This study searched secondary school students' epistemological views and ontological views about nature and the root causes of such their views. The subjects were 156 secondary school students and data were gathered by the questionnaire developed based on preceding researches. As a result, many secondary school students had epistemological views of unknowable nature. There were various root causes of their epistemological views such as regularity and harmony of nature, predictable and circular natural phenomenon, causation, the relation between human and nature. On the other hand, a lot of secondary school students had ontological view of supernatural nature. Their religious beliefs were very powerful influence their supernatural ontological views. The nature is the object of science and the physical world. Because those views supply science educators basic backgrounds how leaners understand science class, secondary school students' epistemological views and ontological views are precious information. From now on, it is necessary to study relations between students' epistemological views and ontological views and their science class processes.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the features of the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th Century based on the ontology as a metalanguage. In view of the results so for achieved, it is possible to say that the thought of becoming, topology, rhizome thought and the Deleuze's concepts of the fold and the event as ever-changing and evolving at any given time are found in the avant-garde architecture, and the introduction of ontological thought into architectural design encourage hopes for a more natural and existential quality in architecture. However, the avant-garde architecture in the end of the 20th century disclosed the limitation in the architectural expression of ontological thought due to the lack of fully understand on ontology. In conclusion, the ontological approach in architecture offers a new morphological methodology and a new way of programming considering the existential aspect of space through the bricoleur's means leaving the ontological meaning of architecture itself.
The revolution of new media has overthrown the existing social structure and brought about the changes in the concepts of the space and subject. These changes are identical to the existential issue of the space and subject and to fundamental issue of spatial design. This study will interpret the new media in view of ontology and analyze the characteristics by applying it to spatial design. In this study, the characteristics of new media of ontological viewpoint were divided into six categories containing the process space, the space of exterior meaning, the space of the affairs, interactive subject, playful subject and extension of sense, which were the basis for this analysis. The results showed that the expression characteristics of spatial concept of ontology and subject concepts revealed in the areas of architectural surface, the space of art and installation, and architectural design process.
The recently published papers and essays regarding 'tectonic' bring us to rumination of its importance on comprehending modern architectural process. Many architectural theorists may seem to seek the substance of architecture through the discussion of 'tectonic' for the purpose of overcoming the dilemma of representation which can be easily found in modern architectural forms. Their emphasizing on its double-faced aspect as the manner of representation, that is semantic and aesthetic, may imply the significance of philosophical approach especially to the recent architectural phenomena. From this point, it ought to be meaningful to manifest etymological connection between the terms with semantic analysis and interpret the substance and ontological meaning of 'tectonic' referring Martin Heidegger's existential philosophy. Besides the works of Carlo Scarpa, that are known as the art of making, are exampled to prove the way how the ontological meaning of practical act is exposed on an artwork. The idea of 'tectonic' connotes not only technological aspect as construction of form and space, but also ontological aspect as joint or detail, that is the result of logos. The 'tectonic' means etymologically 'joint' having double-meaning structure, technology and aesthetics. It means 'detail' as minimum units of architectural form and as sites where making relationship or connection takes place in the way of ontological apprehension. The 'detail' as the place of innovation and invention implies the culture of an area, and expresses craftsmanship, which modem architecture buries in oblivion. This study aims to deviate from the aesthetical commercialization in which the modern architecture tends to fall, and further, propose the possible way to succeed traditional locality in an epistemological point of view.

This Qualitative study investigated a preservice teacher's developing views of learning with the influence of constructivist epistemology taught in the Math, Science, and Technology Education (MSAT) Master of Education (M. Ed.) preservice teacher education program. The MSAT teacher education program employs constructivist aspects of teacher education and generates applications of constructivism to the practice of teaching, as revealed by faculty interview data. It is important at this point to emphasize that there are significant epistemological and ontological differences between different versions of educational constructivism (i.e., individual, radical, and social constructivism) and that these differences imply different pedagogical practices. For the 16 preservice teachers included in a larger study, the epistemological and ontological characteristics for each teacher's developing views of learning were identified through four in-depth interviews. Data from interviews were used to construct a constructivist profile for each preservice teacher's views of learning (i.e., a profile containing ontological beliefs, epistemological commitments, and pedagogical beliefs). Of the sixteen participants in the larger study, five significantly changed ontological and epistemological beliefs and eleven did not. Profile changes for the five who did change also resulted in changes in their conceptions of science teaching and learning (CSTL). In this article, one of the five teachers case was presented with rich quotes. This case study documents how a preservice teacher transferred his ontological and epistemological beliefs to his pedagogical beliefs and maintained the consistency between his philosophical beliefs and CSTL. It also demonstrated implications that changes in components for an educational constructivist profile have for a preservice teacher's view of himself as teacher. Data indicated the possibility that a constructivist-oriented preservice teacher education program can influence students' conceptions of science teaching and learning by explicitly introducing constructivism as an epistemology rather than as a specific method of instruction. Implications for both instructional practices of teacher education programmes and research are discussed.
