propose multipulse dual amplitude-width modulation, based on MPAPM and pulse width modulation. The proposed scheme shows a remarkable improvement in data rate and a 1.5-dB improvement in power efficiency over MPAPM, while sustaining the bandwidth efficiency. After introducing symbol structure, we present the theoretical expressions of spectral efficiency, the power requirements, and the normalized data rate, as well as the results of comparing the proposed modulation to MPPM and MPAPM.

  • Recent years, OLEDs have been progressed intensively and been widely applied to Display and Lighting industry,Almost 100% internal quantum efficiency was achieved by developing new materials and structure optimization. However, external quantum efficiency was still low due to total internal reflection of light inside OLED devices and absorption of light at the surface of metal electrode. In order to improve external quantum efficiency of OLED devices, various kinds of optical functional structures were introduced to inside and outside of OLED devices to increase light extraction efficiency. In this paper, various efforts to apply optical functional structures in OLED devices were reviewed and way to improve light extraction efficency of OLED devices were discussed.

  • Recently many studies being carried out to increase the light efficiency of LED. The external quantum efficiency of LED, generally the light efficiency, is determined by the internal quantum efficiency and the light extraction efficiency. The internal quantum efficiency of LED was already reached to more than 90%, but the light extraction efficiency is still insufficient compared with the internal quantum efficiency because the total internal reflection is generated in the interface between the LED chip and air. Thus, we studied about flip chip LED with PSS and performed the optical simulation which find more optimized PSS for flip chip LED to increase the light extraction efficiency. Decreasing of the total internal reflection and effect of diffused reflection according to PSS improved the light extraction efficiency. To get more higher the efficiency, we simulated flip chip with PSS that the parameters are arrangement, edge spacing, radius, height and shape of PSS.

  • Very efficient 6-ary runlength-limited codes for a six-level optical recording channel are presented when d = 3. The 6-ary(3, 15) code of rate 6/7 is given achieving coding efficiency of 98.87%. The efficiency of rate 13/15, (3, 20) code is 99.95%, which approaches the Shannon capacity. To increase the accurary of reading 6-ary signal, partial response modes are also investigated.

  • Non-destructive measurement of zero-dispersion wavelength variation in a dispersion shifted fiber by four-wave mixing technique is carried out. The oscillatory behavior of the four-wave mixing efficiency is utilized for the measurement of the linear dispersion slope and zero-dispersion wavelength. A simple formula useful for engineering estimation of the characteristics of fiber four-wave mixing efficiency is presented.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid optical/digital version of the associative memory which improve hardware efficiency and increase convergence rates. Multifocus hololens are used as space-varient optical element for performing inner product and summation function. The real-time input and the stored states of memory matrix is formated using LCTV. One method of adaptively changing the weights of stored vectors during each iteration is implemented electronically. A design for a optical implementation scheme is discussed and the proposed architecture is demonstrated the ability of retrieving with computer simmulation.

  • In this study, we have proposed a pre-processing algorithm newly developed for improving the tracking efficiency of the optical flow method. The developed pre-processing algorithm consists of a median filter, binarization, morphology, canny edge, contour detecting and an approximation method. In order to evaluate whether the optical flow tracking capacity increases, this study applied the pre-processing algorithm to the Lucas-Kanade(LK) optical flow algorithm, and comparatively analyzed its images and tracking results with those of optical flow without the pre-processing algorithm and with the existing pre-processing algorithm(composed of median filter and histogram equalization). As a result, it was observed that the tracking performance derived from the LK optical flow algorithm with the pre-processing algorithm, shows better tracking accuracy, compared to the one without the pre-processing algorithm and the one with the existing pre-processing algorithm. It seems to have resulted by successful segmentation for characteristic areas and subdivision into inner and outer contour lines.
