Optical simulation of micro-pyramid arrays for the applications in the field of backlight unit of LCD

  • Optical performances of micro-pyramid arrays were simulated by ray tracing technique for the application of backlight unit of LCD. The angular distribution of the luminance and the on-axis luminance gain depended on the apex angle, the refractive index, and the density of micro-pyramids. The on-axis luminance reached a maximum when the apex angle was $90^{\circ}$. It also increased as the density and the refractive index of micro-pyramids increased. The present result showed that highly-efficient optical sheet might become realized by adopting micropyramid array and corresponding development of manufacturing processes.

Simple Spectral Calibration Method and Its Application Using an Index Array for Swept Source Optical Coherence Tomography

  • In this study, we report an effective k-domain linearization method with a pre-calibrated indexed look-up table. The method minimizes k-domain nonlinear characteristics of a swept source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) system by using two arrays, a sample position shift index and an intensity compensation array. Two arrays are generated from an interference pattern acquired by connecting a Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) and an optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) to the system. At real time imaging, the sample position is modified by location movement and intensity compensation with two arrays for linearity of wavenumber. As a result of evaluating point spread functions (PSFs), the signal to noise ratio (SNR) is increased by 9.7 dB. When applied to infrared (IR) sensing card imaging, the SNR is increased by 1.29 dB and the contrast noise ratio (CNR) value is increased by 1.44. The time required for the linearization and intensity compensation is 30 ms for a multi thread method using a central processing unit (CPU) compared to 0.8 ms for compute unified device architecture (CUDA) processing using a graphics processing unit (GPU). We verified that our linearization method is appropriate for applying real time imaging of SS-OCT.

수열합성 법으로 성장된 산화 아연 나노로드의 전구체 농도에 따른 구조적, 광학적 특성 연구 (Study the Effects of Precursor Concentration on ZnO Nanorod Arrays by Hydrothermal Method)

  • 본 연구에서는 metal oxide chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD)을 이용하여 p형 실리콘(100) 기판 위에 30 nm 두께의 산화 아연 완충층을 $500^{\circ}C$ 에서 증착 시킨 후, 그 위에 산화 아연 나노로드를 수열합성법을 이용하여 성장시켰다. 그리고 산화아연 나노로드 성장 시 0.02몰${\sim}$0.5몰의 다양한 농도의 전구체를 사용함으로써 그에 따라 변화되는 산화 아연 나노로드의 배열상태, 구조적, 그리고 광학적 특성 평가를 실시하였다. 특성 평가는 FE-SEM(field emission scanning electron microscopy), XRD(X-ray diffraction), 그리고 PL(photoluminescence) 등의 분석 방법들을 통해 이루어졌다 본 연구를 통하여 전구체의 농도가 증가할수록 나노로드의 직경과 길이가 길어지며 0.3몰의 농도에서 뛰어난 광학 특성이 나타나는 것을 발견할 수 있었다.

Fabrication of Diameter-tunable Well-aligned ZnO Nanorod Arrays via a Sonochemical Route

  • A simple and facile sonochemical route was described for the fabrication of diameter-controlled ZnO nanorod arrays on Si wafers. The diameter of ZnO nanorods was controlled by the concentration of zinc cations and hydroxyl anions in aqueous precursor solution. At high concentration of the precursor solution, thick ZnO nanorod arrays were formed. On the contrary, thin ZnO nanorod arrays were formed at low concentration of the precursor solution. The average diameter of ZnO nanorods varies from 40 to 200 nm. ZnO nanorod arrays with sharp tip were also fabricated by the step-by-step decrease in precursor solution concentration. The crystal structure and optical characteristics of ZnO nanorods were investigated by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Growth mechanism of ZnO nanorod arrays was also proposed.

Microlens Array를 이용한 자동차 커뮤니케이션 램프 설계 방안 연구 (A Study of the Design of Automotive Communication Lamps Using Microlens Arrays)

  • 본 논문에서는 MLA (microlens array)를 이용한 자동차 커뮤니케이션 램프 설계 방안에 대한 연구를 진행하였다. 자율주행기술의 발전으로 보행자와 차량 간의 소통을 위한 커뮤니케이션 램프가 자동차에 필요하게 되었다. 광학계의 크기를 줄이고, 높은 광량을 확보하기 위해 MLA를 사용하여 커뮤니케이션 램프 광학계를 설계하였다. 또한, 기울어진 지면에서 선명한 image를 확보하기 위해 중첩방안을 고려하여 설계를 진행하였다. 이후 중첩 전 MLA 광학계와 성능 비교를 통해 향상된 성능을 확인하였다.

Growth of Silicon Nanowire Arrays Based on Metal-Assisted Etching

  • Single-crystalline silicon nanowire arrays (SiNWAs) using electroless metal-assisted etchings of p-type silicon were successfully fabricated. Ag nanoparticle deposition on silicon wafers in HF solution acted as a localized micro-electrochemical redox reaction process in which both anodic and cathodic process took place simultaneously at the silicon surface to give SiNWAs. The growth effect of SiNWs was investigated by changing of etching times. The morphologies of SiNWAs were obtained by SEM observation. Well-aligned nanowire arrays perpendicular to the surface of the silicon substrate were produced. Optical characteristics of SiNWs were measured by FT-IR spectroscopy and indicated that the surface of SiNWs are terminated with hydrogen. The thicknesses and lengths of SiNWs are typically 150-250 nm and 2 to 5 microns, respectively.

  • A single-layer neural network with 4$\times$4 input neurons and 4 output neurons is optically implemented. Holographic lenslet arrays are used for the e optical interconnection topology, a liquid crystal light valve(LCLV) is used for controlling optical interconection weights. Using a Perceptron learning rule, it classifics input patterns into 4 different categories. It is shown that the performance of the adaptive neural network depends on the learning rate, the correlation of input patterns, and the nonlinear characteristic properties of the liquid crystal light valve.

  • For massicely parallel optical interconnections, we propose three types of planar optical configurations for crossover photonic switching netweek, backboard optical signal distribution, and high speed packet address detection. The planar overalsy allow 2-D pixel arrays located on a wafer scale intergated circuit to be interconnected in a compact and vibrationally robust configuration. By the laser writing technique surface relief of microopical Fresnel lenses and multiplex gratigs used in the planar optics are successfully fabricated.
