  • 3D laser scanners are an effective way to quickly acquire a large amount of data about an object. Recently, it is used in various fields such as surveying, displacement measurement, 3D data generation of objects, construction of indoor spatial information, and BIM(Building Information Model). In order to utilize the point cloud data acquired through the 3D laser scanner, it is necessary to make the data acquired from many stations through a matching process into one data with a unified coordinate system. However, analytical researches on the accuracy of point cloud data according to the registration method are insufficient. In this study, we tried to analyze the accuracy of registration method of point cloud data acquired through 3D laser scanner. The point cloud data of the study area was acquired by 3D laser scanner, the point cloud data was registered by the ICP(Iterative Closest Point) method and the shape registration method through the data processing, and the accuracy was analyzed by comparing with the total station survey results. As a result of the accuracy evaluation, the ICP and the shape registration method showed 0.002m~0.005m and 0.002m~0.009m difference with the total station performance, respectively, and each registration method showed a deviation of less than 0.01m. Each registration method showed less than 0.01m of variation in the experimental results, which satisfies the 1: 1,000 digital accuracy and it is suggested that the registration of point cloud data using ICP and shape matching can be utilized for constructing spatial information. In the future, matching of point cloud data by shape registration method will contribute to productivity improvement by reducing target installation in the process of building spatial information using 3D laser scanner.

  • The shape of an object plays a very important role in pattern analysis and classification. Roughly, the researches on this topic can be classified into three fields, i.e. (i) edge detection, (ii) dominant points extraction, and (iii) shape recognition and classification. Many works have been done in these three fields. However, it is very seldom to see the research that discusses the connection relationship of objects. This problem is very important in robot assembly systems. Therefore, here we focus on this problem and discuss how to recover the connection relationship of planar objects. Our method is based on the partial curve identification algorithm. The experiment results show the efficiency and validity of this method.

  • To reconstruct the real 3-D shape from the 3-D measurement data from the multiple directions, the rconstruction of the object on the basis of the mosaic processing of the 3-D measurement data are proposed. In this method, to conduct the reconstruction, the connection points have to be identified among the over-lap area between adjacent 3-D data. In this study, the simple image matching method is adopted for the identification of connection points, and this method is verified from numerical experiments.

  • In this paper, an efficient algorithm for recognizing and positioning occuluded objects in a two-dimensional plane is presented. Model objects and unknown input image are approximated by polygonal boundaries, which are compactly represented by shape functions of the polygons. The input image is partitioned into measningful segments whose end points are at the locations of possible occlusion - i.e. at concave vertices. Each segment is matched against known model objects by calculating a matching measure, which is defined as the minimum euclidean distance between the shape functions. An O(mm(n+m) algorithm for computing the measure is presentd, where n and m are the number of veritces for a model and an unknown object, respectively. Match results from aprtial segments are combined based on mutual compatibility, then are verified using distance transformation and translation vector to produce the final recognition. The proposed algorithm is invariant under translation and rotation of objects, which has been shown by experimental results.

  • Japanese coordinate noun phrases by the particle TO are often ambiguous on whether it means two parallel propositions (and), or a mutual case relation (with or against), as deep case structure. It was a hard problem to determine it, though they are widely used. We propose a method of solving the ambiguity by analyzing mutualness of verbs and adjectives. The mutualness is determined by three features of each verb or adjective. The first feature Indicates permission of mutual expression in the subject, and the second In the object. The last shows if a verb is voluntary. Using this method we design a parsing mechanism, where matching of features is represented as neutralization between predicate arguments.

  • Generally, it is very difficult to inspect geometric shape of large 2D objects after machining. To maintain the accuracy for inspection, a robot vision is used to divide overall shape into several enlarged images, and image processing technique is applied to acquire one minute geometric contour. The inspection is to compare the NC data with the measured contour data by the vision system, and the algorithm is to rotate to minimize the maximum deviation coinciding two geometric centers. This paper experimentally shows that the proposed inspection algorithm is very useful fur a large machined object.

  • A hydraulic system is difficult to keep the performance due to non-linearity, load pressure which changes according to working condition and system parameter variation, the requirement of control algorithm has been risen in order to satisfy them. An adaptive control is a control method which is suggested to achieve a control object though plant characteristics change. In spite of the case that plant characteristics and the degree of variation are difficult to grasp, adaptive control can keep the characteristics of closed-loop system regularly. In this study GMVAC(generalized minimum variance adaptive control) combined with output error feedback is proposed in order to solve problems of non-minimum phase, vibration and overshoot in initial response of the plant. The control performance according to the variation of characteristics of the plant is evaluated by changing the supply pressure only.

  • We developed a novel frame interpolation method to interpolate a frame between two successive original frames. Using this method, we are able to apply a double-rate driving method instead of an impulse driving method where a black frame is inserted between two successive original frames. The double-rate driving method enables amelioration of the motion blur of LCDs caused by the characteristics of human vision without reducing the luminosity of the whole screen. The image quality of the double-rate driving method was also found to be better than that of an impulse driving method using our motion picture simulator and an actual panel. Our initial model of our frame interpolation method consists of motion estimation with a maximum matching pixel count estimation function, an area segmentation technique, and motion compensation with variable segmentation threshold. Although salt and pepper noise remained in a portion of an object mainly due to inaccuracy of motion estimation, we verified the validity of our method and the possibility of improvement in hold-type motion blurring.

  • This paper presents a Bin-Picking method in which robot recognizes the positions and orientations of jumbled objects placed in a bin, then picks up distinctive objects from the top of the jumble. The jumbled objects are recognized comparing the characteristics extracted from stereo images with those in the CAD data. The 3-D information is obtained using the bipartite-matching method which compares image of one camera with the image of the other camera Then the robot picks up the object which will cause the least amount of disturbance to the jumble, and places it at a predetermined place. This paper contributes to the basic study of Bin-Picking, and can be used in an automatic assembly system without using part sorting or orienting devices.
