An Investigation on the Spray Characteristics of DME with Variation of Nozzle Holes Diameter using the Common Rail Fuel Injection System (인젝터 노즐 홀 직경의 변화에 따른 DME 커먼레일 연료 분사 시스템의 분무 특성에 관한 연구 II)

  • DME spray characteristics were investigated about varied ambient pressure and fuel injection pressure using the DME common rail fuel injection system when the nozzle holes diameter is varied. The common rail fuel injection system with DME cooling system was used since DME has properties of compressibility and vaporization in atmospheric temperature. The fuel injection quantity and spray characteristics were measured. The spray analysis parameters were spray shape, penetration length, and spray angle at six nozzle holes. Three types of injector were used, the nozzle holes diameter were 0.166 mm (Injector 1), 0.250 mm (Injector 2), and 0.250 mm with enlargement of orifice hole from 0.6 mm to 1.0 mm (Injector 3). The fuel injection pressure was varied by 5MPa from 35 to 70MPa when the ambient pressure was varied 0, 2.5, and 5MPa. When using Injector 3 in comparison to the others, the DME injection quantity was increased 1.69 ~ 2.02 times. Through this, it had the similar low heat value with diesel which was injected Injector 1. Among three types of injector, Injector 3 had the fastest development velocity of penetration length. In case of spray angle, Injector 2 had the largest spray angle. Through these results, only the way enlargement the nozzle holes diameter is not the solution of DME low heat value problem.

  • To develope the high speed gas cutting tip, consists of 3 pieces, supersonic axisymmetric jets issuing from various kinds of nozzles with a throat diameter of a few milimeters were experimentally investigated. The nozzle inlet pressure was varied from 4 to 8 kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The parameters in nozzle design were throat diameter, throat length, taper angle, outlet diameter. The total pressure variation was measured by the pilot tube, 0.5mm outer diameter, along the center of the free stream jet. Also color Shilieren system was used to visualize the flowfield.

  • This study describes the external spray characteristics of deflector nozzle such as the breakup procedures of liquid sheet, spray angle, discharge coefficient and bubble behaviors of spray and SMD at deflector nozzle. In order to visualize the spray behaviors shadow graphy technique were used. According to the increase of injection pressure, development of the spray passes through the dribbling, distoted jet, closed bubble due to the contraction by surface tension forces, the bubble opens into hollow tulip shape, and the curved surface straightened to form a conical sheet like as the simplex swirl atomizer. Spray cone angle was nearly 90 deg. Variations of SMD were examined in order to describe the dependency of SMD on the injection pressure and orifice diameter. The shape of deflector and oriffice diameter had an effect on the discharge coefficient.

  • It is the aim of this study to investigate the influence of the factors in the sprayer nozzle for the travelling distance and to get nozzle design data in relation to the nozz1e with and without swirl plate. The factors of sprayer nozzle are composed of the spraying pressure, the helical angle of swirl plate, the helical groove depth of swirl plate, the distance of vortex chamber the slope of nozz1e cap, the curvature of nozzle cap and the hole diameter of nozz1e cap. The travelling distance and the size of sprayed particle are experimeted indoors by the factorial arrange-ment according to the 5 each level of the above factors. The results of this stupy are summarized as follows; 1. In the nozzle with swirl p1ate there were remarkable significance among factors each other, while without swirl plate were no significance. 2. The helical angle and groove depth in the nozzle with swirl plate were the highest effective factors. The effect of helical angle was very remarked in the quadratic curve with minium value. 3. The correlation betweenthe travelling distance and the sprayed particle size was no high and under 250 micron in the case with swirl plate, and there was higher correlation in the case without swirl plate. 4. The new ideal development of the swirl plate using of the most effective helical angle and groove depth will probably show the possiblities to make effective travelling distance over 8 meters and more over and to make average particle diameter under 300 micron.

The Effect of Valve Geometry Variation on Injection Characteristics of Injection Valve for Marine Diesel Engines (선박디젤기관용 분사밸브의 형상변화가 분사특성에 미치는 영향에 관한 계산적 고찰)

  • Injection technology is one of the important technologies in a diesel engine. Many studies have done on the injection system. In this study, the fuel chamber geometry, the orifice ratio and the needle lift of the injection valve for a marine diesel engine are varied, and simulated. The result shows that the nozzle hole size has influence on the rail pressure and injection duration sensitively. The decrease of the static pressure at the nozzle hole entrance and the increase of the dynamic pressure on the outlet surface are occurred with the increase of the nozzle hole diameter. The highest dynamic pressure of the outlet was occurred at the needle lift of 0.4mm and the nozzle hole diameter of 0.328mm in this test nozzle.

