The modelling of some different types of switchgears has been reported in the previous papers. This paper consists of two parts. The first part concerns the modelling and simulation of switching arcs with an auto-expansion circuit breaker as an example. The second part focuses on the simulation of the PTFE nozzle ablation effect with three different nozzle shapes. For circuit breakers, the modelling of moving contact and the choice of time steps are discussed before typical results are given and compared with available test result.
The multi-phase flow analysis in a solid rocket motor is very important when performing the performance of a motor, and prediction of nozzle ablation. However, only in consideration of regular power, it has analyzed as power which a metal particle receives from a flow until now. We conduct analysis and an experiment about the virtual mass clause which will influence at the place where acceleration is big. We aim at the improvement in accuracy of multi-phase flow analysis from the result.
In our study, the PTFE nozzle ablation in the high-voltage self-blast type $SF_6$ gas circuit breaker was investigated. The test circuit breaker has the structure that the pin electrode is moving and the pressure reservoir volume and the dimension is almost same as commercial 145kv 40kA circuit breaker for similar result in real circuit breaker. The variation of current and arcing time was the range of $36kA_{rms}$(symmetry) - $40kA_{rms}$(asymmetry) and 10-16 ms. From the measured data the tendecy of the mass loss of the nozzle to current load and arc energy was estimated. In this process, the distance from the arc to nozzle(PTFE) surface, area which was exposed to arc and stroke contour was considered. These results will be used to enhance the accuracy of the computational fluid dynamics analysis in circuit breaker and estimate the residual life time of a circuit breaker.
A study on the arc resistance and light reflectance of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) nozzle for circuit breaker is presented. PTFE has been used widely as a material for circuit breaker nozzle. PTFE has excellent electrical resistivity, high melt viscosity, chemical inertness, heat resistance and low loss factor. PTFE melts at $327\;^{\circ}C$ but the viscosity is very high above the melting point. In the arcing environment in a circuit breaker, the fraction of the power is emitted out of the arc and reaches the nozzle wall by radiation, causing ablation at the surface and in the depth of the wall. Some fraction of the radiation power emitted out of the arc directly break up the chemical bonds at the surface while some fraction of the radiation power penetrates into the wall, heats up the material to evaporation temperature and causes damages deeper inside the volume of the nozzle. In this paper, some fillers that have endurance in the high temperature arc environment were added into PTFE. Adding some fillers into PTFE was expected to be efficient in improving the endurability against radiation. The light reflectance and arc resistance of PTFE composites were investigated.
This paper presents the electrical properties of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) nozzle for circuit breaker. PTFE has been used widely as a nozzle material for circuit breaker. In the arcing environment in a circuit breaker, radiation is considered to be the major energy transport mechanism from the arc to the wall. The fraction of the radiation power is emitted out of the arc and reaches the nozzle wall, causing ablation at the surface and in the depth of the wall. The energy concentration in the material lead to the depolymerization and eventually lead to the generation of decomposed gas as well as some isolated carbon particles. The generation of the decomposed gas in the depth of the material causes inner explosion. The surface of nozzle becomes uneven. The flow of gas is not uniform due to the unevenness of the surface. Adding some fillers into PTFE is expected to be efficient for improving the endurability against radiation. In this experiment, three kinds of fillers that have endurance in the high temperature environment were added into PTFE. Dielectric constant, dissipation factor, electrical resistivity and dielectric strength of PTFE composites were investigated.
고체 및 액체 로켓 추진 기관 내열부품으로 사용하기 위하여 C/SiC 복합 재료를 LSI(Liquid Silicon Infiltration) 공법으로 개발하였다.

VESTA (Verification of Ex-vessel corium STAbilization) and VESTA-S (-small) test facilities were constructed at the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute in 2010 to perform various corium melt experiments. Since then, several tests have been performed for the verification of an ex-vessel core catcher design for the EU-APR1400. Ablation tests of an impinging $ZrO_2$ melt jet on a sacrificial material were performed to investigate the ablation characteristics. $ZrO_2$ melt in an amount of 65-70 kg was discharged onto a sacrificial material through a well-designed nozzle, after which the ablation depths were measured. Interaction tests between the metallic melt and sacrificial material were performed to investigate the interaction kinetics of the sacrificial material. Two types of melt were used: one is a metallic corium melt with Fe 46%, U 31%, Zr 16%, and Cr 7% (maximum possible content of U and Zr for C-40), and the other is a stainless steel (SUS304) melt. Metallic melt in an amount of 1.5-2.0 kg was delivered onto the sacrificial material, and the ablation depths were measured. Penetration tube failure tests were performed for an APR1400 equipped with 61 in-core instrumentation penetration nozzles and extended tubes at the reactor lower vessel. $ZrO_2$ melt was generated in a melting crucible and delivered down into an interaction crucible where the test specimen is installed. To evaluate the tube ejection mechanism, temperature distributions of the reactor bottom head and in-core instrumentation penetration were measured by a series of thermocouples embedded along the specimen. In addition, lower vessel failure tests for the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant are being performed. As a first step, the configuration of the molten core in the plant was investigated by a melting and solidification experiment. Approximately 5 kg of a mixture, whose composition in terms of weight is $UO_2$ 60%, Zr 10%, $ZrO_2$ 15%, SUS304 14%, and $B_4C$ 1%, was melted in a cold crucible using an induction heating technique.
This paper presents the performance analysis results of a short line fault interruption of a gas circuit breaker, particularly a self-blast type breaker. Hot gas flow analysis was carried out using a CFD calculation combined with the arc model and nozzle ablation model. To evaluate the interruption performance, the index function was defined using the pressure in the heating chamber and the density above the arc region. The simulation and test results showed that the gas flow field and suitable choice of an interruption performance index can be used to predict the interruption characteristics and provide guidelines for designing self-blast breakers with a higher interruption capability.
