In this study, we suggest a tilt rotor aircraft and attempt to apply a nonlinear model matching control method for its maneuver. The proposed method is very simple and useful to construct the control law for the complicated nonlinear system such as aircraft motion.
Relaxed static stability(RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modem version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. Therefore, flight control system are necessary to stabilize an unstable aircraft and provides adequate handling qualities. Also, flight control systems of modem version aircraft employ a safety system to support emergency situations such as a pilot unknown attitude flight conditions of an aircraft in night flight-testing. This situation is dangerous because the aircraft can lose if the pilot not take recognizance of situation. Therefore, automatic recovery system is necessary. The system called the "Pilot Activated Recovery System" or PARS, provided a pilot initiated automatic maneuver capable of an aircraft recoveries in situations of unusual attitudes. This paper addresses the concept of PARS and designed using nonlinear control law design process based on model of supersonic jet trainer. And, this control law is verified by nonlinear analysis and real-time pilot evaluation using in-house software. The result of evaluation reveals that the PARS support recovery of an aircraft unusual attitude and improve a safety of an aircraft.
This paper presents an adaptive neural dynamic surface control (DSC) approach with $H_{\infty}$ tracking performance for a full dynamics of a nonlinear flight system. It is assumed in this paper that model uncertainties such as structured and unstrutured uncertainties and external disturbances influence the nonlinear aircraft model. In our control system, self recurrent wavelet neural networks (SRWNNs) are used to compensate model uncertainties of the nonlinear flight system, and an adaptive DSC technique is extended for disturbance attenuation of the nonlinear flight system. From Lyapunov stability theorem, it is shown that $H_{\infty}$ performance from external disturbances can be obtained. Finally, we perform the simulation for the nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom F-16 aircraft model to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control system.
Relaxed static stability(RSS) concept has been applied to improve aerodynamic performance of modern version supersonic jet fighter aircraft. Therefore, flight control systems are necessary to stabilize an unstable aircraft, and provides adequate handling qualities and achieve performance enhancements. Standard FCSDVP (Flight Control System Design and Verification Process) is provided to reduce development period of the flight control system. In addition, if this process is employed in developing flight control system, it reduces the trial and error for development and verification of flight control system. This paper addresses the flight control system design and verification process for the RSS aircraft utilizing design goal based on military specifications, linear and nonlinear system design and verification based on universal software, handling quality test based on HILS(Hardware In-the-Loop Simulator) environment, and ground and flight test results to verify aircraft dynamic flight responses.
A guidance scheme that is suitable for controlling the aircraft flight path is proposed. The concept of miss distance which is commonly used in the missile guidance laws, and Lyapunov stability theorem are effectively combined to obtain the aircraft's trajectory-tracking guidance law. Guidance commands are given in terms of speed and flight path angles, but they perfectly reflect any position and velocity errors between real aircraft trajectory and reference one. The proposed guidance law is easily integrated into the existing flight control system. The new guidance law was extensively tested with various mission scenarios and the fully nonlinear 6-DOF aircraft model. Furthermore, the new guidance law was compared with previous guidance schemes in nonlinear simulation. Results from the numerical simulation show that the proposed guidance law yields better performance than previous ones.
Recently, aircraft is designed to have high maneuverable at high angle of attack. However, it is very hard to obtain the accurate dynamic model for the high performance, because aerodynamic characteristics are nonlinear and include a lot of uncertainties. Therefore, nonlinear controller without considering uncertainties may degrade the control system performance. On this paper, to overcome these defects, the neural networks based adaptive nonlinear controller is proposed making use of the backstepping technique. Neural networks are implemented to guarantee robustness to uncertainties caused by aerodynamic coefficients variation. The main feature of the proposed controller is that the adaptive controller is developed under the assumption ...
To prevent the critical situation due to the fault in the aircraft sensor system, the fault tolerant system with triple or quadruple redundancy can be made. However, if the faults are occurred in two or more than sensors simultaneously, the conventional fault detection process, such as cross-channel monitoring, may give the wrong fault alarm. For this case, we can detect the fault by estimating the state vector based on the system dynamics model, which is nonlinear for aircraft. In this paper, we propose the unscented Kalman filter to estimate the nonlinear state vector. This filter utilizes the so-called unscented transformation of sigma points featured the statistical characteristics of the random variable. For verification, we perform the simulations for F-16 aircraft with accelerometers, gyros, GPS and air data system.
The purpose of this paper is the application of the techniques for the new estimation of robustness for the aircraft systems having structured uncertainties. The basic ideas to analyze the system which is the originally nonlinear is Lyapunov direct theorems. The nonlinear systems have various forms of terms inside the system equations and this investigation is confined in the form of bounded uncertainties. The number of uncertainties will be the degree of freedoms in the calculation of the robust stability regions called the robustness bounds. This proposition adopts the theoretical analysis of the Lyapunov direct methods, that is, the sign properties of the Lyapunov function derivative integrated along finite intervals of time, in place of the original method of the sign properties of the time derivative of the Lyapunov function itself. This is the new sufficient criteria to relax the stability condition and is used to generate techniques for the robust design of control systems with structured perturbations. Using this relaxing stability conditions, in this paper, the quadratic form of Lyapunov function is utilized. In this paper, the practical system of vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft is analyzed with the proposed stability criteria based upon the Lyapunov direct method. The application of numerical procedures can prove the improvements in estimations of robustness with structured uncertainties. The applicable aircraft system is assumed to be linear with time-varying with nonlinear bounded perturbations.
Until now various model matching systems have been proposed for linear system, but very little has been done for nonlinear system In this paper, a design method of discrete time flight control system using nonlinear model matching is proposed. This method is based on Hirschorn's algorithm and facilitates easy determination of the control law using the relationship, between the output and the input, which is obtained by the time shift of the output. Also as a result, this method is the extension of the linear model matching control system proposed by Wolovich, in which the control law is obtained by left-multiplying the output by the interactor matrix. At the end of paper, the proposed control system is applied to CCV flight control system of an aircraft and the feasibility of the proposed approach is shown by the numerical simulations.
In this paper, we propose an adaptive neural dynamic surface control (DSC) approach with $H_{\infty}$ tracking performance for full dynamics of nonlinear flight systems. It is assumed that the model uncertainties such as structured and unstrutured uncertainties, and external disturbances influence the nonlinear aircraft model. In our control system, self recurrent wavelet neural networks (SRWNNs) are used to compensate the model uncertainties of nonlinear flight systems, and an adaptive DSC technique is extended for the disturbance attenuation of nonlinear flight systems. All weights of SRWNNs are trained on-line by the smooth projection algorithm. From Lyapunov stability theorem, it is shown that $H_{\infty}$ performance nom external disturbances can be obtained. Finally, we present the simulation results for a nonlinear six-degree-of-freedom F-16 aircraft model to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed control system.
