The experimental study on flow characteristic in various laminar coflow diffusion flame has been conducted with a particular focus on the buoyancy force exerted from gaseous hydrocarbon fuels. Methane ($CH_4$), Ethylene ($C_2H_4$) and n-Butane ($C_4H_{10}$) were used as fuels. Coflow burner and Schlieren technique were used to observe the fuel flow field near nozzle exit and flow characteristics in flames. The result showed that the vortices in n-Butane with density heavier than air were appeared near the nozzle exit with the strong negative buoyancy on the fuel stream. As Reynolds number increases by the control of velocity, the vortices were greater and the vortices tips were moved up from the nozzle exit. In addition, it can be found that the heated nozzle can affect to the flow fields of fuel stream near the nozzle exit.

The nozzle-flapper valves are widely applied as a pilot stage in aerospace and military system. A subject of the analysis presented in this work is to find out a reasonable range of null clearance between the nozzle and flapper. This paper has presented a numerical flow coefficient simulation. In every design point, a parameterized model is created for flow coefficient simulation and cavitation under different conditions with varying gap width and inlet pressure. Moreover, a new test device has been designed to measure the flow coefficient and for visualized cavitation. The numerical simulation and test results both indicate that cavitation intensity gets fierce initially and shrinks finally as the gap width varies from small to large. From the curve, the flow coefficient mostly has experienced three stages: linear throttle section, transition section and saturation section. The appropriate deflection of flapper is recommended to make the gap width drop into the linear throttle section. The flapper-nozzle null clearance is optionally recommended near the range of $D_N/16$. Finally through simulation it is also concluded that the inlet pressure plays a little role in the influence on the flow coefficient.

Hysteresis phenomena in fluid flow systems are frequently encountered in many industrial and engineering applications and mainly appear during the transient processes of change of the pressure ratio. Shock-containing flow field in supersonic nozzles is typically subject to such hysteresis phenomena, but associated flow physics is not yet understood well. In the present study, experimental work has been carried out to investigate supersonic nozzle flows during the transient processes of change in the nozzle pressure ratio. Time-dependent surface wall pressures were measured by a multiple of pressure transducers and the flow field was visualized using a nano-spark Schlieren optical method. The results obtained show that the hysteresis phenomenon is strongly dependent on the nozzle geometry as well as the time scale of the change of pressure ratio.

Small hydropower is a reliable energy technology to be considered for providing clean electricity generation. Producing electrical energy by small hydropower is the most efficient contribution to renewable energy. Cross-flow turbine is adopted primarily because of its simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of inlet nozzle shape on the performance and internal flow of a cross-flow turbine for small hydropower by CFD analysis. Moreover, the shape effect of draft tube has been investigated according to modified shapes of the length and the diffuse angle. The results show that relatively narrow and converging inlet nozzle shape gives better effect on the performance of the turbine.

Measurement uncertainty should be evaluated according to ISO/IEC 17025. In Flow measurement area, uncertainty evaluation scheme was applied to the reference flow meter, sonic nozzle. Uncertainty was calculated by evaluating various uncertainty factors affected in flow measurement. The expanded uncertainty(U) of the sonic nozzle was 2.1$\times$ 10$^{-3}$ (confidence level of 95 %). This evaluation example will be useful in flow measurement uncertainty determination of other flow meters.

The emission characteristics of a semi-Bunsen type burner for gas boilers were studied experimentally. The experimental results reveal that nitric oxide emission increases with fuel flow rate. It is linearly proportional to total fue flow rate at a small amount of fuel up to 0.4 liters per minute. It does not change significantly within the range of fuel flow rate from 0.4 to 1.2 liters per minute per nozzle and increases at large fuel flow rate. The carbon monoxide emission reveals to be dependent upon the fuel flow rate per each nozzle and the number of fuel injection nozzles. Diameter of an injection nozzle could have an effect on the emission characteristics of this type of burners. However, there is no marked change in the nitric oxide emission if the total fuel flow rate is same with different nozzle sizes.

When high-pressure gas is exhausted through nozzle exit to the atmosphere, expanded supersonic jet is formed with the Mach disk at a specific condition. In two-dimensional supersonic jets, the hysteresis phenomenon of the reflected shock waves is found to occur under quasi-steady flow conditions. Transitional pressure ratio between the regular reflection and Mach reflection in the jet is affected by this phenomenon. In the present study, experiments are carried out on internal flow in a supersonic nozzle to clarify the hysteresis phenomena for the shock waves and to discuss its interdependence on the rate of the change of pressure ratio with time. Flow visualization is carried out separately on the straight and divergent channels downstream of the nozzle throat section. The influence that the hysteresis phenomena have on the location of shock wave in a supersonic nozzle is also investigated experimentally.
The program using $C/C^{++}$ which could calculate 3-D velocities from data of the flowfield obtained by a slant hot-wire has been developed. The characteristic of the exit flowfield of a circular nozzle with a curved surface was investigated. From the result, the inward-flow was verified at adjacent layers near the boundary of the exit flowfield of a circular nozzle in Id and outward-flow was sensed gradually from down-flow of Id. Similarity of the nondimensional velocity profile properlly could be obtained except near Id and the virtual origin reasonably could be obtained.

A present study is the flow characteristics of impinging jet by PIV measurement and numerical analysis. The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozzle inlet velocity. An circular sharp edged nozzle type($45^{\circ}$) was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozzle inlet, and its diameter is 10mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet can be changed largely by the control of main flow. In this parent study, we investigate the effects of inlet velocity, its variable is nozzle inlet Reynolds numbers(Re=1500m 3000, 4500, 6000 and 7500)
The advantages of the SITVC(secondary injection thrust vector control) technique over mechanical thrust vector systems include a reduction in both the nozzle weight and complexity due to the elimination of the mechanical actuators that are used in conventional vectoring. Computational study is performed to understand the fluidic thrust vectoring control of an axisymmetric nozzle, in which secondary gas injection is made in the divergent section of the nozzle. The nozzle has a design mach number 3. The effect of injection hole number and shape of secondary jet on the mach number distribution of SITVC were investigated. The standard ${\kappa}$ - ${\epsilon}$ turbulence model solved the complex three-dimensional nozzle flows perturbed by the secondary gas jet. The numerical code was validated by experiment. The results showed that the mach number distribution of circular and square nozzle are similar each other. As number of second injection hole increasing, a effect of deflection was decreased.
