A female visited the Dept. of Oriental Ophthamology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology, Dong-eui University with Facial Nerve Palsy in Herpes Zoster Oticus. She had been taking ill with chronic hepatitis B and taking western medicine. We treated a patient with only Oriental Medicine.(the herbal medication and acupuncture etc). Because she was afraid of herbal medicine -induced hepatitis, went through an examination about LFT profile regularly. The symptom of Herpes Zoster Oticus was improved and there was no abnormality in LFT profile. Through this case, we thought that it is possible to treat the other disease of the patient with chronic hepatitis using herbal medication without hepatotoxic hepatitis. But for the safety of patient and doctor in several case, we need to accumulate objective data about the side effect of herbal medications inducing hepatotoxic hepatitis.

Atopic Dermatitis is chronic eczematous dermatosis which is related strongly to a family history of atopic disease and hereditary disposition. Its threshold of itching is low so that severe itching occurs and causes secondary eczema. The purpose of this study was to estimate the efficiency of oriental medical treatment and management on atopic Dermatitis. We studied 2 patients who visited Wonkwang University Kwangju Oriental Hospital Dept. of Dermatol. with atopic dermatitis from April 2004 to February 2005. We treated him with herb-medication, acupuncture, negative therapy, full spectrum visible ray therapy(by carbon arc). We used the ADSI(Atopic Dermatitis Severity Index) to assess the severity of atopic dermatitis. The grade of the severity of atopic dermatitis was lower only by the traditional chinese medical treatments and management. Considering the above result, more study is needed the factors of increasing severity of atopic dermatitis, and the clinical interchange or atopic Dermatitis between oriental medicine and western medicine.

Objectives : This study is designed for trend analysis of oriental medicine treatment for visual impairment. Methods : Research studies related to objectives were gathered through OASIS, KTKP, PUBMED with keywords such as "visual impairment", "myopia", "hyperopia", "presbyopia", "astigmatism" and analyzed. Results : As a result of searching domestic and overseas research on oriental medical treatment for visual impairment, 7 domestic research papers and 11 overseas research papers have been selected. Among those research papers, 15 of those are studies related to childhood or juvenile myopia. Acupuncture, ear acupuncture, herb medicine, periocular massage, eye muscle exercise and habit correction are used as treatment methods for visual impairment. 14 out of 17 research papers which mentioned treatment effect of oriental medicine reported oriental treatment of visual impairment is effective. Conclusions : Various types of oriental medical treatment could be effective in treating visual impairment. Thus, related in-depth research must be proceeded.

목적 : 체계적 문헌고찰을 통하여 지루피부염에 한약복용의 효과와 연구의 질을 평가하기 위함. 방법 : OASIS, NDSL, EMBASE, Pubmed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, CNKI, WANFANG, CiNii, J-STAGE를 이용하여 검색하였다. 검색은 2018년 6월 21일에 시행되었으며 P는 지루성 피부염, I는 한약 복용으로 진행하였다. 두 명의 연구자가 독립적으로 연구를 평가하고 선정하였으며, 의견이 다를 경우 제 3자가 개입하여 다수결로 결정하였다. 결과 : 중복 검색을 제외하고 총 952개의 연구가 검색되었으며 제목과 초록을 검토한 결과 897개의 연구가 제외되었다. 나머지 55개 연구의 전문을 검토한 결과 4개의 RCT연구가 최종 선정되었다. 선정된 연구는 발행연도, 대상, 중재법, 평가방법, 효과, 부작용, RoB를 통해 평가하였다. 한약 복용을 한 치료군에서 대조군에 비해 유의하게 호전을 보였으며 중대한 부작용은 없었다. 결론 : 지루성 피부염에 있어 한약 복용은 효과적이며 안전성이 있는 하나의 치료법이다. 향후 다양하고 체계적인 RCT의 시행이 요구된다.

