A poled lead zirconate titanate (PZT) cube specimen that is switched by an electric field at room temperature is subject to temperature increase. Changes in polarization and thermal expansion coefficients are measured during temperature rise. The measured data are analyzed to obtain changes in pyroelectric coefficient and strain during temperature change. Empirical formulae are developed using linear or quadratic curve fitting to the data. The nonlinear behavior of the materials during temperature increase is predicted using the developed formulae. It is shown that the calculation results can be compared successfully with the measured values, which proves the accuracy and reliability of the developed formulae for the nonlinear behavior of the materials during temperature changes.

A Shadow mask in C. R. T. (Cathod Ray Tube) undergoes a temperature increase due to impinging electron beams emitted from guns, and thermal deformation from such temperature rise may cause the electron beams to island on the panel, and thus give rise to depolarization. Hence the analysis of temperature distribution for a shadow mask is an important procedure for designing the shadow mask. In this paper, we are concerned with nonlinear finite element analysis of the temperature distribution on a shadow mask. First of all, we replace shadow mask, containing numerous apertures of a slit type, by an orthotropic shell without apertures, and calculate the apparent thermal conductivities. Because of thermal radiation, which is one of the major heat transfer mechanism for shadow masks, the resulting finite element equation is nonlinear and solved by the Newton method. Finally numerical examples are illustrated for a 21" FST(Full Square Tube) shadow mask, and followed by discussion.sion.

The present study employs weak shock theory and bio-heat transfer function to predict the temperature rise due to nonlinear propagation of high amplitude ultrasound. The theory shows that, for the focused ultrasound which is assumed to have an gaussian beam profile and has the focal intensity of $1000W/cm^2$, the temperature rise of liver tissue exposed for 1 second to the energy lost during nonlinear propagation goes up to about $30^{\circ}C$. This indicate that it is necessary to consider the nonlinear propagation induced heating enhancement when setting exposure condition of high intensity focused ultrasound used for cancer thermotherapy.

Thermal buckling of functionally graded sandwich cylindrical shells is presented in this study. Material properties and thermal expansion coefficient of FGM layers are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness according to a sigmoid function and simple power-law distribution in terms of the volume fractions of the constituents. Equilibrium and stability equations of FGM sandwich cylindrical shells with simply supported boundary conditions are derived according to the Donnell theory. The influences of cylindrical shell geometry and the gradient index on the critical buckling temperature of several kinds of FGM sandwich cylindrical shells are investigated. The thermal loads are assumed to be uniform, linear and nonlinear distribution across the thickness direction. An exact simple form of nonlinear temperature rise through its thickness taking into account the thermal conductivity and the inhomogeneity parameter is presented.

Post-buckling behavior of Timoshenko beams subjected to uniform temperature rising with temperature dependent physical properties are studied in this paper by using the total Lagrangian Timoshenko beam element approximation. The beam is clamped at both ends. In the case of beams with immovable ends, temperature rise causes compressible forces end therefore buckling and post-buckling phenomena occurs. It is known that post-buckling problems are geometrically nonlinear problems. Also, the material properties (Young's modulus, coefficient of thermal expansion, yield stress) are temperature dependent: That is the coefficients of the governing equations are not constant in this study. This situation suggests the physical nonlinearity of the problem. Hence, the considered problem is both geometrically and physically nonlinear. The considered highly non-linear problem is solved considering full geometric non-linearity by using incremental displacement-based finite element method in conjunction with Newton-Raphson iteration method. The beams considered in numerical examples are made of Austenitic Stainless Steel (316). The convergence studies are made. In this study, the difference between temperature dependent and independent physical properties are investigated in detail in post-buckling case. The relationships between deflections, thermal post-buckling configuration, critical buckling temperature, maximum stresses of the beams and temperature rising are illustrated in detail in post-buckling case.

