This study is an analysis of endings of films and open endings. Particularly, the key of this study is the investigation of the definition and interpretation of open endings. For this purpose, the 'ending' was defined first, and subsequently, endings were divided into 'closed' and 'open' endings with a goal pursuit model of David Howard and Robert McKee. Thus, it was found in this study that the thoughts of an audience as well as the intention of a creator are crucial in defining an ending. Although a story is designed by a creator, its interpretation is at the disposal of an audience in the end, and the audience may take an ending differently depending on their value system or interest in the story, which eventually leads to their own definition of the ending. For sure, a traditional fact is that most of films including those mentioned to have open endings have closed endings, and such a structure of stories will not change significantly in the future. However, the ending of a film designed to have a closed ending may be changed to be open ended depending on the intention of a creator or the thoughts of an audience, and furthermore, the intention of an open ending may not be readily accepted by an audience.

Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi(忠烈小五義), whose author was Shiyukun(石玉昆), is a Xia-Yi-Gong-An(俠義公案) novel in the late Qing Dynasty. This work published in 1890 when Emperor Guangxu(光緖) governed China. This work's author is Shiyukun, distribution books has an amender. The amender will be a shuoshuyiren (說書藝人). Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi is Zhong-lie-xia-yi-zhuan(忠烈俠義傳)'s a sequel, the story leads from Zhong-lie-xia-yi-zhuan. It is just the beginning of Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi is redundant. Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi was introduced to the late Chosun(朝鮮) Dynasty. This work was translated in Hangeul, Chosun's readers read Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi. This work's circulation is not clear, But this work's exciting story is interested in the readers. This work is characterized as follows: First of all, Zhong-lie-xia-yi-zhuan's charaters appear equally, the readers feels familiar. The readers like the familiar characters, because the readers read the book. The familiar characters can have a sense of speed in reading. Second, the story is continuous. Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi is narrated by connecting Zhong-lie-xia-yi-zhuan's story. Third, Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi was seeking an open ending. Classical novels prefer happy ending, this work is open ending, the expectations for the sequel became more doubled. The fourth, this work took advantage of the colloquial expressions. Zhong-lie-xiao-wu-yi is Huabenti(話本體) novel, took advantage of the spoken language. Suyu(俗語) and xiehouyu(歇後語) was represented in this work. Fifth, this work is formed a universal consensus. Ordinary people must empathize about xia-yi(俠義) and retribution, this work was well represented. Because the readers would have liked to this story.

This paper considers a problem of optimizing torch paths to cut stock plates nested with open contours. For each contour, one of the two ending points is to be selected as a starting point of cutting with the other being the exit point. A torch path is composed of a single depot and a series of starting and ending points of contours to be cut. The torch path optimization problem is shown to be formulated as an extended version of the standard travelling salesman problem. To solve the problem, a hybrid genetic algorithm with the local search of torch paths is proposed. The genetic algorithm is tested for hypothetical problems whose optimal solutions are known in advance due to the special structure of them. The computational results show that the algorithm generates very near optimal solutions for most cases of the test problems, which verifies the validity of the algorithms.

Floating-type automatic turnout was developed for the purpose of reducing labor cost and labor-working hours related to turnout management. The point of automation is to use a flexible-float within the turnout. The weight of float is changed by emptying and filling with water at the beginning and ending of irrigation. The turnout is controlled to open and close small bole on the float bottom using electromagnets. With the weight control of float. the gate of turnout is opened by the empty float to begin irrigatiom and is closed by the filled float to stop irrigation. The turnout was designed to be operated by the main computer and to minimize electric power consumption by sending an electric current at the beginning and ending of irrigation. The functional experiment was succesfully carried out and the rating curves for both free overflow condition and submerged flow condition were derived.

Jehovah`s Witnesses who require cardiac operations represent a challenge to surgeon because of the patients` refusal to accept blood transfusion, We report a 6 year period, ending May, 1991 with a consecutive series of 25 Jehovah`s witnesses. Patients ranged in age from 11 months to 61 years. All operations were performed during cardiopulmonary bypass with bloodless priming, No patient received any blood or blood products during hospitalization. Perioperative mortality was 2 paients[8%]. We conclude that if we performed the cardiac surgery with careful operative technique and various blood conserving procedures, we can do the bloodless open heart surgery with relatively safety.

이 연구는 코엔 형제 영화의 열린 결말이 작품의 주제와 어떻게 연관되는지, 그리고 그러한 열린 방식으로 내러티브를 종결시킬 수 있게 하는 서사 논리가 무엇인지 논의한다. <바톤 핑크>(1991), <노인을 위한 나라는 없다>(2007), <시리어스 맨>(2009) 등 코엔 형제의 열린 결말 영화들은 모두 '불확실성'에 관한 영화이다. 이 불확실성은 부조리하고 아이러니컬한 세상의 불가해성과 그것에 대한 캐릭터의 이해 불능으로 나타난다. 코엔 형제의 영화들은 바로 이러한 세계의 불가해성에 대한 논증의 내러티브이며, 이들의 열린 결말은 플롯과 논증의 중층 구조에서 스토리 문제의 해결이 아니라 논증의 완결을 추구한 결과이다.

