The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of Web-based nutrition education program for junior and senior high school students. Three materials, which were printed materials on Group I, WBI (Web-Based Instruction) leaflet on Group II and the web-based nutrition education program developed in the antecedent research, were applied for 564 students in 3 junior high school and 4 senior high school in Seoul during 4 weeks. Pre-test was done from October 21 to October 26, 2002 and post-test was done from November 25 to December 13, 2002. The statistical data analysis was completed using SPSS WIN (ver. 11.0) for descriptive analysis, t-test and ANOVA. According to the evaluation of effectiveness for web-based nutrition education program, nutrition knowledge, food attitude, food habit and nutrient intake were not significantly improved but positively. And on the evaluation of effectiveness for nutrition education program by materials, WBI was more effective educational materials than WBI leaflet and printed materials. Consequently nutrition knowledge, food attitude, food habit and nutrient intake were improved positively but not significantly using WBI, which was due to the instructional period of the only 4 weeks. Therefore long-term instruction should be required for effective nutrition program, as well as more WBI nutrition education program for high school students would need to be developed in the near future in that WBI was effective material on nutrition education.
This study was developed the nutrition education program for kindergarten children and was evaluated its educational effect by 'Non-equivalent control group design'. Nutrition education program was developed on the basis of the concept which consisted of nutrition, nutrients, food handling, life cycle and social$.$psychological needs. And it was developed on the basis of the theme which consisted of kind of foods, relation between food and body, importance of food, food and sanitation, food and environment, Korean traditional food and good table manners. Subjects consisted of 157 kindergarten children, with 48 in control group and 109 in treatment group. All the subjects completed a pretest and a posttest and the posttest means between control and treatment group were compared. The control group had a adjusted posttest mean score of nutrition knowledge of 50.64 and the treatment group had that of 75.19 and the difference was significant(p<0.001). The control group had a adjusted posttest mean score of food attitude of 65.49 and the treatment group had that of 85.40 and the difference was significant(p<0.001). This study examined the effects of 'Dietary education for children's health UP' (DECHUP) on the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and practice (KAP) of nutrition and food safety in $5^{th}$ grade elementary school students in Incheon. The DECHUP program was conducted from May to October 2018 and consisted of education and activities focusing on the children's levels of understanding. Data were collected before, immediately after, and 6 weeks after DECHUP using the same method. All data were analyzed using SPSS ver 20.0. The level of knowledge and attitudes of the subjects to nutrition and food safety was significantly higher after than before DECHUP, but the attitude of boys did not show any significant difference after 6 weeks. Although there were no significant differences in the behavior for nutrition in the practice of the subjects, there were significant positive changes in the behavior of food safety. The higher the satisfaction of DECHUP, the more positive the change in knowledge, and the more positive the attitude and practice behaviors. Therefore, DECHUP has positive effects on the KAP of the subjects, and it will be helpful for elementary school students to form desirable eating habits if it can be carried out periodically and continuously.
This study was undertaken to determine factors associated with infant feeding practices among highly educated Korean mothers living in Texas, USA and local populations. In both groups, infant's birth order, maternal age, prenatal education, husband's attitude, mother's attitude and infant's taking a bottle to bed were not associated with infant's feeding patterns significantly. However, there was a significant difference in initiating time for introduction of supplementary foods between Koreans and Americans. Thus Korean mothers introduced supplementary foods earlier than American counterparts. Furthermore the infant's feeding method among all participants affected the time for introducing supplementary foods significantly. Though attitude of Korean mothers toward breastfeeding was slightly more positive than that of American mothers, the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding in Koreans was much lower than that in Americans. It might be suggested that effective nutrition education program for Korean subjects should be developed to practice breastfeeding from positive attitude and knowledge. It might be also suggested that participation of prenatal nutrition education involving fathers should be encouraged for promotion of rates of initiation and duration of exclusive breastfeeding of mothers.
This study investigates what consumption values affect attitude and behavioral intentions toward a premium lunch box at a convenience store using VAB(Value-Attitude-Behavior) model. The main survey was conducted by a research company by means of an online survey in the form of a self-administered questionnaire. The samples were limited to customers who had tried the premium lunch box before. The survey was conducted in October 2016. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 21.0 for Windows and AMOS 21.0. A structural equation model(SEM) was used to verify the proposed relationships among the study variables. Three factors representing the value of the premium lunch box were identified: social & functional value, economic value, and epistemic value. The finding showed that these values had a positive effect on attitude toward the premium lunch box and that attitude had a positive effect on behavioral intentions.
This study was done to investigate the correlation between food-life-attitude and anemia as well as obesity. 154 people living in Kimchun in the forties or fifties were selected for this study as subjects from January to February, 1991. The data analysis was made by way of frequency, percentage, X, SD and pearson correlation using SAS package of PC. The summarized results were as follows. The survey on food-life-attitude showed that 32.5% of the subjects had a good attitude. The average score of the subject's food-life-attitude was 31.3. 34.4% of the subjects were obesity. The significant items positively correlated to obesity were a regular breakfast, the settled amount of meal intake, concerns about food combination, an effort to correct an unbalanced diet, the presence of remained meal, an appetite, a diet considered to health, the use of instant foods and daily intakes of green-yellow vegetables, protein foods and seaweeds. 9.1% of the subjects were anemia. The significant items positively correlated to anemia were an effort to correct an unbalanced diet, a sweet meal, an appetite, attentions to food additives, a diet considered to health, the use of instant foods, daily intakes of green-yellow vegetables and seaweeds and a regular meal.

