Coupled thermo-mechanical analysis of reinforced concrete slab at elevated temperatures from a fire accounting for nonlinear thermal parameters is carried out. The main focus of the paper is put on a one-way continuous reinforced concrete slab exposed to fire from the single (bottom) side as the most typical working condition under fire loading. Although contemporary techniques alongside the fire protection measures are in constant development, in most cases it is not possible to avoid the material deterioration particularly nearby the exposed surface from a fire. Thereby the structural fire resistance of reinforced concrete slabs is mostly influenced by a relative distance between reinforcement and the exposed surface. A parametric study with variable concrete cover ranging from 15 mm to 35 mm is performed. As the first part of a one-way coupled thermo-mechanical analysis, transient nonlinear heat transfer analysis is performed by applying the net heat flux on the exposed surface. The solution of proposed heat analysis is obtained at certain time steps of interest by α-method using the explicit Euler time-integration scheme. Spatial discretization is done by the finite element method using a 1D 2-noded truss element with the temperature nodal values as unknowns. The obtained results in terms of temperature field inside the element are compared with available numerical and experimental results. A high level of agreement can be observed, implying the proposed model capable of describing the temperature field during a fire. Accompanying thermal analysis, mechanical analysis is performed in two ways. Firstly, using the guidelines given in Eurocode 2 - Part 1-2 resulting in the fire resistance rating for the aforementioned concrete cover values. The second way is a fully numerical coupled analysis carried out in general-purpose finite element software DIANA FEA. Both approaches indicate structural fire behavior similar to those observed in large-scale fire tests.

In order to investigate on the behavior of one-way slab with Kaiser. Truss, such as flexural strength, failure mode, and ductile capacity, a total of twenty specimens have been tested and compared with the R.C slab without Kaiser Truss. The major variables are Kaiser Truss intervals(30, 40, 60cm), half slab thickness. Test results showed that support interval of half pc slab can be determined by the flexural strength which causes the concrete crack and there are horizontal cracks between upper concrete and half slab in the connection of the specimen with kaiser truss interval 60cm.

The cracking behavior of prestressed concrete members is important for the rational design of prestressed concrete structures. However, the test data on the cracking behavior of prestressed concrete structures are very limited. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the crack spacing and crack width in transversely post-tensioned decks of concrete box girder bridges under applied loading. For this purpose, large scale test members of concrete box girder segments were fabricated and tested. The crack widths, crack spacings and crack patterns were investigated for various load levels. The crack widths and steel strains were continuously monitored during the loading process. To derive a rational predicton equation for crack width, the bond characteristics of post-tensioned steel and nonprestressed rebar in the PSC members were explored first. This was done by measuring the strains of prestressing steel and nonprestressed rebar in the test members under loading. A simple equation for the prediction of maximum crack width in transversely post-tensioned concrete one-way slabs is proposed by considering bond characteristic of prestressing steel and nonprestressed reinforcement. The comparison of proposed equation with experimental data shows good correlation. The present study indicates that ACI and CEB-FIP code equations exhibit rather large deviation from test data on prestressed concrete members.

