  • This paper is a study on the determination of plane coordinates by observing only the distance with EDM (Electromagnetic Distance Measuring instrument). The advent of EDM has made a precise measurements of long distance be possible, therefore many studies on trilateration were made. It is the object of this study to investigate the error distribution of trilateration according to the changing distance and the geometric figure.

  • A new method for the 3D automatic registration of the multiple range images has been developed for the 3D scanners(non-contact coordinates measurement systems). In the existing methods, the user usually has to input more than 3 pairs of corresponding points for the iterative registration process. The major difficulty of the existing systems lies in that the input corresponding points must be selected very carefully because the optimal searching process and the registration results mostly depend upon the accuracy of the selected points. In the proposed method, this kind of difficulty is greatly mitigated even though it needs only 2 pairs of the corresponding input points. Several registration examples on the 3D measured data have been presented and discussed with the introduction to the proposed algorithm.

  • In this study we augmented a virtual object to an image of a flexible surface such as a paper, which is acquired from a web camera. To get more presence feeling, we consider realistic illumination on augmenting. To get the geometric relation between the camera and the flexible surface, we use markers that are printed on the surface. Using marker information in prior, three dimensional coordinates of the surface can be calculated. After the marker is removed from the input image, we attach a two dimensional texture and shadow to the flexible surface by considering realistic illumination.

  • The object of the present work is the numerical analysis of the computer hard disk slider. The pressure between slider and disk surfaces is calculated using the Boundary Fitted Coordinate System and Divergence Formulation for the nonlinear Reynolds' equation solution. The optimization scheme is applied to search for the steady state position of the slider. The simplified method is given for the case of the fixed inclined pad. The film thickness ratios and pitching and rolling angles are considered as alternative choice of the slider's coordinates. The behavior of the objective function for the Negative Pressure slider is studied in details. Methods of conjugate directions and feasible directions are applied.

  • In this paper, six-degree-of-freedom (DoF). Displacement measurement technique using a compact stereo-vision system is proposed. The measuring system consists of a camera, an optical prism, two plane mirrors, and a planar marker on a target. The target was attached on an object so that its six-DoF displacement can be calculated using a proposed coordinates estimating algorithm and stereo images of the marker. A prototype was designed and fabricated for performance test. From the test results, it can be confirmed that the proposed measuring technique can be applied to monitoring and control of various manipulators.

  • This study was performed to establish PC-based Urban Infrastructure Information System(UIIS) using GPS and TotalStation as an alternative to UNIX-based UIIS. After carryig out this study, the following conclusions were derived: PC-based UIIS costs less time and money than UNIX-based UIIS. The coordinates of the control point of the site were obtained using DGPS, then based on this point, locational data were obtained using RTK GPS and TotalStation in the site with realtime data capture to enhance the accuracy of locational data. And image data were also entered into database together with the text data. So, the multimedia database is possible in UIIS.

  • One of challenging topics for humanoid hands is to modulate a human-like motion of humanoid fingers handling an object. To this end, recognizing the motion behavior of human fingers is very important aspect. Based on this concept, this paper identifies the .joint trajectories of human fingers for an operation of hand opening and closing, and specifies an empirical model that coordinates an inter-articular relationship of human fingers doing the given motion. It is expected that the inter-articular model presented in this paper is applicable for humanoid fingers to mimic the natural motion of human fingers.

  • In this paper, it is studied that kinematic analysis of a 5-axis ultrasonic inspection equipment. The equipment is comprised of three straight axes and two rotary axes. With features of ultrasonic, the transmitter and receiver of the equipment are vertical to a test surface, operating at regular intervals. To perform this well, the motions of every link should be found on the based of kinematic analysis of the equipment. We chose starting point for testing and defined relations among all links through transformation of coordinates. For double curvature-shaped test object, we generated test paths. To follow these, we found motions of all links using inverse kinematics. By using Matlab/Simulink, simulator was developed, so that we could find out desired trajectories of main axes for a scan.

  • In this paper we present an algorithm to generate new views of a scene, starting with images from weakly calibrated cameras. Errors in 3D scene reconstruction usually gets reflected in the quality of the new scene generated, so we seek a direct method for reprojection. In this paper, we use the knowledge of dense point matches and their affine coordinate values to estimate the corresponding affine coordinate values in the new scene. We borrow ideas from the object recognition literature, and extend them significantly to solve the problem of reprojection. Unlike the epipolar line intersection algorithms for reprojection which requires at least eight matched points across three images, we need only five matched points. The theory of reprojection is used with hardware based rendering to achieve fast rendering. We demonstrate our results of novel view generation from stereopairs for arbitrary locations of the virtual camera.

  • Terrestrial LiDAR can be used to accurately measure the 3D slope terrain because it can obtain the entire shape of the object, instead of only a specific location, while not much influenced by the environment, and it can create more dense and precise 3D coordinates than those of aerial LiDAR. Therefore, in this study, subject areas with different terrain conditions were selected, the terrestrial LiDAR device was used to observe the slope terrain, and a slope terrain analysis technique was proposed based on the observation results.
