  • In accounting for the so-called copy raising (CR) in English, the movement perspective has assumed that the embedded subject of the CR verb's sentential complement is raised to the matrix subject, leaving behind its pronominal copy. This kind of movement-based analysis raises both empirical and analytical issues, when considering variations in the pronominal copy constraint. This paper investigates the actual uses of the construction, using online-available corpora. Based on this corpus search, we classify two different types of copy raising predicates (genuine and perception), and discuss their grammatical properties in detail. We suggest that the simple copying rule couched upon movement operations is not enough to capture great variations in the uses of the construction, and show that interpretive constraints, e.g., perceptual characterization condition, play an important role in licensing the construction.

  • Hangul character always consists of consonants-vowel-consonants in order. Using this point, this paper proposes an approach to design a model for spotting each letter in Hangul, and then recognize characters based on the spotting results. The network model consist of a set of HMMs. The letter search is carried out by Viterbi algorithm, while character recognition is performed by searching the lattice of letter hypotheses. Experimental results show that, in spite of simple architecture of recognition, the performance is quite high reaching 87.47% for discrete regular characters. In particular the approach shows highly plausible segmentation of letters in characters.

  • The indexing languages and techniques were ~ u ~ e y e d for Korean textual databases, and retrieval effectivenesses of two indexing languages were evaluated in an online searching experiment. It was found that most of the Korean textual databases surveyed employ natural language indexing by either an automatic or a manual method, and that natural language indexing may outperform controlled language indexing if appropriate search strategies are employed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between users' preferences of Personality types and their attitude towards patterns of Web OPAC use mainly focus on their search behaviour and their preferences for the interface. Data res collected through the MBTI test and self-designed online questionnaire. The original MBTI personality types were re-coded into 4 categories of preferences of personality types, that is, E(Extraversion), I(Introversion), S(Sensing), N(iNtuition), T(Thinking)-F(Feeling), and J(Judging)-P(Perception) and then analysed their correlation with patterns of Web OPAC use by Person's correlation coefficient (r) in SPSS Windows Ver. 11.0. It is noteworthy that 9 out of 28 factors of Web OPAC search behaviour and preferences for interfaces show statistically significant correlation with users' MBTI preferences of personality types.

  • The scope and the magnitude of change that are occurring in libraries today are exciting and the new developments in information technology challenging. A change in vision as well as activities and operations is required. Librarians need to make full use of information and multimedia technology to support this greatly expanded teaching venture. During the period of the 1st to 5th conference of Korean Society for Information Management produces 199 articles. The articles composed of 25 sub subjects of the knowledge of the library and information science. Some of the interesting sub-subjects were as follows: Information retrieval, Indexing, Classification, Library management, Information service, Cataloging and Digital library. The professional librarians pointed out the essential curricula of the library and informations science education. These are Introduction to Library Science, Organization of Information Resources, Information Retrieval, Multimedia technology, Information System, Library Management, Networks, Data Base, Indexing & thesaurus, Collection development, User Studies, New Media, Online Search.

  • The purpose of this study presents a model of the integrated online library service with LMS (Learning Management System). The new library service is called 'Library on Blackboard' which was developed and implemented by Murray State University Libraries in Murray, Kentucky, USA. This user-centered service with applied information technology has the potential to enhance the quality of the library performance in university libraries. The introduction of the Learning Management System in South Korea has a potential to enhance the education environment and promote new library services. With the emergence of new information technologies and growing popularity in online classes and distance education programs, the importance and usage of Learning Management Systems in higher education has increased.

  • In this study an information filtering system was implemented and a series of relevance feedback experiments were conducted using the system. For the relevance feedback, the original queries were searched against the database and the results were reviewed by the researchers. Based on users' online relevance judgements a pair of 17 refined queries were generated using two methods called 'co-occurrence exclusion method' and 'lower frequencies exclusion method,' In order to generate them, the original queries, the descriptors and category codes appeared in either relevant or irrelevant document sets were applied as elements. Users' relevance judgments on the search results of the refined queries were compared and analyzed against those of the original queries.

  • In the past days, most of studies about website and Online behavior have been mainly focused on the adoption of website and internet shopping or internet shopping mall. But the model of website revisit behavior has not been made and the leading theory of website usage behavior has not been existed. Lately, many researches on commercial website revisiting behavior are emphasizing the role of intention, attitude, satisfaction in online visiting behavior such as Jarvenpaa et al. [1997, 1999, 2000], Wang et al. [2001], Moon & Kim [2001], Heijden[2003], Sultan et al. [2002], Yoon [2000], Shankar et al. [2002a, 2002b], Mcknight et al. [2002], Chen & Dhillon [2003] and so on. The purpose of this paper is two-folds. The one is to find the affecting factors on the website users' revisit behavior in commercial website and the other is to search more influencing ones on the determinant factors, to analyze research model using in LISREL. The EFA and reliability test was executed by for finding the validity and reliability, covariance matrix analysis was executed for the purpose of testing the 13 hypotheses. The major finding of this paper would be summarized as followed : (1) The roles of satisfaction and attitude to the revisit behavior are very important and both variables have determining effects in commercial website revisit behavior. (2) The determining factors in positively affecting website users' satisfaction are attitude, perceived usefulness, design. (3) The determining factors in positively affecting website users' attitude are perceived usefulness, design, perceived ease of use, and negatively affecting factor was perceived risk in website.
