  • This study presents recent trends on the on-line monitoring and diagnostic systems for oil-immersed transformers. Specially, our system on Yeo Su thermal power plant is introduced for high sensitivity and accuracy of ours. It is combined with communication networks to provide an on-line remote monitoring system. Several alarm criteria are formulated to enable a superimposed monitoring system to perform decisive action. The reasons for monitoring the condition and maintaining the health of electrical apparatus were discussed. The experience at the fields and the criteria for the judgment are also discussed in detail.

  • This study area has been contaminated by oils. To identify contaminated ranges and to assess the possibility of contamination dispersion, monitoring wells were installed and slug test, field soil permeability test, automatic or manual measurement of groundwater table, and groundwater quality analyses in field and laboratory were performed. In addition, a groundwater modeling program was used to assess the possibility of oil contamination dispersion, based on field data and groundwater quality data. The results showed that concentration of oil contaminants in groundwater have been decreased by dispersion and adsorption.

  • Oil spills are a principal factor of the ocean pollution. The complicated problems involved in detecting oil spills are usually due to varying wind and sea surface condition such as ocean wave and current. The Hebei Spirit accident was happened in the west sea ($36^{\circ}$41'04" N, $126^{\circ}$03'12" E) near about 8 km distant from Tae-An, Korea on December 7, 2007. The aim of this work is to improve the detection and classification performance in order to define a more accurate training set and identifying the feature of oil spill region. This paper deals with an optimization technique for the detection and classification scheme using multi-frequency and multi-polarization SAR and optical image data sets of the oil spilled sea. The used image data are the ENVISAT ASAR WS and Radarsat-1 of C-band and ALOS PALSAR of L-band SAR data and KOMPSAT-2 optical images together with meteorological or oceanographic data. Both the theory and the experimental results obtained are discussed.

운송용 트럭에 대한 엔진오일의 전기·자기적 특성연구 (Study on Electric and Magnetic Characteristics of Engine Oil in Transport Truck)

  • In this paper, we investigate the electric and magnetic properties of the engine oil, and estimate its changing time in transport truck. The four diesel trucks are selected, and the capacitance and inductance are investigated with parallel capacitor and induction coil, respectively. The measured capacitance gradually increases up to 10,000~14,000 km due to the activation of antioxidant, and then decreasing phenomena happen. The inductance decreases and the saturation began in 10,000~14,000 km range. Although the behavior of inductance is different from that of capacitance, but changing points are similar. From those results, we can estimate the changing time of engine oil is around 10,000~14,000 km and the inductance can be used for monitoring of engine oil in transport trucks.

  • The electrical and chemical characteristics in transformer insulations are changed due to thermal stress. In the chemical property, as the Kraft paper ages, the cellulose polymer chains breakdown into shorter lengths with a corresponding decrease in both tensile strength and degree of polymerization(DP). Furthermore, cellulous chains breakdown is accompanied by an increase in the content of various furanic compounds within the dielectric liquid. It is known that furanic components in transformer oil come only from the decomposition of insulating paper rather than from the oil itself. Therefore the analysis of furan products provides a complementary technique to dissolved gas analysis for monitoring transformers when we evaluate the aging of insulating paper by the total concentration of carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide dissolved in oil only. In this paper the accelerated aging process of oil--paper samples have been investigated at a temperature up to $140^{\circ}C$ for 500 hours. The oil-paper insulation samples have been measured at intervals of 100 hours. For analysis we used high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) in accordance with IEC 61198 method.

  • Oil pollution of the ocean is a major environmental problem, especially in its coastal zones. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) flown on satellites, such as ERS-2 and Envisat, has been proved to be a useful tool in oil spill monitoring due to its wide coverage, day and night, and all-weather capability. The total 120 SAR images containing oil spill over the East China Sea were collected and analyzed, ranging in date from July 23, 2002 to November 11, 2005. After preprocessed, SAR images were segmented by adaptive threshold method. The oil spill images were incorporated into GIS after distinguished from look-like phenomena, finally we presented the oil spills distribution map for the East China Sea. The wide-swath and quick-looks SAR imagery for mapping of oil spill distribution over large marine areas were proved to be useful when full resolution data are not available. After the temporal and spatial distribution of the oil spills were analyzed, we found that most of oil spills were distributed along the main ship routes, which means the illegal discharge by ships, and the occurrence of oil spill detected on SAR images acquired during morning and summer is much higher than during evening and winter.

  • This paper describes an empherical equation which is to predict the engine condition of the supersonic aircraft. The equation, which is a function of running time of engine and engine oil, is derived from the trend analysis of JOAP data. Qualitative analysis is carried out to make up for the weak points in the current JOAP system. Also wear debris collected from the abnormal engine is analyzed by EDS to detect the damaged parts of engine.

유출유 모니터링을 위한 해경 항공 영상의 개별정사보정 (Individual Ortho-rectification of Coast Guard Aerial Images for Oil Spill Monitoring)

  • 해양에서는 선박충돌, 침몰 등으로 인하여 기름이 유출되는 사고가 간헐적으로 일어난다. 이러한 사고가 발생하였을 때 신속한 대책 마련을 위해 유출유 현황을 정확히 파악해야 한다. 이를 위해 해양경찰은 고정익비행기 또는 헬기로 대상 지역을 순찰하며 육안이나 영상 촬영을 통해 확인하는데, 유출유로 오염된 면적과 지도 상의 정확한 위치를 파악하는데 어려움이 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 유출유 현황 파악을 위해 해경에서 수집한 항공 영상을 개별적으로 지상기준점 없이 자동으로 직접 지오레퍼런싱(georeferencing)하여 정사보정하는 기술을 개발한다. 먼저, 영상 등 센서 정보를 가시화한 화면에서 지오레퍼런싱에 필요한 메타정보를 문자인식기술을 통해 추출한다. 추출된 정보를 바탕으로 영상의 외부표정요소를 결정한다. 결정된 외부표정요소를 이용해서 영상을 개별적으로 정사보정한다. 이러한 방법으로 통해 생성한 개별정사영상의 정확도는 수십 미터에서 최대 100 m 정도로 평가되었다. 지상기준점을 사용하지 않았고, 위치와 자세 센서의 관측 오차, 카메라 초점거리 등 내부표정요소의 오차를 고려할 때 상당히 양호한 수준이었다. 해양에서 유출유 오염 지역에 대한 현황 파악을 위해 적절한 수준으로 판단된다. 향후 비행 중 촬영 영상에 대한 실시간 전송이 가능해지면, 제안된 개별정사보정 기술을 통해 실시간으로 개별 정사영상을 생성할 수 있게 된다. 이를 기반으로 유출유 오염 현황에 대한 신속한 파악과 대책 수립에 효과적으로 활용할 수 있다.
