  • There are many optimal design packages, but they are big ones and they have only a few kinds of optimal algorithm coded with Fortran and it is sometimes necessary for user to write down some codes into their packages. So it is hard for user to learn how to use and customize them. More over, there are no commercial home-made software for optimum design. So, in this paper, several famous optimum algorithms are coded and modulized with C++ which is known as a suitable computer language in order to build up more algorithms into one computer software. All algorithms developed with C++ here were tested for comparison with optimization tool box of MATLAB and are superior to MATLAB.

  • A geometric kernel is the library of core mathematical functions that defines and stores 3D shapes in response to users'commands. We developed a light geometric kernel suitable to develop CAD/CAM application systems. The kernel contains geometric objects, such as points, curves and surfaces and a minimal set of functions for each type but does not contain lots of modeling and handling functions that are useful to create and maintain complex shapes from an idea sketch. The kernel was developed on MS-Windows NT using C++ with STL(Standard Template Library) but it is compatible with UNIX environments. This paper describes the structure of the kernel including several components: base, math, point sequence curve, geometry, translators. The base kernel gives portability to applications and the math kernel contains basic arithmetic and their classes, such as vector and matrix. The geometry kernel contains points, parametric curves, and parametric surfaces. A neutral fie format and programming and document styles are also presented in this paper.

  • This study was to review the possible characteristics and patterns that occur when comparing control language constructing guidelines, by analyzing the formal characteristics of folksonomy tags in university libraries. Based on subjected tags at university libraries for a period of 6 months the structure and form of folksonomy was examined. The object tags were analyzed based on the thesaurus development guidelines. The results for this research will provide baseline data for the use of folksonomy tag applications in digital libraries.

  • The object of this study is the effective utilizations of river environment management technology in the area of river reservoir water by using the technique to detect locations, and to develop algorithms on floating debris. In the floating debris detection areas(The section between the stanks of Dalsung and Gangjung-Goryeong), spectral reflections were measured on floating debris around the river: vegetation(grassland, trees), artifact(concrete, structure etc.), stream water(fresh water, turbid water, algal bloom), and simultaneously characteristics of spectral library were analyzed to river floating debris, respectively.

  • Multimedia searching is an important activity on the Web, especially among the younger generation. The purpose of this study aims to examine college students’ multimedia information needs and searching on the Internet. While there is a clear pattern among students with respect to their multimedia uses, searching sources, relevance criteria and searching barriers, some differences exist especially according to searching of different multimedia types such as image, audio and video. For multimedia uses, information/data-focused uses are frequently found in image and video, while the use of audio is mainly for object-focused searches. As multimedia searching sources, audio and video files present a similar pattern of being high in media specific searching sources and low in generic search engines. Browsing through related blogs and homepages is an important part of searching for media files accounting for approximately 20% of total search for each media. The relevance criteria used by study participants when search for image files was primarily concerned with topicality while the contextual and media quality in the audio and video types are also considered important. Searching barriers for audio and video files are categorized into three broad aspects, including access and search quality, preview limitations and collection limitations, while obstacles for image files searching include access difficulties and low qualities of various collection.

  • The MHEG-5 standard defines representation of multimedia and hypermedia information. The MHEG-5 can make it possible to interchange and present information between heterogeneous networked environment. Also, it can provide real-time user interaction. MHEG-5 object generating is the essential requirements for the MHEG-5 applications, In this paper, we designed encoding/decoding class library for the MHEG-5 objects. We can use it for the interchange on the network. The designed class library can provide base technology for the MHEG-5 based distributed multimedia and hypermedia services on the networked environment.

  • In searching and locating a collection of components on the Web, users require a Web browser. Since the Web libraries tend to grow rapidly, there needs to be an effective way to organize and manage such large libraries. Traditional Web-based library(retrieval) systems provide various classification scheme and retrieval services to store and retrieve components. However, these systems do not include invaluable services, for example, enabling users to grasp the overall contents of the library at the beginning of retrieval. This paper discusses a Web-based library system, which provides the efficient management of object-oriented components and a set of services beyond simple component store and retrieval. These services consist of component comprehension through a reverse engineering process, automated summary extraction, and comprehension-based retrieval. Also, The performance of an automated cluster-based classification scheme adopted on the system is evaluated and compared with the cluster-based classification scheme adopted on the system is evaluated and compared with the performance of two other systems using traditional classification scheme.
