  • In this paper, we study an approach to design a self-tuning Fuzzy-PI controller in HVDC(High Voltage Direct Current) system. In the rectifier of conversional HVDC system, turning on, turning off, triggering and protections of thyristors have lots of problems that can make the dynamic instability and cannot damp the dynamic disturbance efficiently. The above problems are solved by adapting Fuzzy-PI controller for the fire angle control of rectifier.[7] The performance of the Fuzzy-PI controller is sensitive to the variety of scaling factors. The design procedure dwells on the use of evolutionary computing(Genetic Algorithms, GAs). Then we can obtain the optimal scaling factors of the Fuzzy-PI controller by Genetic Algorithms. In order to improve Fuzzy-PI controller, we adopt FIS to tune the scaling factors of the Fuzzy-PI controller on line. A comparative study has been performed between Fuzzy-PI and self-tuning Fuzzy-PI controller, to prove the superiority of the proposed scheme.

  • Most of the past studies on FMS scheduling problems may be classified into two classes, namely off-line scheduling and on-line scheduling approach. The off-line scheduling methods are used mostly for FMS planning purposes and may not be useful real time control of FMSs, because it generates solutions only after a relatively long period of time. The on-line scheduling methods are used extensively for dynamic real-time control of FMSs although the performance of on-line scheduling algorithms tends vary dramatically depending on various configurations of FMS. Current study is about finding a better on-line scheduling rules for FMS operations. In this study, we propose a method to create priority functions that can be used in setting relative priorities among jobs or machines in on-line scheduling. The priority functions reflect the configuration of FMS and the user-defined objective functions. The priority functions are generated from diverse dispatching rules which may be considered a special priority functions by themselves, and used to determine the order of processing and transporting parts. Overall system of our work consists of two modules, the Priority Function Evolution Module (PFEM) and the FMS Simulation Module (FMSSM). The PFEM generates new priority functions using input variables from a terminal set and primitive functions from a function set by genetic programming. And the FMSSM evaluates each priority function by a simulation methodology. Based on these evaluated values, the PFEM creates new priority functions by using crossover, mutation operation and probabilistic selection. These processes are iteratively applied until the termination criteria are satisfied. We considered various configurations and objective functions of FMSs in our study, and we seek a workable solution rather than an optimum or near optimum solution in scheduling FMS operations in real time. To verify the viability of our approach, experimental results of our model on real FMS are included.

  • This study developed an artificial neural network (ANN) to estimate the growth of microorganisms during a fermentation process. The ANN relies solely on the cumulative consumption of alkali and the buffer capacity, which were measured on-line from the on/off control signal and pH values through automatic pH control. The two input variables were monitored on-line from a series of different batch cultivations and used to train the ANN to estimate biomass. The ANN was refined by optimizing the network structure and by adopting various algorithms for its training. The software estimator successfully generated growth profiles that showed good agreement with the measured biomass of separate batch cultures carried out between at 25 and $35^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, a neural control algorithm is proposed on the automation of adjustment process. The adjustment processes in camcoder production line are modelled, and the processes are adjusted automatically by means of off-line supervisory trained multi-layer neural network. We have made many experiments on the several adjustment processes by using the control algorithm. There are many unexpected troubles to achieve the desirable adjust time in the practical application. To overcome those, some auxiliary algorithms are demanded. As a result, our proposed algorithm has some advantages - simple architecture, easy extraction of the training data without expertises, adaptability to the varying systems, and wide application for the other resemble processes.

  • In this paper, the on line volt/var control algorithms of the food Load Tap Changer (LTC) transformer and Shunt Capacitor(SC) are proposed for distribution volt/var regulation. In the existing volt/var control of the distribution substation, the voltage of feeders and var of distribution systems is mainly controlled by the LTC transformer tap position and on/off status of the shunt capacitor. The LTC and shunt capacitor bank has discrete operation characteristics and therefore it is very difficult to control volt/var at the distribution networks within the satisfactory levels. Also there is limitation of the operation times of the LTC and shunt capacitor bank because it is affects on their functional lifetime. The proposed volt/var control algorithm determine an optimal tap position of LTC and on/off status of shunt capacitors at a distribution network with the multiple feeders. The mathematical equations of the proposed method are introduced. Simple case study was performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper discusses the composition of the theory of reinforcement learning, which is applied in real-time learning, and evolutionary strategy, which proves its the superiority in the finding of the optimal solution at the off-line learning method. The individuals are reduced in order to learn the evolutionary strategy in real-time, and new method that guarantee the convergence of evolutionary mutations are proposed. It possible to control the control object varied as time changes. As the state value of the control object is generated, applied evolutionary strategy each sampling time because the learning process of an estimation, selection, mutation in real-time. These algorithms can be applied, the people who do not have knowledge about the technical tuning of dynamic systems could design the controller or problems in which the characteristics of the system dynamics are slightly varied as time changes. In the future, studies are needed on the proof of the theory through experiments and the characteristic considerations of the robustness against the outside disturbances.

  • Accurate parameters based on equivalent circuit are required for high-performance field-oriented control in a three-phase induction motor. In a normal case, stator resistance can be accurately measured using a measuring equipment. Except for stator resistance, all machine parameters on the equivalent circuit should be estimated with particular algorithms. In the viewpoint of traditional regions, the parameters of an induction motor can be identified through the no-load and standstill test. This study proposes an identification method that uses the d-axis model of the induction motor in a stationary frame with the predefined information on stator resistance. Mutual inductance is estimated on the rotational dq coordination similar to that in the traditional no-load experiment test. The leakage inductance and rotor resistance can be estimated simply by applying different voltages and frequencies in the d-axis model of the induction motor. The proposed method is verified through simulation and experimental results.

  • For the indoor positioning, wireless fingerprinting is most favorable because fingerprinting is most accurate among the techniques for wireless network based indoor positioning which does not require any special equipments dedicated for positioning. The deployment of a fingerprinting method consists of off-line phase and on-line phase. Off-line phase is not a time critical procedure, but on-line phase is indeed a time-critical procedure. If it is too slow then the user's location can be changed while it is calculating and the positioning method would never be accurate. Even so there is no research of improving efficiency of on-line phase of wireless fingerprinting. This paper proposes a decision-tree method for wireless fingerprinting and performs comparative analysis of the fingerprinting techniques including K-NN, Bayesian and our decision-tree.

  • In this paper, the on-line volt/var control algorithms of the Load Tap Changer (LTC) transformer and Shunt Capacitor (SC) are proposed for distribution volt/var compensation. In the existing volt/var control of the distribution substation, the feeder voltage and reactive power demand of the distribution are mainly controlled by the LTC transformer tap position and on/off operation of the Sc. It is very difficult to maintain volt/var at the distribution networks within the satisfactory levels due to the discrete operation characteristics of the LTC and SC. In addition, there is the limitation of the LTC and SC operation times, which affects their functional lifetimes. The proposed volt/var control algorithm determines an optimal tap position of the LTC and on/off status of the SC at a distribution substation with multiple connected feeders. The mathematical equations of the proposed method are introduced. A simple case study is performed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
