We studied simultaneously the electronically written data affected in the use of thermal transfer discs and the recoding strategy between recoding drives for the stable long term preservation of optical discs which are commonly used in an electronic data storage device. The most important thing in the archiving preservation might be a choice of a device, however the use of thermal transfer recording discs is not good for long term data preservation because the thermal effect on the recoding data is critical which means that the data are recorded not under best condition but under bad condition. We inspect the strategies of recoding data from 12 brands of optical discs and drives of 7 brands and it turns out the recoding strategy is needed first for the long term preservation of electronic recording data. Thus, without affecting data quality and deformation of optical discs, the choice of optimal disc and drive in recoding data will be a solution for the long term preservation of recoding data.
Multimedia has created a system environment that needs a combination of diverse peripherals, faster I/O, and easier configuration. The sheer volume of data one can expect with multimedia hardware and applications storage systems of higher capacity and faster data transfer rate. Unlike the magneto-optical(MO)disk technology which uses bias magnetic field in writing, both the reading and the writing in the phase change (PC) technology are performed only by laser light. In PC optical media, an active layer is reversibly converted between amorphous state and crystalline state by changing irradiation conditions of focused laser beam. Thus, as compared with MO disk, the PC disk has such great advantages that signals can be reproduced by change of reflectance of laser beams in the same manner as the compact disc. The reflectivity of a phase-change spot can be altered in a single pass under the head only through modulation of laser power. The principles and the current status of phase-change optical recording media combined with possible applications are discussed in the present article.

The present state of the design of swing arm actuators for optical disc drives is to obtain the high efficient dynamic characteristics within a very compact volume. As a necessary consequence, the need of the small form factor (SFF) storage device has been arisen as major interests in the information storage technology. In this paper, we suggest the miniaturized swing arm type actuator that has high efficient dynamic characteristics for SFF optical disk drive (ODD). For the operating mechanism, it uses a tracking electromagnetic (EM) circuit for a focusing motion together. Moreover, due to the size constraint, the thermal stability of optical head is important. Therefore, the actuator is designed to emit the heat, which is generated by optical pick-up, along the actuator body easily. Initial model is designed based on the topology optimization method considering the thermal conductivity. Then, the structural parts of the actuator are modified to maintain the high sensitivity and to have wide control bandwidth by the design of experiments method (DOE) and new concept of decreasing mass and inertia. Finally, a swing arm type actuator for SFF ODD is suggested and its dynamic characteristics are verified.

In this paper, we describe the synthesis of robust and non-fragile $H^{\infty}$ state feedback controllers for linear systems with affine parameter uncertain tracking servo system of blu-ray disc drive, as well as static state feedback controller with polytopic uncertainty Similarity any other control system, the objective of the track-following system design for optical disc drives is to construct the system with better performance and robustness against modeling uncertainties and various disturbances. Also, the obtained condition can be rewritten as parameterized linear matrix inequalities(PLMIs), that is, LMIs whose coefficients are functions of a parameter confined to a compact set. We show that the resulting controller guarantees the asymptotic stability and disturbance attenuation of the closed loop system in spite of controller gain variations within a resulted polytopic region.

The implement the adaptive partial response maximum likelihood (PRML) detector with tilt analyzer for asymmetric high-density optical storage system. For the estimation of disc tilt, we exploit spc patterns in each data frame. Because of using the ROM table to renew the coefficients of equalizer and reference values of branches, the complexity of the hardware is reduced. The proposed PRML has been designed and verified by VerilogHDL and synthesized by the Synopsys Design Compiler with Hynix $0.35{\mu}m$ STD cell library. In the result, the total gate count is 35K, and the maximum operating frequency is 140MHz.

Recently, there have been many researches and developments in optical disc drive by high density of track and high access speed. Therefore, the optical pick-up should guarantee highly accurate dynamic characteristics for the wide bandwidth in order to cope with this trend. These demands for optical pick-up actuator can be solved by improvements of lens-holder through the following methods. The first way is the analysis of the sensitivity matrix of design variables for vibration modes after appropriate design parameters are selected like shapes and local dimensions of a lens-holder. The second way is the optimization of design variables by calculating sequential linear programming after the problem of extending bandwidth are converted to problem of minimizing adequate objective function. In the result, modified FE model is obtained through several iterations by finite difference scheme(FDS). While results of the first way show better convergence of the target frequency, the second result shows better reduction of mass increase.
Dynamic characteristics of TbFeCo magneto-optical recording media at 680nm wavelength region were studied by means of computer simulation of disc structure and optimization of process variables during sputter deposition. With the slightly reduced Kerr rotation angle due to the reduced wavelength of optical laser source, the improved recording density in TbFeCo magneto optical media showing the CNR greater than 50dB could be achieved by only adjusting the thickness of dielectric and the recording layers when the wavelength of light source is changed from 780nm to 680nm. In addition, the recording power margin of 5mW and the 2mW minimum recording power was realized, It was shown from the present study that the increase in laser power density demonstrated feasibility of low cost and low power laser diode with the reduced optimum recording power.
A noncontact optical system that can measure displacement or vibration of an object is designed by employing the oblique ray method. By using a single convex lens which serves as both the input and output lenses, we made the optical system very compact and reliable. In addition, the bandwidth of the vibration measurement is more than 100 KHz by using the position-sensitive detector as the beam position sensor. The resolution and capture range of the system are $\pm$1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and 1100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, respectively. As a sample test, the vibrations of a speaker and a rotating compact disc surface were measured.

As the exciting point of each phase is determined by the position of rotor, the rotor's accurate position-information is needed for the Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). When using an absolute-encoder or a resolver, to detect the location of rotor the initial starting is possible, as early sensing of rotor's location is possible. However, this is not appropriate, considering the economical efficiency, and in case of using the incremental-encoder, there's a problem at initial starting as it is not easy to track down the location of rotor at the very beginning. When using Hall-ICs, there's a fault, as it needs a special ring magnet. Considering the initial starting and economical efficiency, the optical sensor technique using a slotted-disk and an opto-interrupter is appropriate, however, this method needs three opto-interrupters and a slotted-disk when using the 6/4 pole SRM. Nevertheless, in this paper, it used only two optical sensors to operate 6/4 pole SRM and made the start up and also forward and reverse operation possible. By excluding the slotted-disc md shortening a optical sensor, it improved the convenience and economical efficiency of the production. Also, as the space for slotted-disc is no more needed, it was able to reduce the size of motor.

In this paper we suggested the moving magnet type actuator for optical disc drive which has high frequency of flexible mode. Generally, moving magnet type actuator has the advantage for increase the frequency of flexible mode. But it has low driving sensitivity due to the weight of its moving part. To overcome this shortcoming, we designed the model with the closed electromagnetic circuit for tracking direction. In addition, we improved the driving sensitivity and frequency of flexible mode by using of DOE (design of experiment) procedure for EM circuit. Consequently, it is verified that final designed model satisfied with the desired specifications.
