Objectives : The objectives of this study is to develop a mouse model similar to Taeeum-type by inducing Lung fibrosis with bleomycin, and to determine adequate concentration of bleomycin. Methods : The subjects were divided into six groups: normal, obesity induced group, and bleomycin administered 0.015U, 0.03U, 0.06U, and 0.09U(U/100g bw) concentrations respectively. Each concentration of bleomycin was dissolved in distilled water, and administered through Intra-Nazal-Trachea injection method. Food intake and body weight were measured at regular time weekly. At the end of the experiment, blood was gathered by cardiac puncture for biochemical examinations, organs were removed for histological examinations, and weigh and mRNA genes was analyzed. Result : Mice administered with bleomycin at 0.015U and 0.03U showed body and fat weight gain, and increased blood total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, glucose, and free fatty acid level. Fat related genes also showed higher level than the control group. Obesity was most strongly induced in the mice administered with 0.03U of bleomycin. On the other hand, when bleomycin was administered at concentrations above 0.06U, a model of obesity mouse was not created due to rapid emphysema inflammation and weakness. Conclusions : Mice were most vulnerable to obesity when bleomycin was administered at a concentration of 0.3 to cause liver damage. Bleomycin concentration over 0.06U did not cause obesity-induced mice, due to severe damage in liver.
Objectives: Normal weight obesity (NWO) is defined as excessive body fat in the context of a normal body mass index (BMI). This condition carries a greater risk of developing noncommunicable chronic disease and has been associated with early inflammation. This study was conducted to compare the anthropometric measurements, eating behaviors, and blood clinical indices among four groups: underweight, normal, normal weight obesity and obesity. Methods: The subjects included 215 female college students. A questionnaire was administered regarding general characteristics, dietary behaviors, food consumption frequency. Anthropometric measurements and blood clinical indices were also investigated. Results: The average BMI, body fat percentage, waist circumference, fat-free mass, and muscle mass were highest in the obesity group (p<0.05). Most subjects had tried to lose weight and perceived that their health was worse than before they became college students. The ratio of students in the NWO group who thought their health was very poor was significantly higher than in the other three groups (p<0.05). The obesity and NWO groups seemed to eat more and their eating speed was significantly faster than the other groups (p<0.001). The consumption frequency of caffeinated beverages was significantly higher in the NWO group than in the other three groups (p<0.01). WBC was significantly higher in the obesity group (p<0.05). Serum levels of TG and total cholesterol were also significantly higher in the obesity group (p<0.05). Serum GPT was significantly higher in the obesity group (p<0.05) while BUN level was highest in the NWO group (p<0.05). Conclusions: The obesity group showed the most health problems while the NWO group seemed relatively healthy. However, NWO can lead to problems such as metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease in later life if poor dietary habits are maintained. Therefore, education in appropriate eating habits is needed for these subjects.
