In evaluating explosion-protection capacity, safety distance is broadly accepted as the distance at which detonation of a given explosive causes acceptable structural damage. Safety distance can be calculated based on structural response under blast loading and damage criteria. For the applicability of the safety distance, the minimum required stand-off distance should be given when the explosive size is assumed. However, because of the nature of structures, structural details and material characteristics differ, which requires sensitivity analysis of the safety distance. This study examines the safety-distance sensitivity from structural and material property variations. For the safety-distance calculation, a blast analysis module based on the Kingery and Bulmash formula, a structural response module based on a Single Degree of Freedom model, and damage criteria based on a support rotation angle were prepared. Sensitivity analysis was conducted for the Reinforced Concrete one-way slab with different thicknesses, reinforcement ratios, reinforcement yield strengths, and concrete compressive strengths. It was shown that slab thickness has the most significant influence on both inertial force and flexure resistance, but the compressive strength of the concrete is not relevant.
This study aims to trace the response of twelve one-way sustainable concrete hollow-core slabs made by reducing cement content and using replacement of coarse aggregate by plastic aggregate. The trial mixes comprise the 25, 50, 75, and 100% replacement of natural coarse aggregate. The compressive strength of the resulting lightweight concrete with full replacement of coarse aggregate by plastic aggregate was 28 MPa. These slabs are considered to have a reduced dead weight due to using lightweight aggregate and due to reducing cross-section through using voids. The samples are tested under two verticals line loads. Several parameters are varied in this study such as; nature of coarse aggregate (natural or recycled), slab line load location, the shape of the core, core diameter, flexural reinforcement ratio, and thickness of the slab. Strain gauges are used in the present study to measure the strain of steel in each slab. The test samples were fourteen one-way reinforced concrete slabs. The slab's dimensions are (1000 mm), (600 mm), (200 mm), (length, width, and thickness). The change in the shape of the core from circular to square and the use of (100 mm) side length led to reducing the weight by about (46%). The cracking and ultimate strength is reduced by about (5%-6%) respectively. With similar values of deflection. The mode of failure will remain flexural. It is recognized that when the thickness of the slab changed from (200 mm to 175 mm) the result shows a reduction in cracking and ultimate strength by about (6% and 7%) respectively.

In this paper, fatigue behavior of concrete slab tracks under railway loads by experimental method is discussed. The addition of steel fibers to concrete mix has been receiving more attention as a way of improving the crack behavior of concrete beams an slabs tacks. This study two objectives: 1) to observe the fatigue behavior of fiber reinforced concrete slab in labor, and 2) to present crack propagation and deflection of fiber reinforced concrete slab track under railway loads in the Waghauser test line. Nine beams, two slabs and one test track were experimentally tested.

