  • This paper presents an optimization of permanent magnet (PM) in a brushless dc (BLDC) motor using the response surface methodology (RSM). Size and angle of the PM are optimized to minimize the cogging torque, while reducing the magnitude of harmonic at a dominant frequency and maintaining the operating torque. A fitted RS model is constructed by verifying the high reliability of the total variation and the variation of estimated error. The optimized design is validated by carrying out the reanalysis and comparing to the initial model using the nonlinear transient finite element analysis.

  • This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control algorithm for a synchronous reluctance motor(SynRM) which minimizes the copper and iron losses. ALso, this paper presents a sensorless control scheme of SynRM using artificial neural network(ANN). The proposed algorithm allows the electromagnetic losses in variable speed and torque drives to be reduced while keeping good torque control dynamics. The control performance of ANN is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm

  • This paper represents that an enhanced genetic algorithm (EGA) is applied to optimal design of a squeeze film damper (SFD) to minimize the maximum transmitted load between the bearing and foundation in the operational speed range. A general genetic algorithm (GA) is well known as a useful global optimization technique for complex and nonlinear optimization problems. The EGA consists of the GA to optimize multi-modal functions and the simplex method to search intensively the candidate solutions by the GA for optimal solutions. The performance of the EGA with a benchmark function is compared to them by the IGA (Immune-Genetic Algorithm) and SQP (Sequential Quadratic Programming). The radius, length and radial clearance of the SFD are defined as the design parameters. The objective function is the minimization of a maximum transmitted load of a flexible rotor system with the nonlinear SFDs in the operating speed range. The effectiveness of the EGA for the optimal design of the SFD is discussed from a numerical example.

  • 다구찌가 제안한 파라미터 설계는 제품설계나 공정설계 단계에서 품질특성치의 수행변동(performance variation)을 줄이는데 있다. 파라미터 설계에서 품질평균 근처에서 품질의 변동을 줄일 수 있는 최적조건을 찾는데 있어서 신호대 잡음비(Signal-to-noise ratio; SN비)라는 수행측도(performance measure)를 사용하였다. 그러나 많은 통계학자들은 SN비를 이용한 다구찌 분석 기법을 비판한다. 본 논문에서는 파라미터 설계를 위한 최적조건을 찾는데 있어서 SN비를 사용하지 않는 보다 실질적인 최적방안을 제안한다.

  • The military communication equipment is required the high reliability for operating adequate functions under severe conditions. This reliability is the essential element for the quality of the product, for the uncontrolled factors, such as the clearance, damage of the material, the reduction of stiffness, which are the designer is unable to handle. In this paper, the uncertainty for the design was supposed to the probability model for the military communication equipment, and the average of the objective function was minimized for reducing design uncertainty. The reliability-based design optimization which was implemented the limit state function was formulated into the mathematical model, so the reliable optimized structure was implemented than the base-line design.

  • This paper presents the single objective design optimization of plate-fin heat sink equipped with fan cooling system using Genetic Algorithm. The proper heat sink and fan model are selected based on the previous studies. And the thermal resistance of heat sinks and fan efficiency during operation are calculated according to specific design parameters. The objective function is combination of thermal resistance and fan efficiency which have been taken to measure the performance of the heat sink. And Decision making procedure is suggested considering life time of semiconductor and Fan Operating cost. And also Analytical Model used for optimization is validated by Fluent, Ansys 13.0 and this model give a quite reasonable and reliable design.

  • IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) is widely used in many applications such as an electric vehicle, compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives. In order to maximize the efficiency in such applications, this paper is proposed the optimal control method of the armature current. The controllable electrical loss which consists of the copper loss and the iron loss can be minimized by the optimal control of the armature current. The minimization of loss is possible to realize efficiency optimization control for the proposed IPMSM The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system, the operating characteristics controlled by efficiency optimization control are examined in detail by simulation.

Design Optimization of a High Specific Speed Francis Turbine Using Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm

  • A design optimization system for Francis turbine was developed. The system consists of design program and CFD solver. Flow passage shapes are optimized automatically by using the system with Multi-Objective Genetic Algorithm (MOGA). In this study, the system was applied to a high specific speed Francis turbine (nSP = 250m-kW). The runner profile and the draft tube shape were optimized to decrease hydraulic losses. As the results, it was shown that the turbine efficiency was improved in wide operating range, furthermore, the height of draft tube was reduced with the hydraulic performance kept.

  • Electric vehicle body has to be subjected to uniform load and requires auxiliary equipment such as air pipe and electric wire pipe. Especially, the cross beam supports the weight of passenger and electrical equipments. a lightweight vehicle body is salutary to save operating costs and fuel consumption. Therefore this study is to perform the size and the shape optimization of crossbeam fur electric vehicle using the method of topology optimization to introduce the concept of homogenization based on optimality criteria method which is efficient for the problem having the number of design variables and a few boundary condition. this provides the method to determine the optimum position and shape of circular hole in the cross beam and then can achieve the optimal design to reduce weight.