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the associated factors with subjective oral symptoms experience of obesity adolescents. Methods: The study subjects were targeting 8,139 obesity adolescents and 55,601 non-Obesity adolescents who completed 2016 Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based survey. Dependent variables were subjective oral symptoms experiences of fracture teeth, pain, throbbing pain, periodontal pain & bleeding, mucosal disease and bad breath. Independent variables were demographic characteristics of the subjects, oral health behaviors, health behaviors and eating habits. Results: Obesity adolescents were 12.8% with 61.9% subjective oral symptoms experience. Regarding the related factors of subjective oral symptoms experience of obesity adolescents, the factors were identified to be significantly higher in high school (OR=1.72) compared to middle school, learning achievement was higher in middle (OR=1.09) and lower (OR=1.31) compared to high, economic status was higher in lower (OR=1.09) compared to high, sealant experience (OR=1.10) and scaling experiences (OR=1.12) responded no were higher compared to responded yes, smoking experiences responded yes(OR=1.08) were higher compared to responded no, sweet drink (OR=1.14) and fastfood (OR=1.13) consumption were higher in consumption compared to non-consumption and females (OR=0.46) were higher than males. Oral symptoms experience were lower that father and mother's level of education were under high school graduation (OR=0.86) compared to unknown, economic status was in case of middle (OR=0.93) compared to high, tooth brushing was lower in under 1 time (OR=0.76), 2 times (OR=0.61) compared to more than 3 times, vigorous physical activities responded no (OR=0.75) were lower, compared to yes, vegetable consumption was lower in non-consumption (OR=0.68) compared to consumption. Conclusions: Subjective oral symptoms experiences were identified higher in obesity adolescents than non-obesity adolescents. It would be useful to use the results of this study to reduce oral symptoms and necessary to develop a program system considering characteristics of obesity adolescents.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to explore the anti-obesity effect of Cydonia oblonga Miller fruit extract (COME) and to compare its anti-obesity efficacy with Garcinia cambogia extract (GCE) in diet-induced obese mice. Methods: Five-week-old male C57BL/6 were allocated into four groups: control diet (CD), high-fat diet (HFD), HFD + 400 mg/kg body weight (BW)/day COME (H+C), or HFD + 400 mg/kg BW/day GCE (H+G) groups. COME or GCE was administered once a day by oral gavage for eight weeks. Body weight, body fat percentage, fat weight, and biochemical parameters in serum were measured. The expressions of transcription factors and their target genes in epididymal adipose tissues were analyzed by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction. Results: COME reduced body weight, weight gain, body fat percentage, total white adipose tissue weight, adipocyte size, and serum levels of insulin and leptin in high-fat diet-induced obese C57BL/6 mice. COME suppressed the mRNA expressions of CCAAT/enhancer binding proteinα, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptorγ, sterol-regulatory element-binding protein-1c, fatty acid synthase, and adipocyte protein 2 and increased carnitine palmitoyl transferase 1 mRNA expression in epidydimal adipose tissues. The anti-obesity efficacy of COME was found to be similar to that of GCE at the same dose. However, COME more effectively decreased adipose tissue weights, epididymal adipocyte size, serum insulin and leptin compared to GCE. Conclusions: These results demonstrated that COME is not toxic and exhibits anti-obesity efficacy at a level similar to that of GCE, suggesting that COME may be applicable as an anti-obesity agent.
Targeting in-dorm university students, this study is to check body-shape perception, obesity, weight control, and obesity stress, and to figure out the effect level of each variables toward obesity stress. Data were collected by self-evaluation questionnaire from 305 respondents in dorms of a university, and the survey was conducted from May 27 to June 7 of the year 2013. As a result of the survey, both male and female students did not properly perceive their own body-shape. Female students felt that they were fat more than male students did; on the other hand, male students felt that they were skinny even though they were in standard. Females felt more obesity stress than males, and for both male and female students, more obesity resulted in deeper obesity stress. For female students, when the actual body shape is not similar to the body shape that they believe to be, they feel more obesity stress; however for male students, the result was reversed. The group that tried weight control felt more obesity stress than the other group, for both males and females. In addition, for both male and female, the group that has more will toward weight control felt more obesity stress. The effect factors that were checked through multi-variable analysis is like the following: for male students, as they feel fat and as they pay more attention to weight control, the obesity stress increased, and for female students, as they pay more attention to weight control, the obesity stress increased. Focusing on higher obesity stress groups that are distinguished through applying factors to influence on decreasing obesity stress based on the analysis result, and especially for male university students, running exercise programs at the same time for skinny bodies to gain fat would be more effective to decrease obesity stress.
Recently obesity which had not been at issue very much before comes to the fore as an important health problem. But women frequently attempt excessive weight controls not to cure obesity but to fit false norms of women's appearances. Both these trends and tendencies of perceiving themselves to be fatter than what thay are work as a kind of stressor which impose psychological burden on most women, and finally threaten their mental health. In this point, the purpose of this study was to analize the factors having an effect on women's weight-related stress. This study included a survey and obese level measurement of a systematic random samples of 431 E. University senior students for 17 days(from 13 May 1996 to 29 May 1996). As results, obese level, especially the subject's evaluation for her obese level, history of weight control, and strong weigh control beliefs that the success depends on herself influenced stress.
