The introduction of GSMP open interface to OBS network can materialize to separate the transport plane and the control plane in OBS network. This makes the implementation of OBS switches simple and provides various flexibility. However, the introduction of open interface will cause the connection setup delay because of the additional processing overhead of open interface protocol. Also, in GSMP based network, the location of network management functions are not defined explicitly and the research result about the OBS network management is almost nothing. This paper proposes a parallel connection setup mechanism using centralized connection control server to minimize connection setup delay in OBS network with GSMP open interface and defines managed objects to support connection, configuration, performance, and fault management for the management of OBS network with GSMP open interface. This paper also proposes a distributed network management model, in which the above managed objects are distributed in a controller and an OBS switch according to network management functions. We verify the possibility of OBS control and network management by implementing network management function using proposed parallel connection setup mechanism and distributed network management model.
Optical burst switching (OBS) overcomes the inefficient resource usage of optical circuit switching and minimizes the optical buffering requirement of optical packet switching. General switch management protocol (GSMP) is an open interface between a label switch and a controller, and it provides connection, configuration, performance, event management and synchronization. GSMP open interface in the OBS network allows the implementation of OBS switch to be simple by separating the data forward plane from the control plane. We defined managed objects to support connection, configuration, performance, and fault management for the management of OBS network in the GSMP open interface. We proposed the network management model, in which the above managed objects are distributed in a controller and an OBS switch according to network management functions. We verified the possibility of connection management using distributed network management model in the GSMP open interface of OBS network by implementing GSMP and network management functions with managed objects of OBS.

Operation and maintenance (OAM) in optical burst switching (OBS) networks has not yet been addressed even though OBS has been gaining research interest in recent years. In this paper, we defined five OBS functions such as Burst Termination (BT), Burst Transmission (BTX), Burst Switching (BSW), Routing and Switching Control (RSC), and Protection and Restoration (PAR). A functional model for OBS networks and an OAM architecture are designed to meet the operational requirements. We present the first framework to realize OAM in OBS networks, including OAM activities, OAM-capable OBS nodes such as ingress edge, core, and egress edge nodes, OAM information and communication models and protocols. A number of examples of possible network failures are pointed out and the corresponding reactions to these using the proposed OAM architecture are presented.

The optical Internet is considered as a feasible solution for transporting huge amount of traffic volume in the future Internet. Among optical switching technology for the optical Internet, OBS becomes one of the most promoting solution. Recently, a lebeled OBS(LOBS) architecture is considered for an efficient control on OBS network. Given that a data burst may contain few thousands of IP packets, a single loss of data burst results in a serious throughput degradation in LOBS network. In this paper, we improve the performance of LOBS network by introducing the burst congestion control mechanism. More specifically, the OBS router at the network core detects the network congestion by measuring the loss probability of burst control packet. The OBS router at the network edge reduces the burst generation according to the network condition repored by the OBS router at the network core. Through the simulations, it is shown that the proposed congestion control mechanism can reduce the burst loss probability and improve the LOBS network throughput.

This paper describes the optical resource reservation protocol for Optical Burst Switching(OBS) networks, in which the burst sending time and the burst size at an ingress node are determined by the available resources between the ingress and egress nodes. Our scheme attempts to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization. We analyze the performance of the optical resource reservation protocol by using NS2 simulator.
Ocean-bottom seismometer (OBS) positions are one of the key parameters in an OBS-airgun seismic survey for crustal structure study. To improve the quality of these parameters, we have developed a new method of determining OBS positions, using airgun shot data and bathymetric data in addition to available distance measurements by acoustic transponders. The traveltimes of direct water waves emitted by airgun shots and recorded by OBSs are used as important information for determining OBS locations, in cases where there are few acoustic transponder data (<3 sites). The new method consists of two steps. A global search is performed as the first step, to find nodes of the bathymetric grid that are the closest to explaining the observed direct water-wave traveltimes from airgun shots, and acoustic ranging using a transponder system. The use of precise 2D bathymetric data is most important if the bottom topography near the OBS is extremely rough. The locations of the nodes obtained by the first step are used as initial values for the second step, to avoid falling into local convergence minima. In the second step, a non-linear inverse method is executed. If the OBS internal clock shows large drift, a secondary correction for the OBS internal clock is obtained, as well as the OBS location, as final results by this method. We discuss the error and the influence of each measurement used in the determination of OBS location.

