Effects of Person-Organization Fit and Person-Job Fit on Occupational Commitment, Organizational Commitment, and Turnover Intentions of Cooks (조리사의 개인-조직 적합성과 개인-직무 적합성이 직업 몰입, 조직 몰입, 이직 의도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of person-organization fit and person-job fit on occupational commitment, organizational commitment and turnover intentions among cooks in the foodservice industry. Data were collected by a total of 210 cooks at restaurants in the Seoul and Kyunggi area. The analysis of AMOS was used to test the causal model. The results indicate that the person-organization fit was positively related to occupational commitment and organizational commitment. The person-job fit was also found to correlate positively with occupational commitment and organizational commitment. Occupational commitment was positively related to turnover intentions while organizational commitment was negatively related to turnover intentions. Implications of the results and limitations of the study were discussed.

The Relationship of Emotional Labor, Empowerment, Job Burnout and Turnover Intention of Clinical Nurses (병원 간호사의 감정노동, 임파워먼트, 직무소진 및 이직의도 간의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among emotional labor, empowerment, job burnout, and turnover intention. Methods: The design of this study was a cross-sectional descriptive study. The subjects of this study were 358 nurses working for over 6 months in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The data were collected from 4th to 30th of September, 2009 through one-to-one interviews. Survey data were analyzed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical regression. Results: We find the positive correlation of turnover intention with emotional labor and with job burnout, but the negative correlation of empowerment with job burnout and with turnover intention. The nurses' turnover intention scores were relatively low with 1.30. Job burnout, shift work, and frequency of turnover were predictors of turnover intention. The most powerful predictor variable was job burnout (${\beta}$=.420, p<.001). We find that emotional labor and empowerment as determinants of turnover intention are not significant. Conclusion: These results suggest that manager should consider shift work of nurses and job burnout in order to manage nurse organization and resource effectively.

Factors Affecting Turnover Intention of People with Mentally Disabilities Working in Manufacturing Industry (제조업에 종사하는 정신장애인 근로자의 이직의도 관련요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify turnover intentions in workers with mentally disabilities working in manufacturing industry. Methods: Participants were 147 workers with mentally disabled living in B-city and Y-city. The data were collected from September 1st to November 30th, 2011 using self-report questionnaires including measurements of turnover intentions, family support, work volition, working environment, job satisfaction and internalized stigma. Data analysis was done using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: The average score for turnover intention was $2.9{\pm}0.7$. Turnover intention was related to job satisfaction, working environment, family support and internalized stigma. The predicting factors for turnover intention were job satisfaction, internalized stigma and gender. Those factors accounted for 41.9% of turnover intention. Conclusion: The results imply that workers with mentally disabled need to reduce internalized stigma as well as to increase job satisfaction in order to decrease turnover intention.

The Relationship between Work-life Conflict and Turnover Intention among Hospital Nurses based on Shift Work (병원간호사의 근무형태에 따른 일-생활 양립 갈등이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study analyzes the relationship between work-life conflict and turnover intention among hospital nurses. Furthermore, it seeks to determine whether the relationship between the two varies depending on the shift work condition of the nurses. Methods: A total of 435 nurses working at five tertiary hospitals were included in the study. The questionnaire included items on turnover intentions, work-life conflicts, sociodemographic factors, working conditions, and internal and external resources. Results: The level of work-life conflict among shift work nurses was higher than that of non-shift work nurses. The turnover intention was also higher for shift work nurses than for non-shift work nurses. Results from the multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the work-life conflict of nurses had a positive relationship with turnover intention. The effect of work-life conflict on turnover intention was greater for shift work nurses than for non-shift work nurses. Conclusion: Work-life conflict had a greater impact on the turnover intention of hospital nurses working under shift work conditions. Based on this study's findings, it can be suggested that, in order to reduce high turnover intention, it will be necessary to make specific efforts to balance work-life conflict and improve working conditions.

Effect of Nursing Organizational Culture, Stress Coping, and Bullying on Clinical Nurses' Turnover Intention (임상간호사의 간호조직문화, 스트레스 대처, 직장 내 괴롭힘이 이직의도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to the investigate the relationship between nursing organizational culture, stress coping, bullying, and turnover intention among Korean hospital nurses; and to identify factors influencing turnover intention. Methods: The participants were 264 nurses working at three general hospitals in a metropolitan area in; South Korea. Data were collected using structured questionnaires from March 20 to June 21, 2021; and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN program. Results: Nurses' turnover intention was positively correlated with hierarchical -oriention (r=.28, p<.001), work -oriention (r=.14, p=.012), and bullying (r=.48, p<.001), whereas turnover intention was negatively correlated with relationship -oriention (r=-.41, p<.001), innovation -oriention (r=-.39, p<.001), and stress coping (r=-.09, p=.009). The factors influencing turnover intention were nursing organizational culture, bullying, age, position, and total working period; these had 44.0% explanatory power for turnover intention (F=14.00, p<.001). Conclusion: According to this study, addressing bullying and strengthening nursing organizational culture is essential to lower turnover intention among clinical nurses.