It is necessary to analyze on the compressive strength among material properties of concrete for confirming damages of architectures due to large explosion. A non destructive test is known as the representative methods estimating compressive strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity, rebound hardness test are widely used because of their simplicity, convenience. But combined method supplementing two types is applied at now as they are affected by the characteristics of test specimen. In this research to check damages on the members of structure before and after explosion, the characteristics of compressive strength are compared and analyzed through a real explosion test prior to full scale structures. The test results showed that the larger the TNT powder and the shorter the distance, the greater the decrease in strength before and after the explosion and that the largest displacement and moment for the explosive load and the greatest decrease in the strength at the central part. Due to the surface condition and the thickness variation of the concrete specimens, the standard deviation value is the smallest in the combining method of fusion of the ultrasonic method and rebound hardness method. Thus, the combining method can be one of appropriate methods to evaluate the strength in the reinforced concrete structures damaged by the explosion.
Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) bars are sometimes used when corrosion of conventional reinforcing steel bar is of concern. In this study, a total of 36 beams and one-way slabs reinforced using GFRP bars were tested in flexure. Four different GFRP bars of 13 mm diameter were used in the test program. In most test specimens, the GFRP bars were lap spliced at center. All beams and slabs were tested under 4-point loads so that the spliced region be subject to constant moment. Test variables were splice lengths, cover thicknesses, and bar spacings. No stirrups were used in the spliced region so that the tests result in conservative bond strengths. Average bond stresses that develop between GFRP bars and concrete were determined through nonlinear analysis of the cross-sections. An average bond stress prediction equation was derived utilizing two-variable linear regression. A splice length equation based on 5% fractile concept was then developed. As a result of this study, a rational equation with which design splice lengths of the GFRP bars can be determined, was proposed.
This paper presents the shear capacities of biaxial hollow slab with donut type hollow sphere. Recently, various types of slab systems which can reduce self-weight of slabs have been studied for increasing constructions of taller and larger building structures. A biaxial hollow slab system is widely known as one of the effective slab system, which can reduce self-weight of slab. According to previous studies, the hollow slab has low shear strength, compared to solid slab. Also, the shear capacities of biaxial hollow slab are influenced by the shapes and materials of hollow spheres. However, the current code does not provide a clear computation method for the shear strength of hollow slab. To verify the shear capacities of this hollow slab, one-way shear tests were performed. Four test specimens were used for test parameters. One was conventional RC slab and others were hollow slabs. The test parameters included two different shapes and materials of plastic balls. The shape parameters were donut and non-donut forms and the material parameters were general plastic and glass fiber plastic. The results showed that the shear strengths varied depending on hollow shapes and materials used in the slab.

RC flat plate, which has no large flexural stiffness by boundary beams, may be governed by serviceability as well as strength condition. A construction sequence and its impact on distributions of construction loads among slabs tied by shores are decisive factors on immediate and long term performances of flat plate. The over-loading and tensile cracking in early-aged slabs significantly increase the deflection of flat plate system. In this study, for slab deflections, the practical analysis scheme using a linear analysis program is formulated with considering construction sequence and concrete cracking effects. The concept of the effective moment of inertia in calculating deflections of one-way bending member, that is presented in structural design codes, is extended to the finite element analysis of the two-way slab system of flat plates. Effects of over-loads during construction on deflections of flat plate system are analyzed by applying the proposed practical analysis scheme into the critical construction load conditions calculated from the simplified method.

Minimizing the self weight of long-span deck slabs is one of the key factors for the practical and economic design of a composite two-girder bridge. In this paper, the minimum design thickness and rebar details of prestressed concrete deck slabs for composite two-girder bridges with girder span length from 4 m to 12 m are studied based on the safety and serviceability. The bridge deck slab with minimum thickness is designed as a one-way slab considering orthotropic behavior. Then fatigue safety of the deck slab is examined. Serviceability requirements for the deck slab such as deflection and crack width limits are also examined. The result shows that rebars with diameter less than 16 mm is recommended for the improved fatigue behavior, and, for the deck slab with span length longer than 8 m, the deflection limit governs the minimum design thickness. The result also shows that, for the deck slab with span length longer than 4 m, the distribution rebar requirement in the current Korea Highway Bridge Design Code is not sufficient to maintain the structural continuity in bridge axis as expected from the deck slab with span length shorter than 3 m.

Many engineers find the way of improving the old building's structural behavior in the remodeling project which is performed using artificial openings for merging two houses. This test was performed to verify the characteristics of coupling beams according to the shape of the openings. One of test specimen has rectangle shape and the other was made by the circle shaped opening and one has coupling member only as slabs. Additionally, three specimens which have openings have 23% ratio in opening area to total wall area. Consequently, solid type which have no opening area shows shear failure. In the case of CW-RBS which have rectangular shaped opening, cracks are developed in coupling beam significantly. And CW-CS which has circular opening failed in shear showing development of diagonal cracks at wall toes and wall mid-height. It is thought that degradation of the wall strength is under the control of the opening shape and coupling beam-wall connection area.