We investigate the effects on performance of using a partial retransmission mechanism in Optical Burst Switched(OBS) networks. In our scheme, the lost segments of a burst are retransmitted in the OBS layer. We also propose an optical resource reservation using the partial retransmission mechanism. Our scheme attempts to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization. The performance of the proposed mechanism is analyzed by NS2 simulations. Simulation results indicate that link utilization of the OBS network is improved makedly at the expense of signaling and ingress buffers.
The binding characteristics of five cephalosporins, cefamandole, ceftriaxone, cefoxitin, latamoxef, and cefotetan to bovine serum albumin (BSA) was examined by UV difference spectrophotometry. 2-(4'-hydroxybenzeneazo) benzoic acid was used as the spectrophotometric probe. Competitive bindings between the probe and cephalosporins were observed. Based on the Scatchard plot, the BSA appeared to have two classes of binding sites in BSA binding with cephalosporins. The number of primary binding sites appears to be one, secondary binding sites appears to be three. The binding constants were found as follows: BSA-HBAB; $K_1^{obs}$=8.39$\times$$10^4$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.60$\times$$10^4$$M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefamandole; $K_1^{obs}$=5.44$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=0.74$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefotriaxone; $K_1^{obs}$=6.78$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=0.88$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefoxitin; $K_1^{obs}$=7.24$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.13$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, BSA-Latamoxef; $K_1^{obs}$=8.87$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=1.92$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, BSA-Cefotetan; $K_1^{obs}$=15.41$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$, $K_2^{obs}$=2.7$\times$$10^3$$M^{-1}$.

The correlation was investigated between the observed heat of ligation and calculated quantum chemical quantities for octahedral $[M(H_2O)_{6-x}(NH_3)_x]^{2+} (M=Fe(II),\;Ni(II))$ complexes by EHMO(Extended Huckel Molecular Orbital) and ZINDO/1(Zerner's Intermediate Neglected of Differential Overlap)method. The net charge of $Fe^{2+}$ and $Ni^{2+}$ ion of octahedral $[M(H_2O)_{6-x}(NH_3)_x]^{2+}(M=Fe(II),\;Ni(II))$ complexes(x=O, 1, …, 6) decreased with substituting $NH_3$ for $H_2O$ molecules. It has found that a good correlation exists between the observed heat of ligation and the calculated quantum chemical quantities such as net charge of central atom, enthalpy of formation, and total dissociation energy. From this finding, we have obtained the following semiempirical linear equation ${\Delta}H_{obs}=-0.2858_{qFe}+0.8813(r=0.97),\;{\Delta}H_{obs}=-0.8981_{qNi}+1.7929(r=0.95),\;{\Delta}H_{obs}=-0.0031H_{f(Fe)}+0.5725(r=0.97),\;{\Delta}H_{obs}=-0.0095H_{f(Ni)}+0.9193(r=0.97),\;{\Delta}H_{obs}=0.0476E_{diss(Fe)}+0.6434(r=0.94),\;{\Delta}H_{obs}=0.1401E_{diss(Ni)}+1.1393(r=0.93)$.

Purpose: Maxilla and mandible have different patterns of cortical and trabecular bone and different bone mineral densities, even though both are components of the jaw bone. However, cellular differences between maxilla- and mandible derived osteoblasts (OBs) have rarely been studied. We hypothesize that maxilla- and mandible-derived OBs show different responses to $17{\beta}$-estradiol (E2), which is one of the critical factors for bone formation. This study compares skeletal site-specific cell responses between maxilla- and mandible-derived human OBs to E2. Methods: Maxilla- and mandible-derived OBs derived from an identical donor were separately isolated from a total of five normal healthy subjects aged 18~44 years old, cultured with a treatment of 100 nM estrogen. The responses between maxilla- and mandible-derived OBs to E2 were evaluated and compared using cell proliferation, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and gene expression of osteoprotegerin (OPG), ALP, insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), and estrogen receptor ${\alpha}$ ($ER{\alpha}$). Results: E2 did not have any distinct effects on the proliferation of both types of OBs. Mandible-derived OBs exhibited higher ALP activity than maxilla-derived OBs in the non-treated condition, which was common in all tested individuals. ALP activities of both types of OBs showed a minor increasing tendency with the treatment of E2, even though there was no statistical significance in some specimens. The gene expression of OB by E2 was diverse, depending on the individuals. There was increased expression of OPG, IGF-1, or $ER{\alpha}$ gene in the part of subjects, which was more repeated in maxilla-derived OBs. In particular, OPG or ALP induction by E appeared less frequently in mandible-derived OBs. Conclusion: Current results revealed that E2 affects maxilla- and mandible-derived OBs into facilitating the osteogenic process despite individual differences. Mandible-derived OBs are less sensitive to bone-forming gene expression by E2.