To predict the damage of Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures from mass explosion, Pressure-Impulse (P-I) curves representing the relationship between peak pressure and impulse based on damage criteria are essential. There are P-I curves developed by the U.S. DoD without detailed explanation regarding validation. In this study, full scale explosion tests were conducted measuring response of RC slab to modify and validate pre-existing P-I curves. Four same RC slabs were prepared, and placed at different distances, which are fixed to steel frame with concrete base. Scaled distances were selected to show different failure types using P-I curve based on Single Degree Of Freedom (SDOF) model. It was found that SDOF model can be used to evaluate and identify one-way RC slab damage with difference damage criteria.
During their life span, post-tensioned concrete structures may be exposed to thermal loads. Therefore, there has been a growing interest in research on the advanced analysis and design of post-tensioned concrete slabs subjected to thermal loads. This paper investigates the structural behaviour of post-tensioned one-way spanning concrete slabs. A nonlinear finite element model for the analysis of post- tensioned unbonded and bonded concrete slabs at elevated temperatures was developed. The interface between the tendon and surrounding concrete was also modelled, allowing the tendon to retain its profile shape during the deformation of the slab. The load-deflection behaviour, load-force behaviour in the tendon, and the failure modes are presented. The numerical analysis was conducted by the finite element ANSYS software and was carried out on two different one-way concrete slabs chosen from literature. A parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of several selected parameters on the overall behavior of post-tensioned one-way concrete slab. These parameters include the effect of tendon bonding, the effect of thermal loading and the effect of tendon profile. Comparison between uniform thermal loading and nonuniform thermal loading showed that restrained post tensioned slab with bottom surface hotter has smaller failure load capacity.
The Early-age construction loading and changing properties of concrete, especially in the multi-story structures can affect the slab deflection, significantly. Based on previously conducted experiment on eight simply-supported one-way slabs this paper investigates the effect of concrete type, fiber type and content, loading value, cracking moment, ultimate moment and applied moment on the instantaneous deflection of Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) slabs. Two distinct loading levels equal to 30% and 40% of the ultimate capacity of the slab section were applied on the slabs at the age of 14 days. A wide range of the existing models of the effective moment of inertia which are mainly developed for conventional concrete elements, were investigated. Comparison of the experimental deflection values with predictions of the existing models shows considerable differences between the recorded and estimated instantaneous deflection of SCC slabs. Calculated elastic deflection of slabs at the ages of 14 and 28 days were also compared with the experimental deflection of slabs. Based on sensitivity analysis of the effective parameters, a new model is proposed and verified to predict the effective moment of inertia in SCC slabs with and without fiber reinforcing under two different loading levels at the age of 14 days.

This paper presents the flexural capacities of one-way hollow slab with materials. To verify the flexural capacities of this hollow slab, flexural tests were performed on the one-way hollow slabs. The test parameters included two different materials of plastic balls. The material parameters were general plastic and glass fiber plastic.
It is not easy to correctly predict deflections of reinforced concrete beams and one-way slabs due to the variability of parameters involved in the calculation of deflections. Monte Carlo simulation is used to assess the variability of deflections with known statistical data and probability distributions of variables. A deterministic deflection value is obtained using the layered beam model based on the finite element approach in which a finite element is divided into a number of layers over the depth. The model takes into account nonlinear effects such as cracking, creep and shrinkage. Statistical parameters were obtained from the literature. For the assessment of variability of deflections, 12 cases of one-way slabs and T-beams are designed on the basis of ultimate moment capacity. Several results of a probabilistic study are presented to indicate general trends indicated by results and demonstrate the effect of certain design parameters on the variability of deflections. From simulation results, the variability of deflections relies primarily on the ratio of applied moment to cracking moment and the corre-sponding reinforcement ratio.
This study is aimed at providing an efficient analytical model to obtain pressure- impulse diagram of one-way reinforced concrete slabs subjected to different shapes of air blast loading using single degree of freedom method (SDOF). A tri-linear elastic perfectly plastic SDOF model has been used to obtain the pressure-impulse diagram to correlate the blast pressure and the corresponding concrete flexural damage. In order to capture the response history for the slab, a new approximately SDOF method based on the conventional SDOF method is proposed and validated using published test data. The influences of pulse loading shape on the pressure-impulse diagram are studied. Based on the results, a pressure-impulse diagram generation method using SDOF and an analytical equation for the pressure-impulse diagram is proposed to different damage levels and different blast loading shapes.

For the replacement of deteriorated concrete decks or wider-span slab, composite slab could be very attactive due to higher stiffness and strength. Based on the previous research, a modified I-beam composite hollow slab was suggested. In order to investigate the static flexural behavior of the proposed composite slab and to suggest its flexural design method, experiments were performed. Judging from the tests, a composite slab with I-beam having a semi-circle hole showed better structural performance. The effect of web details on the flexural stiffness was negligible. Flexural stiffness, ultimate strength, and ductility of the composite slabs were significantly greater than the RC slab due to composite action. While the failure of the RC slab was punching shear failure, the composite hollow slab showed flexural cracking and failure by yielding of the I-beams and crushing of concrete. Therefore, the current one-way design concept is appropriate for the design of I-beam composite hollow slab.
