Verification and validation of ShipMo3D ship motion predictions in the time and frequency domains

  • This paper compares frequency domain and time domain predictions from the ShipMo3D ship motion library with observed motions from model tests and sea trials. ShipMo3D evaluates hull radiation and diffraction forces using the frequency domain Green function for zero forward speed, which is a suitable approach for ships travelling at moderate speed (e.g., Froude numbers up to 0.4). Numerical predictions give generally good agreement with experiments. Frequency domain and linear time domain predictions are almost identical. Evaluation of nonlinear buoyancy and incident wave forces using the instantaneous wetted hull surface gives no improvement in numerical predictions. Consistent prediction of roll motions remains a challenge for seakeeping codes due to the associated viscous effects.

  • We have demonstrated a highly efficient cladding-pumped ytterbium-doped fiber laser, generating $>$2.1 kW of continuous-wave output power at 1.1 μm with 74% slope efficiency with respect to launched pump power. The beam quality factor ($M^2$) was better than 1.2. The maximum output power was only limited by available pump power, showing no evidence of roll-over even at the highest output power. We present data on how the beam quality depends on the fiber parameter, based on our current and past fiber laser developments. We also discuss the ultimate power-capability of our fiber in terms of thermal management, Raman nonlinear scattering, and material damage, and estimate it to 10 kW.

강인한 상태추정에 의한 전달정렬의 선체유연성오차 보상 (Ship Flexure Error Compensation of Transfer Alignment via Robust State Estimation)

  • This paper deals with the transfer alignment problem of SDINS(StrapDown Inertial Navigation System) subjected to roll and pitch motions of the ship. In order to reduce alignment errors induced by ship body flexure, a linearized error model for the velocity and attitude matching transfer alignment system is first derived by linearizing the nonlinear measurement equation with respect to the dominant y axis component and defining the flexure state of random constant type. And then a robust state estimation scheme is introduced to account for modeling uncertainty of the flexure. By interpreting the simulation results and comparing with the velocity and DCM(Direction Cosine Matrix) partial matching method, it is shown that the proposed method is effective enough to improve the azimuth alignment performance.

  • A virtual reality technology for multipurpose numerical simulation is developed to reproduce and investigate a variety of ocean environmental problems in a 3D-Numerical Wave Tank. The governing equations for solving incompressible fluid motion are Navier-Stokes equation and continuity equation, and the Marker-Density function technique is adopted to implement the fully-nonlinear free-surface kinematic condition. The marine environmental situations, i.e. waves, currents, wind, etc., are reproduced by use of multi-segmented wavemaker on the basis of the so-called "snake-principle". In this paper, some numerical reproduction techniques for regular and irregular waves, multi-directional waves, Bull's-eye wave, wave-current, and solitary wave are presented, and a model test in motion with large amplitude of roll angle is conducted in the developed 3D-NWT, using a overlaid grid system.

  • A gain-scheduled autopilot design for a bank-to-turn (BTT) missile is developed by using the Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization technique and a state-space lineal interpolation method. The missile dynamics are brought to a quasilinear parameter varying (quasi-LPV) form. Robust linear control design method is used to obtain state feedback controllers for the LPV systems with exogenous disturbances at the frozen values of the scheduling parameters. Two gam-scheduled controllers for the pitch axis and the yaw/roll axis are constructed by linearly interpolating the robust state-feedback gains. The designed controller is applied to a nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom (6-DOF) simulations.

  • This paper addresses details of wave load nonlinearity effect on stress RAO and damage ratio using component stochastic fatigue analysis. Traditional spectral fatigue analysis for ship structure is based on linear theory; however, there are a number of nonlinearity sources. Especially loading nonlinearity, such as hydrodynamic pressure applying to ship side and gravity changes due to roll and pitch motion, is thought to critically violate the linearity assumption of spectral fatigue analysis, which involves stress RAO as linear parameter. The main focus is placed on how to idealize complicated characteristics of loading nonlinearity and how to implement the nonlinear bias to linear spectral fatigue analysis.

