측정 데이터 기반 전기-유압 서보 실린더의 미지 변수 추정 (Unknown-Parameter Estimation of Electric-Hydraulic Servo Cylinder Based on Measurements)

  • Electric-hydraulic sever cylinders are used in many offshore applications such as wind energy farms, solar farms and plants. Jack-up barges are often used for these offshore system operations. Jack-up barge control is up/down by hydraulic cylinder position control. Working in harsh environments can lead to changes in internal parameters. This nonlinearity makes precise control difficult. In order to overcome the problems, we proposed a method of unknown-parameter estimation algorithm based on measurements obtained by system. In this paper, we employee Unscented Kalman filter (UKF) to estimate states and unknown-parameter from augmented nonlinear equation. Performance of estimation results is verified in simulation on an environments of Matlab. The estimation results of the state and unknown-parameter show that the estimation error of unknown-parameter is reduced according to decreasing the state estimation error.

Response of triceratops to impact forces: numerical investigations

  • Triceratops is one of the new generations of offshore compliant platforms suitable for ultra-deepwater applications. Apart from environmental loads, the offshore structures are also susceptible to accidental loads. Due to the increase in the risk of collision between ships and offshore platforms, the accurate prediction of structural response under impact loads becomes necessary. This paper presents the numerical investigations of the impact response of the buoyant leg of triceratops usually designed as an orthogonally stiffened cylindrical shell with stringers and ring frames. The impact analysis of buoyant leg with a rectangularly shaped indenter is carried out using ANSYS explicit analysis solver under different impact load cases. The results show that the shell deformation increases with the increase in impact load, and the ring stiffeners hinder the shell damage from spreading in the longitudinal direction. The response of triceratops is then obtained through hydrodynamic response analysis carried out using ANSYS AQWA. From the results, it is observed that the impact load on single buoyant leg causes periodic vibration in the deck in the surge and pitch degrees of freedom. Since the impact response of the structure is highly affected by the geometric and material properties, numerical studies are also carried out by varying the strain rate, and the location of the indenter and the results are discussed.

Simplified Limit Solutions for the Inclined Load Capacity of a Dynamically Installed Pile in Soft Clay

  • Offshore renewable energy resources are attractive alternatives in addressing the nation's clean energy policies because of the high demand for electricity in the coastal region. As a large portion of potential resources is in deep and farther water, economically competitive floating systems have been developed. Despite the advancement of floating technologies, the high capital cost remains a primary barrier to go ahead offshore renewable energy projects. The dynamically installed piles (DIPs) have been considered one of the most economical pile concepts due to their simple installation method, resulting in cost and time-saving. Nevertheless, applications to real fields are limited because of uncertainties and underestimated load capacity. Thus, this study suggests the appropriate analytical approach to estimate the inclined load capacity of the DIPs by using the upper bound plastic limit analysis (PLA) method. The validity of the PLA under several conditions is demonstrated through comparison to the finite element (FE) method. The PLA was performed to understand how flukes, soil profiles, and load inclinations can affect the inclined load capacity and to provide reliable evaluations of the total resistance of the DIPs. The studies show that PLA can be a useful framework for evaluating the inclined load capacity of the DIPs under undrained conditions.

Seismic rehabilitation of substandard RC columns with partially deteriorated concrete using CFRP composites

  • Many existing reinforced concrete (RC) columns in structures tend to become substandard RC ones due to updated standards or environmental changes. These substandard columns may alter the behaviors of the whole structure and therefore are in urgent need of seismic retrofitting. Owing to their superior advantages, carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites are widely used to retrofit RC columns. The applications mainly focus on various substandard RC columns, but few deals with substandard columns with deteriorated concrete, especially damaged by earthquake. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the seismic behaviors of CFRP reinforced partially deteriorated RC columns and to evaluate the effect of CFRP sheets on them. Six flexure-dominant columns were tested under a constant axial load and transverse cyclic displacements. It is found that the seismic behaviors of partially deteriorated columns can be recovered by wrapping CFRP sheets on them. Numerical analysis is then conducted using finite element methods and verified with experimental results. The effects of the axial load ratio, the ratio of the thickness of CFRP sheet to the column diameter, and the slenderness ratio on the seismic behaviors of CFRP reinforced RC columns are evaluated. Finally, a method is proposed to determine the required thickness of CFRP sheet.

