  • The self-excited oscillation is the phenomenon which can be observed in the systems composed of nonlinear elements. The phenomenon is of fundamental importance in nonlinear systems and, as far as the design of a nonlinear system is concerned, it should be considered along with the stability analysis. In this paper, the oscillation of a system controlled by a static nonlinear fuzzy controller is theoretically addressed. First, the describing functionof a static fuzzy controller is derived and then, based on the derived describing function, self-excited oscillation of the system controlled by a static fuzzy controller is predicted. To obtain the describing function of the static fuzzy controller, a simple struture is assumed for the fuzzy controller. Finally, computer simulation is included to show an example where the describing function given in the paper is used to predict the self-excited oscillation of a fuzzy-control system.

  • A lot of industrial chemical processes contain certain input nonlinearities even though they are controlled by several linear controllers. Here we investigate a sequential loop closing identification method for MIMO Hammerstein nonlinear processes with diagonal nonlinearities. The proposed method separates the identification of the nonlinear static function from that of the linear subsystem by using a relay feedback test and a triangular type signal test. From 2 n activations for n n MIMO nonlinear processes, we sequentially identify the whole range of the nonlinear static function as well as the transfer function matrix of the linear subsystem.

  • The nonlinearity of several chemical processes is usually approximated by a series of the nonlinear static element and the linear subsystem. In the case of the model that the nonlinear static element precedes the linear subsystem, it is called a Hammerstein model. It is a Wiener model when the order is reserved. Here we investigate a relay feedback identification method for Hammerstein type nonlinear processes. The proposed method separates the identification of the nonlinear static function from that of the linear subsystem by using a relay feedback method. From two times activation of nonlinear processes, we identify he whole range of the nonlinear static function as well as the ultimate information of the linear subsystem.

  • We address a novel approach to identify a nonlinear dynamic system for Wiener models, which are composed of a linear dynamic system part followed by a nonlinear static part. The aim of system identification here is to provide the optimal mathematical model of both the linear dynamic and the nonlinear static parts in some appropriate sense. Assuming the nonlinear static part is invertible, we approximate the inverse function by a piecewise linear function. We estimate the piecewise linear inverse function by using the evolutionary computation approach such as genetic algorithm (GA) and evolution strategies (ES), while we estimate the linear dynamic system part by the least squares method. The results of numerical simulation studies indicate the usefulness of proposed approach to the Wiener model identification.

Dynamic Increase factor based on residual strength to assess progressive collapse

  • In this study, a new empirical method is presented to obtain Dynamic Increase Factor (DIF) in nonlinear static analysis of structures against sudden removal of a gravity load-bearing element. In this method, DIF is defined as a function of minimum ratio of difference between maximum moment capacity ($M_u$) and moment demand ($M_d$) to plastic moment capacity ($M_p$) under unamplified gravity loads of elements. This function determines the residual strength of a damaged building before amplified gravity loads. For each column removal location, a nonlinear dynamic analysis and a step-by-step nonlinear static analysis are carried out and the modified empirical DIF formulas are derived, which correspond to the ratio min $[(M_u-M_d)/M_p]$ of beams in the bays immediately adjacent to the removed column, and at all floors above it. Therefore, the new DIF can be used with nonlinear static analysis instead of nonlinear dynamic analysis to assess the progressive collapse potential of a moment frame structure. The proposed DIF formulas can estimate the real residual strength of a structure based on critical member.

  • We consider an unknown linear time invariant plan with static load disturbance. A saturation function nonlinear element is sued to find th one point information in the frequency domain. We analyze an asymmetric self-oscillation caused by static load disturbance with relay feedback and saturation function feedback. We propose a new method to tune a PID controller using a saturation nonlinear feedback element in the presence of asymmetric oscillation. The proposed method does not require the knowledge of plant d.c. gain with an asymmetric oscillation in the plat output.

Nonlinear Aeroelastic Analysis of a High-Aspect-Ratio Wing with Large Deflection Effects

  • In this study, nonlinear static and dynamic aeroelastic analyses for a high-aspect-ratio wing have been performed. To achieve these aims, the transonic small disturbance (TSD) theory for the aerodynamic analysis and the large deflection beam theory considering a geometrical nonlinearity for the structural analysis are applied, respectively. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of a displacement from the structural mesh to the aerodynamic grid is performed by a shape function which is used for the finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load method. To validate the current method, the present analysis results of a high-aspect-ratio wing are compared with the experimental results. Static deformations in the vertical and torsional directions caused by an angle of attack and gravity loading are compared with experimental results. Also, static and dynamic aeroelastic characteristics are investigated. The comparisons of the flutter speed and frequency between a linear and nonlinear analysis are presented.

구조적인 제약을 갖는 정적 출력 되먹임 안정화 제어기 (Structured Static Output Feedback Stabilization)

  • 본 연구에서는 정적 출력 되먹임 제어기를 구하기 위한 비선형 행렬 부등식 조건과 비선형 최적화 문제를 제안한다. 제안된 최적화 문제는 선형 행렬부등식 제약 조건과 비선형 목적함수를 가지며, 구조적인 제약이 있는 제어기 설계에도 적용할 수 있음을 보인다. 비선형 목적함수를 선형화시키고, 선형화된 최적화 문제를 반복적으로 푸는 방법으로 제안된 비선형 최적화 문제를 풀어 정적 출력 되먹임 제어기를 구할 수 있다. 제안된 방법을 실제 문제에 적용하여 그 유효성을 보인다.

  • Nonlinear Response Optimization using Equivalent Static Loads (NROESL) method/algorithm is proposed to perform optimization of non-linear response structures. It is more expensive to carry out nonlinear response optimization than linear response optimization. The conventional method spends most of the total design time on nonlinear analysis. Thus, the NROESL algorithm makes the equivalent static load cases for each response and repeatedly performs linear response optimization and uses them as multiple loading conditions. The equivalent static loads are defined as the loads in the linear analysis, which generates the same response field as those in non-linear analysis. The algorithm is validated for the convergence and the optimality. The function satisfies the descent condition at each cycle and the NROESL algorithm converges. It is mathematically validated that the solution of the algorithm satisfies the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker necessary condition of the original nonlinear response optimization problem. The NROESL algorithm is applied to two structural problems. Conventional optimization with sensitivity analysis using the finite difference method is also applied to the same examples. The results of the optimizations are compared. The proposed method is very efficient and derives good solutions.