  • 전력 및 대역폭 제한적인 디지털 통신 시스템을 위한 새로운 변복조 기술인 8SQAM(8-state Superposed Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) 시스템을 제안한다. 8SQAM은 심볼간 간섭(ISI)이 없으며 인접하는 두 심볼간의 진폭과 위상 사이에 상관관계를 유지함으로써 부드럽고 연속적인 위상천이와 함께 적은 포락선 변동을 갖는 출력신호를 생성한다. 따라서 8SQAM 시스템은 기존의 8PSK와 비교하여 비선형 왜곡에 의한 ISI와 혼변조(IM)에 의한 영향을 적게 받는다. 본 논문에서는 백색 가우시안 잡음 (AWGN)과 ISI 그리고 IM 성분을 갖는 비선형 증폭 채널 환경에서 8SQAM 시스템의 성능을 전산모의 실험을 통해서 분석하였다. 전산모의 실험결과 8SQAM은 고출력증폭기(HPA)의 input back-off(IBO)가 3dB일 때, BER=1$\times$$10^{-4}$ 을 유지하기 위해서 요구되는 CNR 값이 $\alpha$ = 0.25의 roll-off 값을 갖는 8PSK 보다 2.5dB 우수한 성능을 갖는다.

  • 비행 시 외부 조건에 따라 비선형시변 동적특성을 갖는 항공기의 비행제어는 종 제어(longitudinal control)와 횡 제어(lateral control)로 나눌 수 있으며, 종 제어는 승강키(elevator)에 의한 피치(pitch)값, 횡 제어는 에일러론(aileron)에 의한 롤(roll)값과 방향키(rudder)에 의한 요(yaw)값들을 제어대상으로 삼는다. 현재까지 항공기의 안정성, 조종성 그리고 기동성을 보장하기 위한 제어시스템 개발에 많은 연구들이 활발히 진행되어 왔으나, 최근에는 다양하고 복잡한 풍동실험과 환경실험들을 필요로 하는 기존연구들과는 다른 항공기의 지능제어시스템 개발에 관련된 연구들이 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문은 대표적인 지능제어방식인 Interval Type-2 퍼지논리기법에 의한 항공기 종 제어시스템을 제시하고 F-4 제트전투기의 컴퓨터 모의실험을 통해 그 효용성을 입증한다.

안티롤링 진자를 이용한 부유체의 횡동요 저감 (Reducing Ship Rolling with a Anti-Rolling Pendulum)

  • 부유체의 횡동요는 승조원의 피로를 누적시키고, 심지어 구조물 전체를 전복시키기 까지 하고, 또 선체에 반복적인 외력을 가하는 등 부유체의 안정성과 구조물의 안전에 심대한 영향을 끼친다. 그래서 거의 모든 선박의 경우에는 빌지킬을 설치하여 횡동요를 감소시키고 있고, 특수한 경우에는 안티롤링 탱크나 핀 스태빌라이저나 자이로스코프 등을 설치하여 횡동요를 줄이고 있다. 그러나 안티롤링 탱크는 설치하는데 용적을 많이 차지하고, 핀 스태빌라이저나 자이로스코프는 설치비와 유지 관리비가 많이 든다. 본 연구에서는 안티롤링 진자를 이용하여 부유체의 횡동요를 줄이고자 한다. 보통 단진자라고 하면 질량체를 끈으로 어디엔가 고정시켜 놓고 자유롭게 흔들리는 구조를 말한다. 여기에서는 통상의 진자 대신에 진자를 원궤도에 올려놓아서 단진동 운동을 하도록 하는 원리를 이용한다. 제안한 장치를 실험선에 적용하여 그 효능을 입증하였다. 안티롤링 탱크의 약 1/8의 중량과 약 1/6의 용적을 가진 안티롤링 진자를 이용하여 이것보다 더 좋은 효과를 낼 수 있음을 확인하였다. 여기에 더하여 선체에 안티롤링 진자를 부가한 모델의 선형운동방정식과 비선형 운동방정식을 제시하였다.

시간 지연 추정 기법을 이용한 권취기의 장력 제어 알고리즘 (Tension Control of a Winding Machine using Time-delay Estimation)

  • We propose a tension controller based on a time-delay estimation (TDE) technique for a winding machine. Firstly, we perform the necessary calculations to derive a mathematical model of the winding machine. In this sense, it is revealed that the roll radius of the winding machine is characteristically seen to be increasing or decreasing during the winding process. That being said, it is noted that the parameters of the winding machine are coupled and constantly changing during this process. Understandably then, it is noted that the model is shown to be nonlinear and time-varying. Secondly, we propose the way to apply the TDE based controller which is the so-called Time-delay Control (TDC). The TDC utilizes the time-delayed information intentionally to compensate the nonlinear and time-varying characteristics. As we have seen, the proposed controller consists of two parts: one is a TDE component, and the other is an error dynamics component which is defined by a user. In a computer simulation based on the Matlab/Simulink program, the proposed controller is compared with a conventional PID controller, which is widely used in the tension control of the winding machine. The proposed controller reduces the incidence of overshoot and steady-state error in the tension control, as compared to the conventional PID controller.