The aim of the present study was to assess the anti-obesity effects of fermented kochujang supplement in C57BL/6J mice. Thirty mice were divided into 3 groups; normal diet control group (ND), high fat diet control group (HD), and high fat diet plus kochujang supplemented group (HDK). Results were as follows: 1. Fennented kochujang supplement in high fat diet decreased body weight and epidydimal and back fat weight compared to non-supplement in HD group. 2. Lipid content and blood glucose level were lower in HDK group than HD group. 3. Fermented kochujang supplement increased mRNA level of lipolytic genes such as acyl-CoA synthetase (ACS), carnitine palmitoyltransferase-1 (CPT-1), and uncoupling proteins-1 (UCP-1) expression, whereas decreased mRNA level of adipogenic genes such as acetyl CoA carboxylase (ACC) expression. These findings suggest that fermented kochujang supplement in high fat diet normalized body weight, epididymal and back fat weight, lipid content, and blood glucose levels through controlling lipid metabolism and provides basic information on the control of obesity.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine factors that influencing medication adherence in patients with dyslipidemia. Methods: Data were collected from fifth Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2010-2012), we selected 1,992 adults aged over 30yr who participants in both health examination and health interview survey. Using the SAS 9.2 Program, data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test, t-test and multiple logistic regression. Results: Medication adherence was associated with age, obesity, educational level and Health screening within 2 years. The cases with older age, obesity, higher level of education and experience of Health screening within 2 years showed significantly high medication adherence, whereas high risk group of dyslipidemia such as cardiovascular disease patients showed low medication adherence. Conclusions: Further study and strategies are needed to improve high levels of medication adherence based on factors influencing such as age, obesity, level of education and health screening experience within 2 years.
Dietary components can modulate stress, inflammatory indicators, and health risk. This study examined the relationship among diet, metabolic disease risk, and perceived stress in Korean adult females using the 2017-2018 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A total of 4,353 adult women aged 19-64 years were classified into four groups according to perceived stress level: very high stress group (VHSG, n=225), high stress group (HSG, n=1,079), moderate stress group (MSG, n=2,532), and low stress group (LSG, n=517). Data collection included the sociodemographics, anthropometrics, blood profile, and dietary survey. After adjusting for covariates, those in the VHSG had a higher body mass index (p=0.013) and obesity rate (p=0.053) with a shorter sleep time than the LSG group. The VHSG also tended to have a higher plasma LDL-cholesterol, hsC-reactive protein and lower levels of HDL-cholesterol, vitamin A, and vitamin E than the low stress group. High stress subjects demonstrated increased breakfast skipping frequency (p<0.0001), decreased fiber intake (p=0.001), potassium (p=0.041), and vitamin A (p=0.011) than the low stress ones. Therefore the perceived stress level was associated with the inflammatory indicators, obesity, and lack of anti-inflammatory or antioxidant nutrients. The dietary components may be an important mediator of stress and metabolic disease.
Objectives : We experimented with Daesiho-tang in order to investigate the effects on the weight of obesity. Methods : We fed a control group of rats a high fat diet and administerd normal saline for 6 weeks. And we fed an experimental group of rats a high fat diet and administered an extracted of Daesiho-tang for 6 weeks. Results : Daesiho-tang suppressed the increasing amount of body weight in comparison with control group. The serum total cholesterol level, free fatty acid level in Daesiho-tang group showed a significant decrease in comparison with control group. The serum triglyceride, total lipid level in Daesiho-tang group showed a decrease in comparison with control group, but this result showed no efficacy. Conclusions : We concluded that the clinical application of Daesiho-tang can help the treatment of obesity.
