A single specimen of Synodus fuscus belonging to the genus Synodus in family Synodontidae was firstly collected from the coastal waters of Jeju Island, Korea. We newly add this species to the Korean fish fauna and propose its new Korean name, "Mo-rae-kkot-dong-myeol". This species was characterized by having no conspicuous pigmented area on operculum. The dorsal fin base is shorter than 1/2 of the head length. The morphological measurements and counts of Synodus fuscus were described in detail and a key to species of the genus Synodus from Korea provided in this study.
A human case of Echinostoma cinetorchii infection was found in Seoul Paik Hospital on August, 1987. Large trematode eggs, $98.9{\times}62.7{\mu\textrm{m}}$ in average size, were detected in stool examination. The eggs had a small.sired operculum and abopercular wrinkling. After treatment with praziquantel (single dose of 16.2mg/kg) and purgation with magnesium citrate, an adult fluke was collected. It was 8.0 mm long, equipped with 37 collar spines around head crown, and had only one testis just behind the Mehlis' gland. It was identified as E. cinetorchis Ando et Ozaki, 1923. The patient is an 18-year old man residing in Seoul, and was hospitalized due to nephritis. He had eaten raw meat juice of fresh water fishes such as top minnows (Orygias Satipes) and loaches, or tadpoles, which are considered possible source of this fluke infection. This is the 4th human case of E, cineterchis infection in Korea.
The morphological features of pollen grains collected from the broad-leaved and cylindrical-leaved Portulaca species of the Hawaiian Islands were investigated. The variation in size and surface pattern were examined using scanning electron microscopy and statistical analysis. Pollens of the Portulaca were apolar grains of monads exhibiting apertures, colpi, and relatively thin echini. Of particular interest was the differing size of pollen grains among the species studied. Pollens of the broad-leaved Portulaca were considerable in size with a length of about $73{\sim}86{\mu}m$, while the cylindrical-leaved Portulaca tended to have smaller pollen grains ranging from 50~65 in diameter. The smallest pollens were found in cultivar 2 having an average of $43{\mu}m$. The pollen was intectate, and the exine surface appeared granulous, having sculptured elements of spinules and puncta. Two types of puncta were discerned; one forming an operculum, and the other, a simple perforation. Numerous spinules and small puncta were found throughout the cylindrical-leaved Portulaca. In the present study, morphological features of pollen grains from ten Hawaiian Portulaca species, including endemic and unknown taxa, revealed the aforementioned pattern of variation. This paper aim to provide morphological information that could be of phylogenetic value within the Hawaiian Portulaca.

On September in 1998, a microsporidian infection was recognized in ayu, Plecoglossus altivelis, farmed on Kyongnam province of South Korea. Cumulative mortality was around 10% in 10 days. Infected fish which were piping for air near the surface of the water or in the asphyxic, lethargic condition revealed darkening of body and abdominal distention. Numerous whitish nodules up to 3mm in size were observed throughout most of body organs and tissues including gill, operculum, peritoneal wall and organs. Xenomas were also histologically confirmed in multiple internal organs with the evidences suggesting circulatory disturbance. Based on the morphology of spore and xenoma, and the distribution of xenomas in organs and tissues, this disease was diagnosed to be a microsporidiosis caused by Glugea plecoglossi. The mortality might be deeply related to the local circulatory disturbance by xemonas rather than the mechano-chemical effect of xenomas on adjacent tissues.
The number of maximum 63 Caligus curtus was counted culturing P. olivaceus body surface of 20cm mean body length. respectively. Parasite sites were consist of 63.4% head, 26.9% caudal peduncle, 8.3% operculum and 1.4% the other sites. Also, the sites were secreted in larage quantity of mucus with a very small bleeding. This Caligus parasite was died 15 min to 5ppm and 5min to 10ppm masoten but 28.57% was exterminated to fresh water during the four hours. On the other hand, these Caligus parasites were not exterminated during the 30 min to 200ppm formalin.