This research analyzes the characteristics of Chinese tragic films with Chinese traditional ethical ideology as the core, analyzes its specific performance in the plot and ending setting of the film , and analyzes the director's tragic narrative strategy of cultural reconciliation in the face of political environment to understand the characteristics of Chinese contemporary tragic films.The film is a Chinese contemporary tragic film with The Great Cultural Revolution as its historical background. This film is a representative film of Chinese contemporary tragic films. The classic plot has played a certain role in the expression of Chinese traditional ethical ideology such as fatalism and optimistic attitude to life. The male lead's thought changes interpret the Chinese-style tragedy characteristics containing Chinese traditional ethical ideology. In the setting of the ending, the film broke through the "happy ending" model of Chinese traditional tragedies, and chose the open ending of "one tragedy to the end", further showing the time feature of Chinese contemporary tragic film. The euphemism and tenderness of the film as a tragic film is not only due to the compromise with the political culture of power, but also the result of the director's in-depth understanding of the aesthetics of Chinese tragedy. Through the use of symbolic signs in the film language, it has formed the implicit characteristics of the film narrative in the tragic aesthetic experience. In this paper, the author conducts text analysis for the film and discusses presentation of Director Yimou Zhang's tragic feelings and using the tragic narrative strategy of cultural reconciliation to show his creative wisdom in pursuing artistic breakthroughs under political pressure.

This paper explores the ways to reshape humanistic values of the curriculum of the English department of Korean universities. The English curricula are usually composed of three fields of literary studies, general education, and English proficiency, whose conventional humanistic values have been currently dwindling. As for literary studies, teaching literature still hovers over the canonical works of past decades, not allowing students to access the canon with their own ideas and ending up with authoritative monologues. The general education field leans toward edited texts rather than authentic ones, which ignores a genuine path of communication between the author and its readers. Subjects for English proficiency such as "TOEIC" tend to be taught online with no teacher's presence for the nominal purpose of optimizing economic efficiency in teaching. All these testify to the attenuation of humanistic values in the curriculum, which motivates us to suggest some ways to reshape the values. Authoritative monologue in teaching literature can be shifted to the open-ended conversation by using role-play methods as well as accepting extra-canonical works into the curriculum. Authentic texts for general education prove to be preferred by students with the successful result of our experiment. Lastly, it is teacher's presence in the class that helps get higher achievement of "TOEIC" than some online classes. As suggested above, open-ended conversation, wider communication between author and readers, and human presence of the class will help reshape humanistic values in the English curriculum.

This study aims to take a look at the esthetics of communication in Bastien $Viv{\grave{e}}s$. Bastien $Viv{\grave{e}}s$ is the famous author of the graphic novel in France. Then this paper studies both of expressive properties and narrative strategy in Bastien $Viv{\grave{e}}s$ "Elle(s)", "Les $go{\hat{u}}t$ du chlore" and "Dans mes yeux" that have been recognized the series 'story of young love'. His characteristic style is the detail and delicate description of emotions in the visual expression and the narrative. His story is mainly about the love of the young(adolescent) and the communication of man and woman. Through these three books, he wants to describe how important the communication is to man and woman who are falling in love. He gives a talk about the pain of first love(and puppy love) with the simple structure like the freinds' casual activities. And with open-ending, he leaves something to the imagination for readers. This strategy evoke a feeling of first love in the readers. At these last scenes, a bond of sympathy is developing between readers. Finally, we have failed to communicate with her in first love.

The dissipation of high-power ultrasonic energy at the faces of the defect causes an increase in temperature. It is resulted from localized selective heating in the vicinity of cracks because of the friction effect. In this paper the measurement of size and direction of crack using UET(Ultrasound Excitation Thermography) is described. The ultrasonic pulse energy is injected into the sample in one side. The hot spot, which is a small area around the crack tip and heated up highly, is observed. The hot spot, which is estimated as the starting point of the crack, is seen in the nearest position from the ultrasonic excitation point. Another ultrasonic pulse energy is injected into the sample in the opposite side. The hot spot, the ending point of the crack, is seen in the closest distance from the injection point also. From the calculation of the coordinates of both the first hot spot and the second hot spot observed, the size and slope of the crack is estimated. In the experiment of STS fatigue crack specimen(thickness 14mm), the size and the direction of the crack was measured.