This study was designed to determine the seafood prcference of the 480 elcmentaty school children in Pusan. The survey was conducted from February 8 to February 22 in 2000. The correlation between nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude is highly significant. However there were no differences in nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude berween male and frmale students. Children's prefercnce is high in laver, crab, common squid, mackerel, hair tail, shrimp, but is low in oyster, warty sea squirt and salt-fermented seafood. The factors affected on the intake frequcncy of seafood and preference were dietary attitude of the children, cducation level of the mother and recommendation of the mother. Children's opinion on the intake of seafood was influenced by their nutrition knowledge and dietary attitude and the recommendation of the mother. Eating frequcncies of the seafood were not influenced by sex, family type, monthly food expenditure and dietary attitude of the mother.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Excessive sugar intake is one of the causes associated with obesity and several chronic diseases prevalent in the modern society. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of parenting variables based on the theory of planned behavior, on the sweetness preferences and sweets intake of children. SUBJECTS/METHODS: Parents and their children (n = 103, aged 5-7 years) were enrolled to participate in a survey for this study, after providing the required informed consent. Parents were asked to fill out a self-administered questionnaire at their residence. The sweetness preference test for children was conducted at a kindergarten (or daycare center) by applying the one-on-one interview method. RESULTS: The children were divided into two clusters categorized by the K-mean cluster analysis: Cluster 1 had higher sweetness preference (0.42 M sugar, 35%; 0.61 M sugar, 65%); Cluster 2 exhibited lower sweetness preference (0.14 M sugar, 9.5%; 0.20 M sugar, 9.5%; 0.29 M sugar, 81%). Cluster 1 had a higher frequency of sweets intake (P < 0.01), and lower sweets restriction (P < 0.05) and nutrition quotient score (P < 0.05). Sweets intake was negatively correlated with the nutritional quotient (r = -0.204, P < 0.05). The behavioral intention of parents was higher in cluster 2 (P < 0.05), while affective attitude, feeding practice, and reward were higher in cluster 1 (P < 0.001, P < 0.05, and P < 0.01, respectively). Furthermore, behavioral intention of parents showed a negative correlation with affective attitude (r = -0.282, P < 0.01) and feeding practice (r = -0.380, P < 0.01), and a positive correlation with subjective norm (r = 0.203, P < 0.05) and parenting attitude (r = 0.433, P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: This study indicates that the sweetness preferences and sweets intake of children is related to the parent's affective attitude, feeding practice and reward. We suggest that to reduce the sugar consumption of children, guidelines for access to sweets and pertinent parenting practices are required.
The enforcement and its effect of weight control program including nutrition education, exercise and behavioral modification therapy during 20 weeks were studied in primary school obese children. The sample consisted of treatment group(n=19) and control group (n=23). To evaluate the effects of weight control program, treatment group took pretest and posttest for nutrition knowledge, attitude and food habits. Nutrient intakes, serum lipid levels and anthropometric values were also measured. After weight control program, body weight of treatment group significantly decreased from 47.0$\pm$9.0kg to 45.9$\pm$8.5kg(p<0.001), but than of control group increased from 47.8$\pm$8.1kg to 49.0$\pm$8.7kg (p$\leq$0.05). Obesity index showed decline of 8.6% for treatment group and gain of 0.7% for control group. After self-control period, body weight and relate index in both groups were increased. For the nutrition knowledge test results, the posttest mean scores of treatment group showed the significant increase(p<0.001). For the attitude toward nutrition and food habit results, the posttest mean scores increased significantly (p<0.05, p<0.01). There was a decline of 28% in serum triglycerides, whereas serum total cholesterol increased 11% of baseline. These findings suggest that well-combined weight control program for obese children may result in a substantial loss of body weight during 14 weeks. In addition, these reuslts indicate that weight redution through weight control program can be a viable approach to help normalize serum lipids in obese children. Finally, these data suggest that it may be important to identify that affect weight loss and maintenance, and to examine how to manipulate these factors in weight control program.

Dietary habit of excess sodium consumption is formed mainly by excessive salt intake from the younger age and this may lead to hypertension, stroke, and stomach cancer. This study was performed to estimate the salt content in kindergarten meals and provide basic data on meal providers' dietary attitude to sodium intake for nutrition education. We collected data on161 food items from 16 institutions in Gyeonggi-do and salt content was calculated from salinity and weight of individual food items. The average salt content from lunch meals was 2.2 g, which was about daily adequate intake of sodium for children aged 3 to 5 years old. Greatest contributor to the salt content in a meal was soup and stew (47.8%). The most salty dishes were sauces and kimchi followed by stir-fried food, deep-fried food, braised food, and grilled food. The salt content was higher in soup and stew despite of low salinity, due to the large quantity per serving. The salt contents of soups and kimchi were 40.6% and 14.3%, respectively of the total salt content in dish groups. Staff members and caregivers at home who prepared food for the child showed preference for one-dish rice meal, dried fish and salted mackerel, and broth when eating soup, stew, and noodles. Caregivers showed higher sodium index score and had higher preference for processed food such as Ramen, canned food, and ham compared with staff members (p < 0.05). These results suggested that monitoring salt content of kindergarten meals and nutrition education for those prepare meals for children are needed to lower sodium intake in childhood.