대형 부류해양구조물의 파낭중 응답의 저감해석에 관한 연구(제1보) (A Study on the Reduction Analysis of the Response of the Mega-Float Offshore Structure in Regular Wave (1st Report))

  • In the country where the population concentrates in the metropolis with the narrow land, development of the ocean space is necessary. Recently, mega-float offshore structure has been studied as one of the effective utilization of the ocean space. And very large floating structures are now being considered for various applications such as floating airports, offshore cities and so on. This very large structure is relatively flexible compared with real floating structures like large ships. when we estimate dynamic responses of these structures in waves, the elastic deformation is important, because vertical dimension is small compared with horizontal. And it is necessary to examine the effect of ocean wave external force received from the natural environment. In this study, the mat-type large floating structure is made to be analytical model. And the analysis of the dynamic response as it receives regular wave is studied. The finite element method is used in the analysis of structural section of this model. And the analysis is carried out using the boundary element method in the fluid division. The validity of analysis method is verified in comparison with the experimental result in the Japan Ministry of Transport Ship Research Institution. In order to know the characteristics of the dynamic response of the large floating structures, effects of wavelength, bending rigidity of the structure, water depth, and wave direction on dynamic response of the floating structure are studied by use of numerical calculation.

Collision Simulation of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Considering Ductile Fracture and Hydrodynamics Using Hydrodynamic Plug-in HydroQus

  • This paper intends to introduce the applicability of HydroQus to a problem of a tanker collision against a semi-submersible type floating offshore wind turbine (FOWT). HydroQus is a plug-in based on potential flow theory that generates interactive hydroforces in a commercial Finite element analysis (FEA) code Abaqus/Explicit. Frequency response analyses were conducted for a 10MW capacity FOWT to obtain hydrostatic and hydrodynamic constants. The tanker was modeled with rigid elements, while elastic-plastic elements were used for the FOWT. Mooring chains were modeled to implement station keeping ability of the FOWT. Two types of fracture models were considered: constant failure strain model and combined failure strain model HC-LN model composed of Hosford-Coulomb (HC) model & localized necking (LN) model. The damage extents were evaluated by hydroforces and failure strain models. The largest equivalent plastic strain observed in the cases where both restoring force and radiation force were considered. Stress triaxiality and damage indicator analysis showed that the application of HC-LN model was suitable. It could be stated that applications of suitable failure strain model and hydrodynamics into the collision simulations were of importance.

Big Data Platform Based on Hadoop and Application to Weight Estimation of FPSO Topside

  • Recently, the amount of data to be processed and the complexity thereof have been increasing due to the development of information and communication technology, and industry's interest in such big data is increasing day by day. In the shipbuilding and offshore industry also, there is growing interest in the effective utilization of data, since various and vast amounts of data are being generated in the process of design, production, and operation. In order to effectively utilize big data in the shipbuilding and offshore industry, it is necessary to store and process large amounts of data. In this study, it was considered efficient to apply Hadoop and R, which are mostly used in big data related research. Hadoop is a framework for storing and processing big data. It provides the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) for storing big data, and the MapReduce function for processing. Meanwhile, R provides various data analysis techniques through the language and environment for statistical calculation and graphics. While Hadoop makes it is easy to handle big data, it is difficult to finely process data; and although R has advanced analysis capability, it is difficult to use to process large data. This study proposes a big data platform based on Hadoop for applications in the shipbuilding and offshore industry. The proposed platform includes the existing data of the shipyard, and makes it possible to manage and process the data. To check the applicability of the platform, it is applied to estimate the weights of offshore structure topsides. In this study, we store data of existing FPSOs in Hadoop-based Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), and perform regression analysis using RHadoop. We evaluate the effectiveness of large data processing by RHadoop by comparing the results of regression analysis and the processing time, with the results of using the conventional weight estimation program.

  • 해양플랜트의 설계는 위험요인을 정량적 위험성평가를 통해 계량화하여 그 결과를 설계에 반영하는 것이 일반화되어 있다. 대표적인 위험요소인 화재 위험에 대해서도 이는 마찬가지다. 계량화된 화재 위험에 대해 작업자들이 탈출하는 동안 안전설비의 기능을 유지하고 발생된 화재가 더 크게 전이(escalation)되는 것을 방지하는 것이 방화대책의 궁극적인 목적이다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 방화대책인 능동방화대책과 수동방화대책의 적용사례를 살펴보고 수동방화대책의 설계기법들을 소개한다. 수동방화대책은 효과적인 방화기법이지만 초기 투자비가 많이 소요되고 운용과 유지보수에 애로사항이 크다. 따라서, 최근 들어 발주자들은 수동방화대책을 최적화하도록 해양플랜트 설계자에게 요청하는 추세이다.

  • 우리나라가 세계 물류기지의 중심 곽으로 발전하기 위해서는 날의 급증하고 있는 물류량을 처리하기 위한 항만의 건설이 시급한 과제이다. 국토가 좁고 대도시에 인구가 집중하친 있으나 삼면이 바다로 둘러 쌓여 있는 우리나라의 경우에는 해양공간개발이 필요하다. 증가하는 물류량을 처리할 수 있는 항만의 건설을 위하여 본 연구에서는 초대형 부유체식 컨테이너 야드를 제안하고, 해상에 설치되는 초대형 부유체식 컨테이너야드가 파의 길이, 부유체 구조물의 강성, 해역의 수심, 입사하는 파의 방향 능에 따라서 어떠한 응답특성을 나타내는지 파악한다.