Miller Fisher syndrome is characterized by ophthalmoplegia, ataxia and areflexia and develops after respiratory tract viral infection. Other events are GI tract infection, vaccination, digitalis intoxication, insect bite and delivery. Diagnosis of Miller Fisher syndrome can be made with clinical history taking, cardinal symptoms and normal findings of CT or MRI. We have experienced a case of Miller Fisher syndrome and treated with herbal medicine, eletro-acupuncture at paralytic external ophthalmic muscles. We enforced electro-acupuncture for 10 minutes daily. We used the PG-306 electro-acupuncture products(Suzuki Iryoki Co. Japan) and applied the low consequence wave of 1-8Hz. In 3 months, all the main symptoms disappered and the patient improved in health. Based on this experience, herbal medicine and eletro-acupuncture can be applied to the Miller Fisher syndrome.

Objective : This study reports the effect of Korean medicine on one case diagnosed as idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia. Methods : We experienced one case with idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine and gargling. Associated symtoms had been estimated with change of VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), severity of dysphagia, and diet type. Result : After the treatment, symptoms were decreased and almost disappered. In this case, VAS and severity of dysphagia decreased from 10 to 1 and from severe to subsided, and diet type changed from unable to DD4(Dysphagic Diet 4) during 21 days. Conclusion : This study suggests that Korean medicine is effective on idiopathic glossopharyngeal neuralgia.

Objective : This Study was conducted in order to develop the Learning Satisfaction (LS)and Learning Flow Scale(LFS) for Korean Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology and to investigate the reliability and validity. Methods : LF and LFS were administered to 44 students and 20 resident physicians . We examined the test-retest reliability, internal consistency and perfomed factor analysis. Result : 1. Test-retest reliability were reliable on LS and LFS for Korean Medical Ophathalmology & Otolaryngology.2. Test-retest reliability were unreliable comparatively on LS and LFS for Korean Medical Dermatology.3. internal consistency were all reliable in LS and LFS Korean Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology.4. factor analysis were reliable only LS of Korean Medical Dermatology. Conclusions : LS and LFS has reliability to measure learning satisfaction and learning flow of Korean Medical students. But there is no evidence about validity of LS and LFS for Korean Medical Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology & Dermatology.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the efficacy of using oriental medical treatment with acute labyrinthitis diagnosed patient.Methods : We experienced one case of acute labyrinthitis diagnosed patient treated with oriental medical treatment. To evaluate the results of this treatment, we measured the hearing recovery, decrease of tinnitus and vertigo. Decrease of tinnitus and vertigo was assessed by THI and Visual Analogue Scale(VAS).Results : VAS of tinnitus decreased from 1.5 to 0.2, and vertigo decreased from 2 to 0. THI decreased from 41 to 25.Conclusions : This study suggests that using oriental medical treatment is effective on Acute labyrinthitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of oriental medical treatment on a sinusitis patient Methods : We treated a 56-years old man patient with sinusitis. His symptoms are Ozena, Postnasal drip, Cough, sputum, nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea and Headache. The patient was treated with herb-med(Kami-Hyunggyeyungyotang,加味荊芥連翹湯), acupuncture, aroma oil therapy. During about a month, the patient was treated only with oriental medical treatment and without any of western medicine including antibiotics. We confirmed the progress of treatment with subjective symptoms, physical examination and radiographic inspection(PNS image). Results & Conclusions : After one month, Combined application of the oriental treatment including Kami-Hyunggyeyungyotang showed remarkable effects on subjective symptoms, physical examination and radiographic inspection(PNS image). This study show that Kami-Hyunggyeyungyotang effects on sinusitis.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Soshiho-tang on the patients who suffered from atopic dermatitis with gastrointestinal disorders.Methods : We diagnosed the symptoms and the signs of the patients who suffered from atopic dermatitis with gastrointestinal disorders as Soshiho-tang syndrome(嘔而發熱) according to 'Treatise on Cold Damage Disease(傷寒論)'. Patients are treated only with Soshiho-tang. The severity of Atopic dermatitis was evaluated by SCORAD index, visual analogue scale(VAS) and pictures. Gastrointestinal disorders(mainly food allergy, indigestion) were evaluated by patients' subjective complaint.Results : After the treatment, not only the severity of atopic dermatitis but gastrointestinal disorders were also improved.Conclusions : Soshiho-tang has improved the symptoms of Atopic dermatitis with gastrointestinal disorders in this study.