A purpose of this study is to study on Rene Descartes's mind-body theory in medical aspect. Though Rene Descartes was not so much a doctor as a philosopher, he had health and medical science at heart. When he came into the world in 1596, he was in poor health. Therefore, he suffered from his bad health. Descartes's ideas absolutely colored Western thought for three hundred years, especially, his mind-body theory, mechanistic life-view, and reductionism had important effect on medical study and science of public health. As a rule, we know that his mind-body theory was applicable to mind-body dualism, and his mind-body dualism was connected with biomedical model of medicine. But by this study, his mind-body theory was not only mind-body dualism but also mind-body monoism. And he asserted mind-body interaction too. In other words, he advocated mind-body dualism in scientific aspect, but he knew mind-body monoism from his experence. He confessed this fact to Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia, he wrote mind-body interaction in $\boxDr$Discours de la methode$\boxUl$, $\boxDr$Meditationes de prima philosophia$\boxUl$, and $\boxDr$Traite des passions de 1'ame$\boxUl$ etc. However, only mind-body dualism of his mind-body theories was written in our medical text book, morever mental realm was excluded from the persuit of learning Descartes advocated a mechanistic world-view and mechanistic life-view, he regarded human body as a machine part. And a paticent corresponds to a troubled machine, a doctor deserves a repairman. But this point of view made holistic understanding of man impossible. Descartes divide the whole into basic building blocks, we named the approach Reductionism. Reductionism led to ontological concept in medical science, bacteriology established 'specific cause-specific disease-specific therapy'. We examined medical influence of Descartes's thought, we need to draw out a philosophic basis of medical science and science of public health by a close study of his records.
The purpose of this study was to investigate students' ontological categories about rocks and the earth's crust and plate tectonics. A total of 169 high school students in the first grade were involved in the study, and in order to extend the boundary and tendency of the research, structuralized questions and coding frame were generated. Additionally, the results from all students were codified in four levels according to coding frame (matter, transformation, proto-process, and process). Followings are the results. First, the ontological categories of students about the concepts of this research were classified dominantly into a matter and transformation within the boundary of 67% of rocks, and 75% of the crust. The propensity of plate tectonics in terms of ontological category were analyzed by being codified into 68% of process category which proved to have relatively process-oriented perspective. Secondly, the inclination to allocate ontological categories of each students in terms of field concepts were confirmed in 16% and 31% per each student that were codified into process categories and matter categories. Most students that were codified into matter category responded to high tendency to view the world as a combination of simple substances. Moreover, the students had ontological faith that speculates only through a state or an incident in terms of concepts that form a structure of knowledge.
Traditional architectural space, which is a historical cultural heritage must be connected mutually as a organic flow of various elements such as the environment of the time, political background and values, rather than approaching with fragmentary point of view. The Silhak Philosophy, the basis of late Chosun society developed equity thoughts on the basis of ideology of humanism, and it asserted the promotion of technology and industry as a measure to realize the pursuit of truth which is practically useful. Thus, we could verify the possibility of convergent interpretation of cultural technology of Hwaseong architectural space through the humanistic viewpoint of pioneer spirit of Silhak Philosophy which regards human as a main agent of desire of life, and the pursuit of truth which is useful for reality, and the realization of ethical value by aesthetic practicalism. Based on this, the ontological meaning and value of Suwon Hwaseong by the viewpoint of convergence of culture and technology have been drawn as the construction of planned new town by the practice of filial duty, the plan of city space based on rational values, the realization of a metropolis where self-sufficient economic activities are possible, the introduction of thorough construction management system, the introduction of advanced culture and its creative application, and the application of scientifical knowledges and cutting-edge technology.
With a view to contributing to the epistemological and methodological debates in Southeast Asian Studies, the aim of this paper is to examine critically the epistemic concepts and approaches in the social sciences and then to seek an epistemic reflexivity and its potential methodological applications to Southeast Asian Studies. Although the field of social sciences has attempted to search for a means of tackling the ontological and epistemological dilemmas in its major paradigms, Southeast Asian Studies still demands a more 'actor-centered' epistemic account of reflexive interaction between actors and social structures. Bearing in mind the need for a more 'actor-centered' epistemic approach, this paper continues to discuss the 'epistemic reflexivity' in the social sciences and its potential applications to Southeast Asian Studies. In this paper, I will consider 'epistemic reflexivity' as an alternative methodological orientation. It emerges as interlinked with the ontological standpoint of what is called 'reflexive approaches' and its application to the detailed 'reflexive methodology' which I am proposing in this paper. In doing so, this paper discusses the autobiographical experiences of the author arising from his ethnographic field research in North Sulawesi, Indonesia and their implication for a reflexive methodology in Southeast Asian Studies. In conclusion, the paper argues that we need a 'more actor-centered' epistemic framework to compensate for the epistemological and methodological dilemmas in the social sciences and the alternative framework will equip Southeast Asian Studies with a reflexive methodology relevant to the life-dynamics of the social world in the process of developing its inquiries, methodological technics, analysis, and validation.
In the display of virtual space, the degree of space virtualization cannot be judged only by the degree of material technology. Based on the non-material relationship, the virtual space that this research focuses on is a conceptual and ontological point of view (based on the conceptual and ontological viewpoints of non-material relations), including practical technical issues. The research on the characteristics of virtual space ontology not only has an impact on the space design of science fiction movies, but also becomes a powerful medium that brings changes to the world. In the future, there will be a large number of cases where fantasy things in science fiction movies are actualized. From this perspective, based on the study of several science fiction movies using virtual reality scenes, this paper puts forward a study on the representation characteristics of virtual space ontology. In addition, the study of the virtual reality is of great significance for verifying the possibility of virtual reality in the application of deep space technology in the future. At the same time, it provides reference value for the development of special effects film field from montage theory-based to Bazin theory-based expression, and contributes to the theoretical system of film space.
