  • The solution to a liquid sloshing problem is challenge to the field of engineering. This is not only because the dynamic boundary condition at the free surface is nonlinear, but also because the position of the free surface varies with time in a manner not known a priori. Therefore, this nonlinear phenomenon, which is characterized by the oscillation of the unrestrained free surface of the fluid, is a difficult mathematical problem to solve numerically and analytically. In this study, three-dimensional boundary element method(BEM), which is based on the so-called an arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian(ALE) approach for the fluid flow problems with a free surface, was formulated to solve the behavior of the nonlinear free surface motion. An ALE-BEM has the advantage to track the free surface along any prescribed paths by using only one displacement variable, even for a three-dimensional problem. Also, some numerical examples were presented to demonstrate the validity and the applicability of the developed procedure.

  • The output image of the uncooled thermal infrared camera is difficult the identification of target because of the limited dynamic range and the various noises. Retinex algorithm based on the theory of the human visual perception is known to be effective contrast enhancement technique. However, the image quality is insufficient when it is adopted to the narrow dynamic range image as the infrared image. In this paper, we propose the revised retinex algorithm to enhance the contrast of the infrared image. To improve the contrast enhancement performance, we designed the new dynamic range compression function instead of log function. To reduce the noise and compensate the loss of edge, we added the contrast compensation procedure in the MSR image generation process. According to the output picture comparing and numerical analysis, the proposed algorithm shows the better contrast enhancement performance and the more suitable method for the infrared image enhancement.

  • The curing process is the final step in tire manufacturing whereby a green tire built from layers of rubber compounds is formed to the desired shape and the compounds are converted to a strong, elastic materials to meet tire performance needs under elevated pressure and temperature in a press. A numerical optimization procedure was developed to improve product quality in a tire curing process. First, a dynamic constrained optimization problem was formulated to determine the optimal condition of the supplied cure media during a curing process. The objective function is subject to an equality constraint representing the process model that describes the heat transfer and cures kinetic phenomena in a cure press and is subject to inequality constraints representing temperature limits imposed on cure media. Then, the optimization problem was solved to determine optimal condition of the supplied cure media for a tire using the complex algorithm along with a finite element model solver.

  • Recently, the damaged concrete structures are often strengthened or repaired using the polymer concrete or the polymer cement mortar. In the repaired concrete structures at early ages, internal stresses could be developed due to the differential drying shrinkage of the repair material. Due to the difference of the thermal coefficients of the repair material and existing concrete, additional stresses also could be developed as the structures are subjected to the ambient temperature changes. Theses environmentally-induced stresses can sometimes be large enough to cause damage to the structures, such as debonding of the interface between the two materials. In this study, a rational procedure was developed where anchors can be designed and installed to prevent damages in such structures by thermally-induced stresses. Finally, through the experimental study and numerical study, the effects of the repair method using anchors with debonding was investigated and discussed the results.

  • Reliability prediction provides a rational basis for design decisions such as the choice between alternative concepts, choice of part quality levels, derating factors to be applied, use of proven versus state-of-the-art techniques, and other factors. For this reasons, reliability prediction is essential functions in developing space systems. The worth of the quantitative expression lies in the information conveyed with the numerical value and the use which is made of that information and reliability prediction should be initiated early in the configuration definition stage to aid in the evaluation of the design and to provide a basis for item reliability allocation (apportionment) and establishing corrective action priorities. Reliability models and predictions are updated when there is a significant change in the item design availability of design details, environmental requirements, stress data, failure rate data, or service use profile. In this paper, the procedure, selection of reliability data and methods for space system reliability prediction is presented.

  • This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation on the behavior of a geosynthetic reinforced two-tier segmental retaining wall (GR-SRW) on a yielding foundation. A hypothetical 10 m high two tier GR-SRW to be constructed on an incompetent foundation containing a layer of relative soft soil deposit was considered. A verified finite-element procedure was employed to get insights into the effect of foundation yielding on the wall behavior including the wall deformation and the reinforcement load. It is shown that the effect of foundation yielding is to increase the wall deformation as well as the reinforcement load, thus influencing both the internal as well as the external stability of the wall. Practical implications of the findings obtained from this study are highlighted in this paper.

  • In the future Network Centric Warfare(NCW), changing to IPv6 based network environment is required to enable various future technologies such as the Internet of Things(IoT) and cloud technology which are expected to be introduced to the tactical network evolution. With the change to the IPv6 network, an ID/LOC(Identifier/Location) separation protocol that decomposes context of the IP address to location and identifier can enhance network capacity of increasing number of device and provide efficient mobility management in the tactical network that changes topology dynamically. In this paper, we choose ILNP(Identifier-Locator Network Protocol) as an ID/LOC separation for tactical network environment. In addition to ILNP-based tactical network design, this paper proposes a network-based mobility management scheme for providing efficient mobility management. Through numerical performance analysis, we show that the proposed scheme can reduce network loads more effectively than the conventional IP-based mobility management scheme and common handover procedure in ILNP.

  • In the combat environments at the sea, the naval ships should have enough structural integrity to perform the task under the enemy's attack and possible damages. Although the naval ships can be damaged from the enemy's attack, those damages should be minimized and the naval ships must maintain their combat capabilities continuously after recoveries from the damages. Therefore, it is ve교 important for modem naval ships, especially combat naval ships, to ensure the survivability. This paper reviewed the developing procedure for the technique of the naval ships structures and described method, especially box girder system considering survivability. The efficiency of box girder is examined by numerical simulation, and it is found that the establishment of box girder is a good design method to improve the survivability.

  • The ODR(orthogonal double-rotation) digital lattice filters have desirable properties for VLSI implementation such as local connection, regularity and pipelinability. These filters are also known to exhibit good numerical behavior for finite precision implementation. Although these filters can be pipelined by the cut-set localization procedure, it should be noted that the maximum sample rate obtained by this technique is limited by the feedback computations. In this paper, a pipelining method for the ODR digital lattice filter is proposed, by which the sample rate can be increased at any desired level. it is also shown that the low-power CMOS digital implementation of ODR digital lattice filters can be done successfully using our pipelining method. The pipelining method is based on the properties of the Schur algoithm, constrained filter design methods, and the polyphase decomposition technique.

  • In designing a video-on-demand (VoD) system, the major challenge may be how to reduce the channels concurrently used maintaining the client's waiting time. For this reason, the various architectures which integrate the multicast streams with the unicast streams were suggested in order to improve channel efficiency in recent years. In combining multicast with unicast, the ways to group the unicast channels together are important so that clients can share the multicast transmission channels. This paper proposes a hybrid video-on-demand system which gathers the unicast channels in new ways and shares multicast transmission channels efficiently by using dynamic channel allocation architecture. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed architecture in some case achieves performance gain of $551{\%}$ compared to existing architecture. This paper presents procedure of channel release and reuse, performance analysis, and simulation results of the dynamic channel allocation architecture.
