The effects of risering design and alloying element on the formation of defects such as external depression, primary and secondary shrinkage cavities in ductile cast iron were investigated. Two types of risering design for the cylindrically step-wise specimen, No. 1(progressive solidification) and No. 2(directional solidification) risering designs, were prepared and six different alloy compositions were casted. In the No. 1 risering design, external depression or primary shrinkage cavities due to liquid contraction were observed in all the specimens from SG 10 to SG 60. The defects caused by liquid contraction seemed to be more affected by risering design than alloying elements. The secondary shrinkage cavities were also observed in all the specimens but a swollen surface was not observed in all the castings. The primary shrinkage cavities were located right under the top surface or connected to the top surface, and were characterized by smooth surfaces. On the other hand, the secondary shrinkage cavities were positioned in the thermal center of the specimen steps 3 and 4, and characterized by rough surfaces. In the No. 2 risering design, no external depression or primary shrinkage cavities due to liquid contraction were observed in all the specimens from SG 10 to SG 60. However, the secondary shrinkage cavities were formed in the thermal center of specimens SG 40, 50 and 60. Like the No. 1 risering design, a swollen surface was not observed in all the castings.
This thesis aims to estimate the rainfall runoff from paddy field in a small watershed during irrigation period. When the data observed at the proposed site are not available, the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers which was derived from data observed under the following assumptions is used to study the water balance. a. Monthly base flow was assumed as 10. 2mm even if these is no mouthly rainmfall. b. Monthly comsumption of rainfall was ranged from 100 to 2OOmm without relation to the rainfall depth. However, the small watershed which consists mainly of paddy fields encounters severe droughts and accordingly the baseflow is negligible. Under the circumstances the author has developed the following equation called "Flood Irrigation Method for Rainfall Runoff "taking account of the evapotranspiration, precipitation, seepage, less of transportation, etc. R= __ A 7000(1 +F) -5n(n+1)+ (n+1)(Pr-S-Et)] where: R: runoff (ha-m) A: catchment area (ha) F: coefficient of loss (o.o-0. 20) Pr: rainfall (mm) S: seepage Er: evapotranspiration (mm) To verify the above equation, the annual runoff ratio for 28 years was estimated using the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers the Flood Irrigation Method and the Complex Hydrograph Method based on meteorological data observed in the Dae Eyeog project area, and comparison was made with data observed in the Han River basin. Consequently, the auther has concluded that the Flood Irrigation Method is more consi- stent with the Complex Hydrograph Method and data observed than the Monthly Runoff Equation of Korean Rivers.
Effective notch stress, as an approach to evaluate the local stress at a notch (weld toe or root), is defined as the total stress assuming linear-elastic material behavior. This method can be effectively used to evaluate the fatigue performance of welded joints. In this study, finite element analysis results using the effective notch stress method were correlated with fatigue test results of rib-to-deck welded joints in a steel orthotropic bridge deck. Effective notch stress approach provided a good correlation with the crack pattern observed in the full-scale fatigue test. A higher effective notch stress at the critical weld toe than at the weld root was consistent with the dominant crack pattern observed at the weld toe during testing. The effective notch stress at the toe on the deck plate was about 80% higher than that on the rib; no cracks at the weld toe on the rib in the testing were observed. Maximum effective notch stress at the weld root occurred on the upper side of the root notch, which indicates that cracks are more likely to propagate into the deck plate, not into the weld metal. This is also consistent with the observed crack pattern in which the crack from the root propagated upward into the deck plate. No such crack pattern, propagating into the weld metal, was observed in the testing.
The electrochemical properties of the liposoluble vitamin $K_1$ adsorbed on bare and lipid coated glassy carbon electrodes (GCEs) were studied in unbuffered and well buffered aqueous media. The reduction products of vitamin $K_1$ were characterized by employing cyclic voltammetry and the in situ UV-visible spectroelectrochemical technique. The radical species of vitamin $K_1$ cannot be observed at the bare GCEs in well buffered media. The formation of the anion radical of vitamin $K_1$ was observed in unbuffered solutions above pH 5.9 or at the lipid coated GCE in a well-buffered solution. UV-visible absorption bands of neutral vitamin $K_1$ were observed at 260 nm and 330 nm, and a band corresponding to the anion radical species was observed at 450 nm. The derivative cyclic voltabsorptometric (DCVA) curves obtained for electrochemical reduction of vitamin $K_1$ confirmed the presence of both neutral and anion radical species. The anion radical of vitamin $K_1$ formed at the hydrophobic conditions with phosphatidylcholine (PC) lipid coated electrode was stable enough to be observed in the spectroelectrochemical experiments.
