  • This study deals with the development and improvement of a particle dispersion model for quick response to water pollutant accidents. The developed model is based on the shear dispersion theory where vertical mixing is done by step by step mixing by vertical and molecular diffusion algorithm. For the quick response to chemical accidents, an algorithm for multi-core modeling for the particle dispersion model is applied. After the application of multi-core operation using OpenMP directives to the model, the relation for the calculation time and particle size were determined along with the number of cores used for parallel programming to determine the model time for chemical accident responses. The results showed the adequate conditions for the modeling of chemical accidents for quick response and to increase the applicability of the model.

  • In this paper, vibration response of aerial gas pipeline due to vehicle loads was quantitatively estimated through experiment and analysis in open cut construction site. The vehicle vibration of various construction machines causes serious effect to the aerial gas pipeline. The new vibration prediction equations presented in this study can estimate the vibration velocity response of the aerial gas pipeline. In the nitration prediction equations, the vehicle′s weight and traveling velocity, which are the sources of vibration, are combined into the term called, "scaled weight" Methods to reduce vibration were proposed in case the vibration velocity response of the gas pipeline exceeded the vibration criterion, using the vibration prediction equations presented in this study. One was to limit the vehicle′s traveling velocity and the other to install the isolation equipment. Both methods can be estimated quantitatively.

  • In response surfaces analysis, we often proceed by supposing that, over a limited region of factor space, a polynomial of only first or second degree might adequately approximate the true function. To find the best subset model, all possible quadratic regressions for response surfaces can be very valuable to get optimum solutions under some reasonable experimentations. However, there is a very hard computational burden to get all possible quadratic regressions. In practice, it is sufficient to consider only hierarchical models. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to get all possible hierarchical quadratic regressions for fitting response surfaces.

  • In this paper we develop the characteristic of density on non-uniform plasma in different layer of the semiconductor with optically controlled microwave pulses. The transient response of the microwave pulses in different plasma layer has been evaluated by calculating the variation of the reflection function of dielectric microstrip lines. The lines has used under open-ended termination containing optically induced plasma region, which has illuminated a laser source. The characteristics impedances resulting from the presence of plasma are evaluated by the transmission line model. The analyzes the variation of transient response in a 0.01cm layer near the surface for frequency range from 1GHz to 128GHz. The diffusion length LD is larger than compared to the absorption depth $l/_{\alpha}l$. The variation of characteristic response in plasma layer with microwave pulses which has in deferentially localized has been evaluated analytically.

  • The smart grid is a next-generation power grid to create a new value-added information technology. Power providers and consumers exchange information in real-time bi-directional, and optimize energy efficiency with using the smart grid. This paper describes the concept of demand response of the communication system used in the protocol, implementation of demand response systems with demand response scenarios for power reduction through the air conditioning control.

  • The purpose of this work is to investigate the seismic behavior of St. Titus Church in Heraklion, Crete, Greece as well as the need of its seismic retrofitting. A numerical model of the Church is constructed using shell finite elements and it is then seismically examined using response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. Effects of soil-structure interaction have been also taken into account. The Church without retrofit is expected to exhibit extensive tensile failures and many compressive ones. Aiming to maintain the architectural character of the structure as well as to increase its seismic resistance, a retrofitting procedure involving injection of cement grout in conjunction with reinforced concrete jacketing to the internal side of the masonry walls is proposed. A numerical implementation of the proposed seismic retrofitting is performed and its effect is evaluated by response spectrum and linear time-history analyses. From the results of these analyses, it is shown that compressive failures are eliminated while only few tensile failures of local character take place.

  • Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have emerged as a novel functional material that is being increasingly applied in diverse fields including medical, aeronautical and structural engineering to be used in the active, passive and semi-active structural control devices. This paper is mainly aimed at evaluating the ductility and response modification factor of the steel plate shear wall (SPSW) frames with and without the Ni-Ti shape memory alloys. To this end, different configurations were utilized, in which the walls were used in the first, third, middle, and all stories. The models were numerically analyzed using OpenSees Software. The obtained results indicate that improving the shape memory properties of alloys can greatly enhance the ductility and response modification factor. Furthermore, the model whose first and third stories are equipped with the SMA shear wall was found to be 290% more ductile, with a greater response modification factor compared to the unequipped frame.

  • When sensitive topics such as gambling habits, drug addiction, alcoholism, tax evasion tendencies, induced abortions, drunk driving, past criminal involvement, and homosexuality are the focus of open or direct surveys, it becomes challenging to obtain accurate information due to nonresponse bias and response bias. People often hesitate to provide truthful answers. Warner introduced an ingenious method to address this issue. In this study, a new and unrelated randomized response model is proposed to eliminate misleading responses and nonresponses caused by the stigma associated with the attribute being investigated. The proposed randomized response model allows for the estimation of the population percentage with the sensitive characteristic in an unbiased manner. The characteristics and recommendations of the proposed randomized response model are examined, and numerical examples are provided to support the findings of this study.

  • The purpose of this research was to measurement real Accommodative response amount using both eyes open-view autorefractometer. Compared each Accommodative response amount to distinction of sex, age, kind of ametropia, amount of astigmatism and kind of astigmatism. The subjects were 153 healthy men and women between the age of 20~80 years. Age comparison, 20 years 1.15D, 30 years 1.23D and above 40 years 0.60D. It was no difference between 20 to 30 years old. But, is decrescent remarkably above 40 years old. Ametropia examined by hypermetropia 1.78D, emmetropia 1.51D, low myopia 1.08D, middle myopia 0.72D, high myopia 0.643D. Myopia increased, Accommodative response amount was expose that decrease. Astigmatism examined by non astigmatism 1.13D, low astigmatism 1.12D, middle astigmatism 0.85D, high astigmatism 0.83D. Astigmatism increased, Accommodative response amount was expose that decrease. The sex and astigmatism type difference appeared with the fact that the result is not a difference.

  • This paper investigates the response of frame structures with the consideration of tunnel construction (ground loss) conditions. The response of four-story open frame structure and block-infilled frame structures, which are subjected to tunnelling-induced ground movements, has been investigated in different construction (ground loss) conditions using numerical analysis. The open frame structure has been modelled as an elastic structure, while the block-infilled frame structure has been modelled to have real cracks when the shear and tensile stress exceed the maximum shear and tensile strength. The response of the two different frame structures has been investigated in terms of construction (ground loss) conditions considering the magnitude of deformations and cracks in structures. In addition, the damage levels, which are possibly induced in the structures, has been provided in terms of construction (ground loss) conditions using the state of strain damage estimation criterion (Son and Cording, 2005). The results of this study will provide a background for better understandings for controlling and minimizing building damage on nearby frame structures due to tunnelling-induced ground movements.
