The Demand of Hospital facilities for Rheumatoid Arthritic Patients (류마티스 관절염 환자의 병원후생시설 요구)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the demand of rheumatoid arthritic patients for medical facilities. The survey using open-ended question and interview was used to serve this purpose. Data was collected from 27 inpatients and outpatients of one university hospital in Seoul. The results were as follows ; The hospital facilities they wanted were categorized as space for patients & their family members (15 items), convenient facilities(14 items), facilities for their family members & visitors (4 items) and others (2 items). They mostly needed as following order ; shower room, parking place, supermarket, no charge of TV subscription fee and rest place. Also they especially wanted sports facilities & recreation room.

  • In 2004, a department of engineering education was established at Virginia Tech and Purdue university in the United States. Innovation of engineering education for improving the quality of engineering college education has been progressing. Content of subject of engineering exploration was developed newly for engineering college freshmen. And, effect of a sustainable energy design project on academic achievement for engineering freshmen at Virginia Tech in 2006 was researched. The project was performed throughout a 6 weeks period with one by 50 minutes lecture by professor and one 90 minutes workshop by TAs (Teaching Assistants) every week. To analyze the data, statistical package SPSS (ver. 15.0) was used. In responses to an open-ended question about freshmen students' perceptions of their improvement in design skills, the 3 most identified skills were teamwork, design process, knowledge. In, Korea, an innovation relating to engineering curriculum, facility, instructional strategy and so on will be required.

An Analysis of Elementary School Students' Understanding for Sighting and Hearing through Drawing (그리기를 통한 초등학생의 시각과 청각 개념에 대한 이해 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the understanding of the sighting and hearing elementary school students have through drawing. For this purpose, we conducted a questionnaire survey of 602 elementary school students. The questionnaire was composed with open-ended question developed by West et al.(2008). This questionnaire was presented only appearance of face. And let them express the sensory pathway by drawing and writing. The students' responses for questionnaire were classified by 5 levels. Inner-researcher consistency was 0.89, inter-researcher consistency was 0.83. The data analyzed were ${\chi}^2$ by using SPSS. The result of this study were as following: First, elementary school students have misconception of sighting and hearing. There were no difference among the grade. In spite of becoming upper grade, students have still misconception. Second, scientific concept that male students have were significantly more than female. Third, the concepts of the anatomically organs are more exposed in real-life situations, students known better. Within these results, it would be used for developing teaching-learning strategies which can use misconceptions students have.

An Investigation of Elementary School Teachers' Epistemological Beliefs about Science on the Bases of Their Strategies for Coping with Critical Incidents (위기 상황에의 대처 전략을 통한 초등교사들의 과학에 대한 인식론적 신념 연구)

  • In this study, we examined the types and the characteristics of elementary school teachers' strategies for coping with critical incidents in science classes. Teachers' epistemological beliefs about science were then investigated on the bases of the types of their coping strategies. The teachers (N=107) in 23 elementary schools were asked to respond to an open-ended question about the critical incidents they had experienced in science classes and how to cope with them. Seven types of coping strategies were identified as follows: avoiding, reinterpretation, adjusting, prevaricating, justifying, exploring, and explaining. Among them, adjusting and justifying were the major strategies. In order to classify teachers' epistemological beliefs about science, their coping strategies were grouped into four categories such as transferring facts, constructing facts, transferring meanings, and constructing meanings. The results indicated that most teachers still possessed traditional epistemological beliefs about science. The potential of critical incidents as a probe for revealing teachers' epistemological beliefs about science is discussed.

Changes in the Image of Nursing in First Year Nursing Students after History & Philosophy of Nursing Courses (간호역사와 철학 교과목 수업 후 간호대 신입생의 간호이미지 변화)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate changes in image of nursing in first year students of nursing after courses on history & philosophy of nursing. Methods: Participants were 100 first year students at a nursing college located in K city. The students were asked to submit a written answer to an open-ended question. Data were collected in March, 2011, before the students started nursing courses, and again in June, 2011, after they had finished one semester of nursing courses. Data were analyzed using Van Kaam's phenomenological method. Results: Before the nursing courses, students regarded nursing as caring for patients comfortably with warmth and kindness, helping patients with self-sacrificing spirit and service, and being tough and overwhelming to do. After finishing one semester of nursing courses, they regarded nursing as a profession that requires motherly care, love and devotion, and as meaningful and beautiful to do. Conclusions: After finishing one semester of nursing courses, the images of nursing held by the students changed from a traditional perspective emphasizing the emotional and negative aspects to one focusing more on the professional and positive aspects. It is essential to establish healthy and positive images of nursing among students through the nursing curriculum.