Nitrate poisoning was observed in Holstein calves raising for beef purpose in a dairy-farm of Gyeongbug province. The results observed were summarized as follows: 1. These calves had been fed mainly cornstalk, and a qualitative reaction by "dephenylamine blue test" for nitrate was positive in the serum of the affected calves and in the cornstalk provided. 2. In the clinical signs, the affected calves were suddenly recumbent without premonition and then dyspnea, followed by death. Death also occurred after inappetence, depression, dyspnea, cyanosis of mucous membrane, and terminal anoxic convulsions were observed. 3. In the macroscopical findings, the blood was dark brown (chocolate in color) and more or less poor coagulative. Petechiae of epicardium, severe cloudy swelling of liver, cloudy swelling and hemorrhage of kidney, congestion and hemorrhage of spleen, congestion and edema of lung, and congestion af abomasum and small intestine were observed in these cases. 4. Microscopical changes observed in these cases were peripheral congestion of lobules, centrilobular necrosis and sinusoidal dilatation in liver, hydropic degeneration of hepatic cells, hemorrhage and edema of kidney, necrosis of convoluted-tubular epithelium, and dilatation of Bowman's space and convoluted tubule. There were also congestion and hemorrhage of spleen, hemorrhage and edema of lung, cloudy swelling of myocardium, and congestion and hemorrhage of various organs.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the position and shape of mental foramen in periapical radiographs. For this study, periapical radiographs of premolar areas were obtained from the 200 adults. Accordingly, the positional and shape changes of mental foramen were evaluated. The authors obtained radiographs according to changes in radiation beam direction in periapical radiographs of premolar areas, and then evaluated the positional and shape changes of mental foramen. The following results were obtained: 1. Shapes of mental foramen were observed elliptical(34.3%), round or oval(28.0%), unidentified(25.5%) and diffuse(12.2%) type in descending order of frequency. 2. Horizontal positions of mental foramen were most frequently observed at the 2nd premolar area(55.3%), the area between the 1st premolar and 2nd premolar(39.6%), the area between the 2nd premolar and 1st molar(3.4%), the 1st premolar area(1.0%), the area between the canine and 1st premolar(0.7%) in descending order of frequency. 3. Vertical positions of mental foramen were most frequently observed at the inferior to apex(67.1%), and at apex(24.8%), overlap with apex(6.4%), superior to apex(1.7%) in descending order of frequency. 4. Shapes of mental foramen were more obviously observed at the upward 10° positioned periapical radiographs. And according to the changes of horizontal and vertical position, they were observed similar to normally positioned periapical radiographs.
ZnS phosphors were sintered at vacuum atmosphere, Sintered under the temperature of 950$\^{C}$, ZnS phosphors were grown into the sphalerite structure and two emission peaks were observed at the positions of 460nm and 528nm of the emission spectra. Sintered over the temperature of 1050$\^{C}$, there were simultaneously the sphalerite and wurtize structure in the ZnS phosphors and three emission peaks were observed at the positions of 440nm and 515nm of emission spectra. The emission peaks of 460nm obsrved under the sphalerite structure and 440nm observed under the wurtize structure were due to the vacancy of Zn formed in the ZnS phosphors. The emission peaks of 528nm observed under the sphalerite structure and 515nm observed under the wurtize structure wre caused by the radiative transitions from the level of the vacancy of S formed in the ZnS phosphors to the valance band.

Using a general Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model strain, continuous ethanol fermentation was carried out in a stirred tank bioreactor with a working volume of 1,500 mL. Three different gravity media containing glucose of 120, 200 and 280 g/L, respectively, supplemented with 5 g/L yeast extract and 3 g/L peptone, were fed into the fermentor at different dilution rates. Although complete steady states developed for low gravity medium containing 120 g/L glucose, quasi-steady states and oscillations of the fermented parameters, including residual glucose, ethanol and biomass were observed when high gravity medium containing 200 g/L glucose and very high gravity medium containing 280 g/L glucose were fed at the designated dilution rate of $0.027\;h^{-1}$. The observed quasi-steady states that incorporated these steady states, quasi-steady states and oscillations were proposed as these oscillations were of relatively short periods of time and their averages fluctuated up and down almost symmetrically. The continuous kinetic models that combined both the substrate and product inhibitions were developed and correlated for these observed quasi-steady states.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among use of earphones, stress level, and hearing threshold in university students. Methods: Study subjects included 210 university students (76 men, 134 women). Data were collected by questionnaire and audiometer from December 17 to 20, 2011. The SPSS win 19.0 program was used for data analysis by descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: 1) 4KHz, 6KHz hearing threshold of subjects who used earphones was higher than average hearing threshold of same age group. 2) Not significant differences in hearing threshold were observed according to frequency of use, and stress level. 3) Significant differences in 4KHz hearing threshold were observed according to earphone volume. 4) A significant positive correlation was observed between frequency of use and stress level (r=0.15, p<.05), earphone volume, and 4KHz hearing threshold (left) (r=0.15, p<.05); however, a negative correlation was observed between stress level and 4KHz hearing threshold (right) (r=-0.14, p<.05). Conclusion: A significant positive correlation was observed between frequency of use and stress level and earphone volume and 4KHz hearing threshold (left). Development of a program for hearing conservation is needed.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the pulpal responses of dental adhesive resins. A total of 40 cavities of the permanent healthy teeth from 4 dogs were prepared. In the experimental group, the cavities were etched for 1 minute with citric acid and filled with experimental resins (ie. Super-Bond C & B$^{(R)}$). In the control group, the cavities were filled with calcium hydroxide base materials (ie. Dycal$^{(R)}$) without etching. The dogs were sacrificed at one, two, three and four weeks after the time of filling and the specimens were routinely prepared and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin. The microscopic findings were as follows: Infiltration of inflammatory cells was not observed in both experimental and control groups. Change in the odontoblastic layer was not observed in all control groups but severe swelling was observed in deep dental pulp tissue of the control two and three week cases. Pulp tissue was recovered with plenty of fibrous component in the control four week case and reparative dentin formation was not occurred in all cases. Slight changes of the odontoblastic layer beneath the cavity were observed in the experimental one week case. In experimental two and three week cases, swelling of deep pulp tissue was increased and localized reparative dentin formation was observed. In the experimental four week case, odontoblastic layer was recovered with regular appearance and fibrous component of the pulp was increased, but reparative dentin formation was not evident.
