Design of a Low Distortion Head-Mounted Display with Freeform Reflective Mirror Based on Two Ellipsoids Structure

  • A new method to design a low distortion, even relative illumination, optical see-through head-mounted display (HMD) with a freeform reflective mirror (FFRM) based on the two similar ellipsoids structure is proposed. The HMD we have realized has a simple structure which consists of two similar ellipsoid surfaces, an FFRM, a 7-piece co-axis relay lens, and an OLED. This structure can be applied to offset distortion, reach even relative illumination, and correct the off-axis aberrations. The HMD we finally have realized has a near 3% low distortion, a higher than 80% relative illumination, and a 40°×30° field of view (FOV).

  • 본 논문에서는 Head Mounted Display(HMD)용 광학계의 기하학적인 특징과 회절광학소자를 이용한 HMD용 광학계 설계의 개념에 대해 논의하였다. 사용자가 영상을 볼 때 편안함을 갖도록 HMD용 광학계는 경량화, 소형화 및 고해상도를 만족해야 한다. 이러한 요구조건들을 만족시키기 위해 본 논문에서는 회절광학소자와 양면 비구면화를 적용하여 색수차와 단색수차를 보정하였다. 또한 인간의 눈을 모델링하여 일반화한 모형안을 HMD용 광학계의 설계 및 성능평가에 적용하였다.

  • 수차를 포함하고 apodized된 광학계의 출사동에서의 파면의 형태로부터 광선의 진행방향을 결정하고 이들의 평균 교차 위치를 결정하였다. 이 위치는 비교적 간단한 계산으로 구할 수 있으며 수차가 약 2.lambda.보다 클 때는 Safa의 회절초점보다 최대 강도점에 근접하였다.

  • We analyzed electrostatic lens with axi-symmetic configurations using the analytic equation for a single apertured lens. The developed computer code afforded to estimate ion optical properties such as ion trajectories, aberrations and ion beam diameters, and was found to have advantages of a shorter calculation time. The calculated ion optical properties for several types of electrostatic lens were in good agreement with Burghard's ones and it was seem that 20% reduction of ion beam diameter could be obtained by the change of aperture diameters.

  • 인체안의 단색수차는 시력의 한계를 규정하고 또한 안광학 기기의 설계에 있어서 중요한 요소이기 때문에 오래 전부터 많은 관심을 갖게 되었다. 또한 단색수차를 정밀하게 측정함으로써 가장 이상적인 시력 교정 방법을 찾을 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 그림 1과 같은 Shack-Hartmann (SH) 파면분석기를 구성하였다. 이 파면분석기는 대물렌즈, 결상렌즈, 미소렌즈배열(microlens array, MLA), 그리고 이미지 센서(CCD)로 구성되어 있다. (중략)

Lens Design of Camera through Optimization of the Third Order Seidel Aberration and Statistical Tolerance Analysis

  • There has been much advancement in the field of aerial cameras for geographical features with the help of drones, image processing power and computer aided optical programs. In this study, we propose a new optical lens design technique which minimizes the amount of ‘the third order Seidel aberration’ for enhancing MTF. In addition, we suggest a new optical lens design which stabilizes the mass-production yield through R.S.M and has robustness secure through the Taguchi method. Eventually, the image processing algorithm of stereo matching is implemented in order to evaluate whether the proposed lens design result meets adequate specifications for the use of dual aerial photographs or not. This paper provides good guidance for the optical design by development of experiments.

적외선 및 가시광선 결상용 3반사망원경계의 설계 (Optical design of three-mirror telescope system for infra-red and visible imaging)

  • 적외선, 가시광선 겸용의 3반사망원경계를 설계하기 위하여 형상설계법 및 3차수차의 보정방법이 연구되었다. 적외선용의 광학계는 3반사경계만으로 구성되었으며 원추곡면화를 통하여 구면수차, 코마, 비점수차를 보정하였다. 가시광선용의 광학계는 적외선용의 3반사경계의 상면앞에 보정렌즈를 추가하여 상면만곡을 보정하였다. 설계된 3반사망원경계는 파장 10.mu.m에서는 시계 2.4.deg. 내에서 회절한계의 결상성능을 가지고 있다. 가싣광선대역의 단파장에 대한 rms spot size는 3.deg. 시계내에서 25.mu.m이하이며, CCD의 사용에 적합하도록 flat field 조건을 만족하고 있다.

Robert H. Koch's Work on Lightweight Medium-Aperture Mirrors

  • After a visit by Peter Waddell from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK in 1991, Robert H. Koch launched a program at the University of Pennsylvania to build lightweight pneumatic membrane mirrors, initially for balloon flight observations where weight is at a premium. Mirror cells were fabricated from sizes 0.18 m to 1.77 m, and experiments conducted to characterize the mirror figure and stability. Most of the work stopped after Prof. Koch's retirement in 1996 until 2006 when the authors expressed an interest in building an array of medium-aperture portable telescopes. The program restarted in earnest at Gravic, Inc. in Malvern, PA in 2008 with Koch using his extensive observational astronomy experience to guide the fabrication of a fully operational 1.07 m membrane mirror telescope with an optical tube assembly weighing under 45 Kg. Residual wavefront aberrations remediation resulted in Koch and the authors investigating membrane tensioning techniques with different cell designs, active secondary wavefront correction, photometric algorithms for aberrated images, and the use of additional lightweight mirror substrates from the Alt-Az Initiative Group, such as foamed glass. The best result for the lightweight mirrors was a point spread function spot size of several arc seconds. A lightweight 1.6 m cast aluminum cell alt-az telescope was subsequently designed by Koch and the authors for prime focus use.

Optics of the light-weight and foldable telescope based on the Fresnel lens

  • We analyze an optical system of a telescope based on Fresnel type objective lens as suggested by Hyde (1999). The Fresnel objective lens can be thin, light-weight and foldable, and therefore it is possible to develop a space telescope with an aperture larger than that of traditional telescopes. Moreover a lens, whatever it is either Fresnel type or conventional, allows much larger fabrication tolerances. We design a medium-sized telescope adopting Fresnel lens as an objective lens for use in space and possibly on the ground. The well-known chromatic aberration of the Fresnel primary lens is corrected by a field lens and another Fresnel lens using Schupmann method. An additional lens is used for forming images. We analyze the chromatic and off-axis aberrations of the proposed system analytically and suggest methods for the minimization of off-axis aberrations and for the operation in wider spectral range. We also conduct ray tracing and optimize the whole optical system with commercial software. Finally we present the design parameters of a telescope with an aperture of 0.5 to 1 meters, enabling diffraction limited operation for a moderate field of view about 10 arc-minutes.

Deep UV 마이크로 리소그라피를 위한 새로운 4-반사경 광학계에 관한 수차해석

  • 축소배율(5$\times$)을 갖고, Seidel 1차 수차중 4개의 비축수차인 코마(coma), 비점수차(astigmatism), 상면만곡(field curvature) 그리고 왜곡수차(distortion)가 제거된 마이크로 리소그라피를 위한 4-구면 반사경 광학계를 해석적으로 구하였다. 이때, $t=d_1+d_2+d_3$<0, (di는 반사거울 $c_i$$c_{i+1}$ 사이의 거리)이고, 축상 수차인 구면수차와 잔류고차수차는 반사거울 $c_3$$c_4$를 비구면화 하므로서 제거하였다. 이렇게 설계된 4-반사경 광학계의 N.A.는 0.4로서 Rayleigh분해능은 0.38 $\mu\textrm{m}$이다.
