The present metering transformer being used for measurement has the characteristics of high reliability and high efficiency. In the future, however, it is thought that the scales of mettering transformer will be larger and the cost of production will increase as the transmission voltage ascends to UHV. And, also, it wilt be not easy to ensure the aseismatic capability. For the purpose of settling these problems, by applying optical sensor technology to electric power systems and by developing optical current transformer and potential transformer, we will realize the saving in energy, reduction of cost prise, improvement in measuring precision.
We prepared a novel electrochemical gas sensor (EG sensor) based on interdigitated electrode (IDE) coated with vinyl ionic liquids (ILs) as electrolyte and Pt-Ru-Mo/MWNT electrocatalysts for occurring redox-active of CNCl gas. The vinyl ILs such as 1-butyl-3-(vinylbenzyl)imidazolium chloride, $[BVBI]^+Cl^-$, and 3-hexyl-1-vinylimidazolium bromide, $[HVI]^+Br^-$, were synthesized by $SN_2$ reaction in order to use electrolyte. The Pt-Ru-Mo/MWNT electrocatalysts were also prepared by one-step radiation-induced reduction of metal ions in the presence of MWNTs as supports. The fabricated EG sensor with vinyl ILs electrolyte was evaluated through optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The prepared EG sensor is clearly detected over 2.0 ppm CNCl gas and is exhibited a liner relationship between current and concentration over a region of 10-100 ppm.
The rising demand for the high efficiency and high covertness in UAV motivates the miniature design of the high performing mission sensors, or payloads. One of the promising payload sensors, EO/IR sensor has evolved satisfying its demands and became the main stand-alone mission sensor for 200kg-range UAV. One aspect in development of EO/IR sensor concerns lack of specification criterions to represent its performance. Even though the high demand and competition among each manufacturer caused EO/IR features subject to rapid change collateral to new technology, the datasheets maintained the conventional outdated formats which leave some of the major components in ambiguity. Making comparisons or predicting actual performance with such datasheets is hardly worthwhile; yet, they could be important reference guide for the potential customers what to expect for the upcoming EO/IR. According to UAS Roadmap 2007-2032 published by DoD, one of the main potential customers as well as a main investor of EO/IR technology, EO/IR is expected to play key roll in solving urgent problems, such as see and avoid system. This paper will examine the recent representative EO/IR specialized in UAS missions through datasheets to find out current trend and eventually extrapolate the possible future trend.
We developed a highly efficient organic photovoltaic (OPV) cell with a poly[4,8-bis(5-(2-ethylhexyl)thiophen-2-yl)benzo[1,2-b;4,5-b']dithiophene-2,6-diyl-alt-(4-(2-ethylhexyl)-3-fluorothieno[3,4-b]thiophene-)-2-carboxylate-2-6-diyl)]:[6,6]-phenyl-C71-butyric acid methyl ester active layer for harvesting lower-intensity indoor light energy to power various self-powered sensor systems that require power in the microwatt range. In order to achieve higher power conversion efficiency (PCE), we first optimized the thickness of the active layer of the OPV cell through optical simulations. Next, we fabricated an OPV cell with optimized active layer thickness. The device exhibited a PCE of 12.23%, open circuit voltage of 0.66 V, short-circuit current density of 97.7 ㎂/cm2, and fill factor of 60.53%. Furthermore, the device showed a maximum power density of 45 ㎼/cm2, which is suitable for powering a low-power (microwatt range) sensor system.
In wave-front-sensor-less adaptive optics (WFS-less AO) systems, the Jacopo Antonello (JA) method belongs to the model-based class and requires few iterations to achieve acceptable distortion correction. However, this method needs a lot of measurements, especially when it deals with moderate or severe aberration, which is undesired in free-space optical communication (FSOC). On the contrary, the stochastic parallel gradient descent (SPGD) algorithm only requires three time measurements in each iteration, and is widely applied in WFS-less AO systems, even though plenty of iterations are necessary. For better and faster compensation, we propose a WFS-less hybrid approach, borrowing from the JA method to compensate for low-order wave front and from the SPGD algorithm to compensate for residual low-order wave front and high-order wave front. The correction results for this proposed method are provided by simulations to show its superior performance, through comparison of both the Strehl ratio and the convergence speed of the WFS-less hybrid approach to those of the JA method and SPGD algorithm.
In this paper we propose a cryogenic sensor system which can measure the temperature at higher resolution at low temperature using temperature-dependent amplified spontaneous emission of erbium-doped fiber pumped by a 1480 nm laser diode. The measurement resolution of the sensor system could be enhanced through the modulation of injection current of the pump laser diode. The measurement resolution considering the fluctuation of the light source in the sensor system was ${\sim}0.4$ K in the room temperature regime and ${\sim}0.07$ K in the liquid nitrogen temperature regime.
Recently, number of studies for porous silicon have been investigated by many researchers. Multistructured porous silicon (PSi), distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) PSi, has been a topic of interest, because of its unique optical properties. DBR PSi were prepared by an electrochemical etch of $P^{{+}{+}}$-type silicon wafer of resistivity between 0.1 $m{\Omega}cm$ with square wave current density, resulting two different refractive indices. In this work, We have fabricated a simple and portable organic vapor-sensing device based on DBR porous silicon and investigated the optical characteristics of DBR porous silicon. DBR porous silicon have been characterized by FT-IR, Ocean optics 2000 spectrometer. The device used DBR PSi chip has been demonstrated as an excellent gas sensor, showing a great senstivity to a toxic vapor (TEP, DMMP, DEEP) at room temperature.
This paper proposes an optical system where the organic compound content in water is determined by using an ultraviolet (UV) LED (280 nm) and photodetector. The results obtained by the proposed prototype LED spectroscopy system, which includes a single photodetector and two parallel sample holders, are calculated by applying partial least square regression; the values are highly correlated with the actual concentrations of potassium hydrogen phthalate solutions, with an adjusted coefficient of determination about 0.996. Moreover, the total organic carbon values derived from the UV-Vis spectrometer of real samples (lake, river and sea water) differed little from those obtained by the LED spectroscopy. We confirm that the fast, sensitive, and compact LED sensor system can be readily configured for real-time monitoring of organic compounds in water.