Effects of Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Instruction Perceived by Both Female and Male High School Students. (남녀 고등학생이 인식안 실천적 문제 중심 가정과 수업의 효과)

  • The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of a practical problem-based instruction(PPBHEI) perceived by female and male high school students. One Group post-test only design was used in this quasiexperimental study. The experimental group of the study was 101(67 male and 34 female) second grade students of a high school in Kyung Kee Area. The Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Instruction had been conducted to the group during the 14th weeks of 1997 spring semester. Post-test including the two parts was conducted at the end of the semester. The instrument of the study was developed and used, based on the previous literature after testing validity and reliability by the researcher. The questionnaire was composed of open-ended question. The data of this study were analyzed by content analysis. The results were as follows: 1)both female and male respondents indicated PPBHEI helped to improve their friendships(93.1%), expression skills(69.3%), their thinking ability(82.1%), and problem soiving skills(76.2%); 2)both female and male respondents indicated that problems of PPBHEI were that a few students didn't like joining the class and classroom space was too small; and 3)half of students(52.3%) perceived the Practical Problem-Based Home Economics Instruction related to student achievement.

The Coping Process of Chief Executive Nurses(CENs) Who Had Experienced Unexpected Dismissal (예기치 않게 직위해임을 당한 간호부서장의 대처경험)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the coping process of chief Executive Nurses(CENs) Who Had Experienced Unexpected Dismissal.The research question was "would you tell me about your experience of sudden dismissal?" Method: The methodology of collecting and analyzing data used in this study followed the ground theory of Strauss and Corbin (1998). Data were collected through in-depth interviews with open-ended questions about the subjects' coping experiences, which were audio-taped and transcribed. The survey was conducted between April and May, 2007. The subjects of this study were 5 CENs. Result: The results of the study are as follows. Core category of This Study was "Battling unsupported against the overwhelming reality." The participants had to face the most unexpected reality of being laid off. Their emotional/psychological response were betrayal, powerlessness, lonesomeness, sorrow, and hopelessness. They felt like a general who is facing overwhelming enemy in a war. The coping process was found to have four stages: shocked stage, resisting stage, negotiating stage and reflecting and transcending stage. Conclusion: The result of this study suggested that ceaseless exertion and cooperation at organizational and individual levels are needed to establish stable status and power of nursing departments and CENs in hospitals.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the focus of key issues - the view, the trouble, supplementary measures and future divection research, and commercialization${\cdot}$ popularization on natural dyeing. Delphi tests were performed with 36 professional in the academic, the industrial, and the art world. Questionnaire of 1round composed of open-ended question related the view, the trouble, supplementary measures and future divection research and commercialization${\cdot}$popularization. And a 5 point Likert Scale was used to evaluate them in 2 and 3 round. Results of this study and the order of importance in the focus of key issues are as following: The trouble are immoral business ability, using of excessive mordant and lack of standardization. Supplementary measures and future divection research are dyer education, choosing stuff on natural dyeing and consumer education${\cdot}$publicity. And commercialization${\cdot}$popularization are the development of brand, the production of specific goods by regional groups, high-grade articles and the certification system in quality.

  • 이 연구의 목적은 사회.문화적 관점에서 한.미 여성의 이상적인 미, 바디이미지, 그리고 외모행동을 비교조사 하는데 있다. Open-Ended Questions에 의한 연구 결과, 이상적인 미로 미국여성이 \"키크고 마른 신체 매력성\"을 추구한 반면, 한국여성은 \"내적인 미\"와 \"서구적인 신체 매력성\"을 추구하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상적인 미를 추구하기 위해 미국여성은 주로 신체의 하체부분, 한국여성은 얼굴부분을 많이 가꾸고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 외모행동으로는 한국여성은 화장이나 피부관리 등에, 미국여성은 excercise나 다이어트 등을 많이 하고 있었다. 사회.문화적 이상적인 미에 비교해 볼 때 두 집단 모두 자신의 외모에 대해 만족하지 못하는 편으로 나타났다. 또한 두 나라 집단의 여성들은 각 나라마다 사회.문화적 이상적인 미가 각각 존재해야 함에도 불구하고 현재에는 이상적 미의 기준이 문화에 관계없이 동일한 편이라고 응답을 하였다. 본 연구에서는 사회.문화적 집단주의와 개인주의 개념을 토대로 이러한 연구결과들이 논의되어 진다.주의 개념을 토대로 이러한 연구결과들이 논의되어 진다.

Model lessons of mathematical practice focus on creativity and character education curriculm (창의.인성교육을 위한 수학 수업 모형 사례)

  • The direction of recent education literature points to the importance of creativity and creative practices, which also plays an important role in character education and has been recognized as being invaluable for the educational goals of the 21st century. As such, the goal of mathematics educators and researchers has also been on emphasizing the importance of building character and promoting creative practices. In this research, we study the pedagogical measures that can be easily implemented in classrooms to foster creative mathematical thinking and practices in students. In particular, the mathematical topic of interest is three-dimensional geometry, and especially polygons, and processes in which mathematical knowledge and creative practices play out in classrooms. For example, we explore how these creative lessons can be organized as the target internalization lessons, concepts definition lessons, regularity and relationship lessons, question posing lessons, and narrative story lessons. All of these lessons share three commonalities: 1) they require specific planning and execution challenges in order to achieve creative tasks, 2) they take advantage of open-ended problems, and 3) they are activity-oriented. Through this study, we hope to further our understanding on successful creative mathematical educational practices in the field of mathematics education, and help establish model lessons and materials for teachers and educators to use towards such goals.