Meaning of Work-life Balance for Workers With Disabilities

  • Background: This article aims to show that work-life balance (WLB) for workers with disabilities can have important meanings that can affect turnover intention and exclusion from the labor market. Methods: Using the Korean Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled (1st-8th), panel logit models were applied to analyze the effect of WLB on the voluntary turnover intention and behavior of workers with disabilities. WLB types were categorized into four groups (Work-Life Dissatisfaction Group, Only Work Dissatisfaction Group, Only Life Dissatisfaction Group, and Work-Life Balance Group) based on the integration of job satisfaction and life satisfaction. Results: Turnover intention was significantly higher in the work-life imbalance groups (Work-Life Dissatisfaction Group, Only Work Dissatisfaction Group), which is commonly associated with job dissatisfaction. The effect of WLB on turnover intention was 1.38 times higher in Only Work Dissatisfaction Group (β: 2.25, 99% confidence interval [CI]: 1.50, 2.31), characterized by dissatisfaction solely with their job, than in Work-Life Dissatisfaction Group (β: 1.90, 99% CI: 1.97, 2.53), which was experiencing dissatisfaction with both work and life. Only Work Dissatisfaction Group resulted in actual turnover, with females (β: 0.73, 95% CI: 0.37, 1.09) more likely to exit the labor market and males (β: 0.66, 99% CI: 0.41, 0.89) showing a higher tendency to change jobs. Conclusion: WLB policy should focus on job dissatisfaction, a key predictor of turnover intention that leads to actual turnover behavior. Furthermore, women workers with disabilities are a priority policy target group to prevent exclusion from labor.

  • Job satisfaction impacts on the turnover intention of employee, which affects the turnover behavior. This paper concerns with the impact of job satisfaction on the turn over behavior. Since turnover intention is highly correlated with job satisfaction, salary, employment status and etc, we should pay careful attention for modelling of those variables as independent variables and the turnover behavior as a dependent variable in the empirical study for the impact of factors on turnover behavior. We detect significant variables which effect the turnover behavior using 2-stage logistic regression inserting the turnover intention, an independent variable, with the chance estimates derived from the instrumental variables in Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey.

Analysis of Job Satisfaction, Organizational Commitment, and Turnover Intention of Dementia Care Center Employees (치매안심센터 종사자의 직무만족, 조직몰입 및 이직의도 분석)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify the job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention of workers at dementia care centers, and the correlations between these factors. Methods : A survey of 131 dementia care center employees was conducted. This comprised 48 questions covering respondent characteristics, organizational satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intention. Results : Employees with no intention to change jobs had significantly higher job satisfaction and organizational commitment than those with job change intentions. Turnover intention was significantly correlated with both job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The higher the organizational commitment and the lower the turnover intention, the higher the job satisfaction. The higher the job satisfaction and the lower the turnover intention, the higher the organizational commitment. Analysis of the sub-components of the main variables found The lower the work environment, compensation, and sense of belonging to the organization, the higher the turnover intention. Conclusion : Regular educational programs are needed to improve the expertise of workers at the dementia care center, and opportunities for employees to communicate their needs should be maximized. In addition, higher salaries will attract more able and willing employees, reduce turnover, and provide and a sense of of belonging to the organization. Attention to the proper distribution of work and recruitment of appropriate human resources will further improve the working environment. If the job satisfaction and organizational commitment of workers at the dementia care center are increased and the number of employees intending to change jobs is reduced, the length of employee service will increase and contribute to improved care and service quality for dementia patients.

Job Stress, Organizational Commitment, Way of Coping and Turnover Intention among Korean Visiting Nurses (방문간호사의 직무스트레스, 조직몰입 및 대처방법과 이직의도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify factors related to turnover intention among Korean visiting nurses. Methods: The data from 192 of 208 nurses working in southern part of Korea were collected for analysis during in-service education in May 19~20, 2011. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, ANOVA, and logistic regression analysis were performed using SPSS 19.0 program. Results: Among the general characteristic factors, young, married, university graduation, lower satisfaction with income and longer work experience as a nurse were associated with higher odds of turnover intention. Organizational commitment was associated with low turnover intention. Way of coping was not statistically significantly associated with turnover intension. Conclusion: Stress from the organizational system was found to be the most important variable that explains the turnover intention in this study. Use of sensible communication methods and introduction of effective conflict resolution system is suggested to reduce turnover intention. Further research is recommended to identify the job demands and organizational systems of visiting nurses.

Factors Influencing Nurse Turnover Intention of Senior Convalescence Hospitals in the Metropolitan Area (수도권 200병상 이상 노인요양병원 간호사의 이직의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: This study was a descriptive research to investigate the factors influencing nurses' turnover intention of Senior Convalescence hospitals in the metropolitan area. Methods: A cross-sectional survey design was used. A questionnaire was distributed to the nurses in Senior Convalescence hospitals. The data of 210 nurses were analyzed using the descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Results: Turnover intention was significantly correlated with professionalism, job involvement, organizational commitment, job stress, practice environment. Organizational commitment, job stress, age, and practice environment were identified as factors influencing turnover intention. These factors explained 53.3% of variance of turnover intention. Conclusion: The results suggest that strategies to decrease turnover intention should be discussed and continued to develop ways to establish organizational commitment, to lower job stress levels and to improve practice environment of nursing work. And further study is needed to identify the key mechanism in nurses' turnover intention of Senior Convalescence hospitals.