Studying the dynamic behavior of axially moving cylindrical shells in hygro-thermal environments has important theoretical and engineering value for aircraft design. Therefore, in this paper, considering hygro-thermal effect, the nonlinear forced vibration of an axially moving cylindrical shell made of functionally graded materials (FGM) is studied. It is assumed that the material properties vary continuously along the thickness and contain pores. The Donnell thin shell theory is used to derive the motion equations of FGM cylindrical shells with hygro-thermal loads. Under the four sides clamped (CCCC) boundary conditions, the Gallekin method and multi-scale method are used for nonlinear analysis. The effects of power law index, porosity coefficient, temperature rise, moisture concentration, axial velocity, prestress, damping and external excitation amplitude on nonlinear forced vibration are explored through parametric research. It can be found that, the changes in temperature and humidity have a significant effect. Increasing in temperature and humidity will cause the resonance position to shift to the left and increase the resonance amplitude.

In the current research, the nonlinear free vibrations of curved pipes made of functionally graded (FG) carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) materials are investigated. It is assumed that the FG-CNTRC curved pipe is supported on a three-parameter nonlinear elastic foundation and is subjected to a uniform temperature rise. Properties of the curved nanocomposite pipe are distributed across the radius of the pipe and are given by means of a refined rule of mixtures approach. It is also assumed that all thermomechanical properties of the nanocomposite pipe are temperature-dependent. The governing equations of the curved pipe are obtained using a higher order shear deformation theory, where the traction free boundary conditions are satisfied on the top and bottom surfaces of the pipe. The von Kármán type of geometrical non-linearity is included into the formulation to consider the large deflection in the curved nanocomposite pipe. For the case of nanocomposite curved pipes which are simply supported in flexure and axially immovable, the motion equations are solved using the two-step perturbation technique. The closed-form expressions are provided to obtain the small- and large-amplitude frequencies of FG-CNTRC curved pipes rested on a nonlinear elastic foundation in thermal environment. Numerical results are given to explore the effects of CNT distribution pattern, the CNT volume fraction, thermal environment, nonlinear foundation stiffness, and geometrical parameters on the fundamental linear and nonlinear frequencies of the curved nanocomposite pipe.

In this study the optimization of plate-fin type heat sink for the thermal stability is performed numerically. The optimum design variables are obtained when the temperature rise and the pressure drop are minimized simultaneously. The flow and thermal fields are predicted using the finite volume method and the optimization is carried out by using the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method which is widely used in the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The results show that when the temperature rise is less than 34.6 K, the optimal design variables are as follows; $B_{1}$ = 2.468 mm, $B_{2}$ = 1.365 mm, and t = 10.962 mm. The Pareto optimal solutions are also presented for the pressure drop and the temperature rise.

In this study the optimization of plate-fin type heat sink with vortex generator for the thermal stability is performed numerically. The optimum solutions in the heat sink are obtained when the temperature rise and the pressure drop are minimized simultaneously. Thermal performance of heat sink is influenced by the heat sink shape such as the base-part fin width, lower-part fin width, and basement thickness. To acquire the optimal design variables automatically, CFD and mathematical optimization are integrated. The flow and thermal fields are predicted using the finite volume method. The optimization is carried out by means of the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method which is widely used for the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The results show that the optimal design variables are as follows; B$_1$=2.584 mm, B$_2$=1.741 mm, and t=7.914 mm when the temperature rise is less than 40 K. Comparing with the initial design, the temperature rise is reduced by 4.2 K, while the pressure drop is increased by 9.43 Pa. The relationship between the pressure drop and the temperature rise is also presented to select the heat sink shape for the designers.

Digital variable structure controller(DVSC) is implemented to control the temperature for the hot water heating circulating pump control system. For the DVSC, a control algorithm is suggested, which using a nonlinear sliding surface and a PID sliding surface outside and inside of steady state error boundary layer, respectively. Smith predictor algorithm is used for the compensation of long dead time. The DVSC of the suggested algorithm yields improved control performance compared with the one of existing algorithm. The system responses with the suggested DVSC shows good responses without overshoot and steady state error inspite of heating load change. By decreasing sampling time, dead time and rise time are increasing, and system output noise by flow dynamics is amplified.