  • An ejector is a kind of pump which is using pressure energy of high pressure fluid. This study aims to investigate performance influencing according to change the ejector mixing section shape using CFD simulation by Finite Volume Method. Optimum conditions were suggested 3 kind of variable such as nozzle diameter, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet. The results, It was confirmed that the diameter of the nozzle was the greatest effect in performance of the ejector. The diameter of the nozzle get smaller, mixing ratio was increased. On the other hand, nozzle length, distance from nozzle tip to the diffuser inlet had little effect on performance. It was proposed specific Mixing section, Nozzel diameter 23.8mm using the Artificial Neural Network.

Factors influencing on the discharge coefficients of sonic nozzle (소닉노즐의 유출계수에 영향을 미치는 인자에 관한 연구)

  • Accuracy of gas flow measurements using sonic nozzle and factors which influence on the discharge coefficients of sonic nozzle are investigated with high pressure gas flow standard measurement system. The gas flow measurement system comprises two compressors, storage tank, temperature control loop, sonic nozzle test section, weighing tank, gyroscopic scale and data acquisition system. The experiments are performed at various nozzle throat diameter and inlet pressure. Overall uncertainty of discharge coefficients is estimated to less than .+-.0.2% and most of experimental data fall into this range. Dependence of discharge coefficients on the Reynolds number is good agreement with those suggested in ISO document. The influence of swirl on the discharge coefficients becomes greater as the nozzle throat diameter is enlarged. The discharge coefficient of conical nozzle shows about 4.5% lower discharge coefficients than those of toroidal nozzle, but variation trend with Reynolds number is very similar each other and reproducibility of data is very good.

  • Experiments have been carried out to study the atomisation characteristics of superheated liquid(water) jet injected into the atmosphere through a single-hole nozzle. In present experi-mental range, superheated liquid jet has been observed to be atomised in two-phase effluent type; that is, spray formed by the bubble nucleation in the nozzle. In case of liquid injection through a long nozzle (L/D=29.09), the critical superheat for occurrence of two-phase effluent atomisa-tion can be determined from sudden change of spray angle. Sauter mean diameter of the spray droplets decreases as the degree of superheat increases. For the short nozzle (L/D=7.27), mean diameter increases with the injection pressure, while it decreases for the long nozzle; however for the long nozzle the effect of injection pressure is not significant compared with the short nozzle. For the short nozzle the uniformity of drop size distribution increases with increasing the degree of superheat, but for the long nozzle the effect of superheat on the uniformity is not appreciable.

Atomization Characteristics of Intermittent Multi-Hole Diesel Spray Using Time-Resolved PDPA Data

  • The intermittent spray characteristics of a multi-hole diesel nozzle with a 2-spring nozzle holder were investigated experimentally. Without changing the total orifice exit area, the hole number of the multi-hole nozzle varied from 3 (d$\_$n/=0.42 mm) to 5 (d$\_$n/=0.32 mm). The time-resolved droplet diameters of the spray including the SMD (Saute. mean diameter) and the AMD (arithmetic mean diameter), injected intormittently from the multi-hole nozzles into still ambient ai., were measured by using a 2-D PDPA (phase Doppler particle analyze.). The 5-hole nozzle spray shows the smaller spray cone angle, the decreased SMD distributions and the small difference between the SMD and the AMD, compared with that of the 3-hole nozzle spray. From the SMD distributions with the radial distance, the spray structure can be classified into the three regions : (a) the inner region showing the high SMD distribution , (b) the mixing flow region where the shea. flow structure would be constructed : and (c) the outer region formed through the disintegration processes of the spray inner region and composed of fine droplets. Through the SMD distributions along the spray centerline, it reveals that the SMD decreases rapidly after showing the maximum value in the vicinity of the nozzle tip. The SMD remains the constant value near the Z/d$\_$n/=166 and 156.3 for the 3-hole and 5-hole nozzles, which illustrate that the disintegration processes of the 5-hole nozzle spray proceed more rapidly than that of the 3-hole nozzle spray.

Numerical Study on Flow Distribution of Fuel Nozzles for a Combustor in a Micro Gas Turbine (마이크로 가스 터빈용 연소기의 연료 노즐의 유량 분배에 관한 수치 해석적 연구)

  • Flow distribution of fuel nozzles for a combustor in a micro gas turbine is numerically investigated. The fuel supply system for the present study has 12 single nozzles with a diameter of several hundred micrometers. A uniform temperature distribution of a combustor outlet should be achieved for maximizing the lives of the turbine blades and nozzle guide vanes. For this, it is very important to uniformly supply fuel to a combustor. In order to investigate flow distributions of fuel nozzles, numerical models for fuel nozzles are made and solved by a commercial code, ANSYS FLUENT. An effect of a fuel nozzle diameter and fuel flow rates on flow distribution of fuel nozzles is numerically investigated. As a result, non-uniformity is increasing as a diameter of a single fuel nozzle increases. Finally, an appropriate diameter of a single fuel nozzle is suggested.