For the first time, a single specimen (68.47 mm in total length) of Lumpenopsis pavlenkoi Soldatov, 1916 belonging to the family Stichaeidae was collected from the northernmost area of the eastern coast of Korea (Gosung, Gangwon Province) in April, 2020, using square net (1.0 m width, 0.3 m height, 2.0 mm mesh size). This species is characterized by elongated and compressed body, absence of lateral line and cirri on head, presence of scales on cheek, dorsal fin with only 50 spines, anal fin with 2 spines and 30 soft rays, and separated operculum and isthmus. The body is yellowish with 7 saddles. The new Korean name "Kko-ma-be-do-ra-chi-sog" is proposed for the genus Lumpenopsis, and "Deung-jeom-kko-ma-be-do-ra-chi" is proposed for the species L. pavlenkoi.
The effect of bio-logger tagging location on blood characteristics and bio-logger attachment efficiency in spotted sea bass (mean body weight 2356.7 g) was investigated. The fish were tagged at four different tagging locations: no-tag (control), operculum attachment (OA), dorsal muscle attachment (DA), and cauda peduncle muscle attachment (CA). The blood properties and bio-logger attachment efficiencies were examined on days 1, 7, 14, and 35 after tagging the bio-logger at each tagging location. During the experimental periods, the concentrations of hematocrit and hemoglobin in whole blood, and GOT (glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase), GPT (glutamic pyruvic transaminase), total protein (TP), glucose, total cholesterol, cortisol, and superoxide dismutase in plasma were not affected by the attachment location of the bio-logger, however, the TP concentration was significantly lower in OA than in the control group on day 7. After tagging for 35 days, the efficiencies of bio-logger attachment in the OA, DA, and CA after tagging for 35 days were 33.3%, 100.0%, and 33.3%, respectively. These results indicate that, in our experimental condition, the most appropriate bio-logger attachment location is DA, providing basic information on bio-logger utilization methods for ecological and biological biotelemetry surveys of the spotted sea bass.
As one of the serial studies on the taxonomy of Conthocamptus mirabilis species group in South Korea, C. semicirculus Kikuchi, widely distributed in the southern part of the Far East, and C. coreensis n. sp. from the middle west of South Korea are recorded. Intraspecific variability of some important characters like outer caudal setae and the spinous process of male leg 3 exopod was examined in Korean population of C. semicirculus. Canthocamptus coreensis n. sp. possesses the plesiomorphic characters of the round and narrow hyaline membrane of anal operculum and lacking the sexual reverse transformation in female caudal rami, while it also evolves the apomorphic ones of the modified outer apical setae of male leg 4 exopod and the spinous process of male leg 3 exopod. A key to the five species of the species group known from Korea is prepared.
A mass fecal examination was performed in Seoul, Korea from December 1983 to March 1984 and 15 egg positive cases of Fibricola seoulensis were discovered. They were treated with praziquantel($Distocide{\circledR}$) 20mg/kg single dose and magnesium salt for purgation. The adult worms of F. seoulensis were collected from 6 of them. The number of the flukes ranged 1-78 by the case. The cases had no clinical manifestation at all. They were all Korean males in twenties, and had the histories of eating the roast or raw snakes or frogs. Fibricoliasis is expected to be prevalent among the snake-eaters in Korea. Further cases will be detected by sedulous differentiation of thinshelled immature operculated eggs of 0.08~0.102mmn length. Praziquantel seems to be an excellent chemotherapeutic for fibricoliasis.

We investigated a nematode infection in the epithelial tissue of rockfish Sebastes schlegeli cultured in Cheonsu Bay, western Korea, from May 2013 to April 2014. Nematodes infected the epithelial tissues of various external organs, including the fins, operculum, nares, mouth, and head. Over a 1-year period, the overall nematode infection rate in rockfish was 55% (n=89/163): 56.7% (n=17/30) in May 2013, 88% (n=29/33) in August 2013, 0% (n=0/30) in October 2013, 70% (n=21/30) in January 2014, and 55% (n=22/40) in April 2014. During this study, the only mass mortality of cultured rockfish in Cheonsu Bay was in August 2013, when we identified skin wounds on the rockfish caused by the nematodes escaping from their hosts. During this period, the accumulated mortality for 2 weeks was 1.4-22.4% in different farms. In addition, several pathogenic bacteria (Photobacterium damselae, Vibrio spp., and Streptococcus iniae) were isolated from the moribund rockfish; these were thought to be transmitted through the skin wounds caused by the nematodes.
