  • The polyurethane resin used for the garment skin leather surface coating was synthesized by varying the content of polyethylene glycol (PEG) in [NCO] / [OH] mole % ratio. The mechanical properties of the synthesized polyurethane resin were analyzed by SEM, FT-IR, UTM. As the [NCO] / [OH] mole % ratio of nonionic poly ethylene glycol (PEG) increased, there was no change in flexural resistance (dry, wet) and abrasion resistance and tensile strength measurement value were lowered. In contrast, the elongation property values were increased. The result of viscosity measurement showed that the viscosity became thinner with increasing [NCO] / [OH] mole % of PEG.

  • This study relates to a microemulsion gel which is applied in various cosmetic preparations because of good appearance, superior stability and a thin, uniform, non-greasy fi Am on the skin. Main object of this study is to elucidate the influence of polyol(clarifying agent and/or coupling agent in microemulsion) on microemulsion and to establish the optimum conditions for microemulsion gel formation in the view of superior consistency, stability, clarity and pick-up from a container. The constituents of the system are composed of water, polar ester oi1, nonionic surfactant and polyol. Using the three-component phase diagram and the tetrahedral-phase diagram, we have investigated the changes of transparence regions, consistency and resonance effect by an impact in microemulsion gel varying in polyol ratio. The results of this study showed that the variation in the content of water and couple ins agent has major influence on the microemulsion gel and the optimum formation region of microemulsion gel is the widest when the ratio of glycerine(coupling agent) to water is 63-75% It is believed that optimum use of polyol seems to be helpful to obtain the microemulsion gel containing maximum amount of oil phase with minimum amount of surfactant which is recently one of the major problems of cosmetic chemists.

  • One phase liquid crystal formula was developed by using of nonionic surfactants, polyols, water and oils and its physical property was investigated. At the system oft to 1 ratio of POE octyldodecyl ether series, which have Y type (branch type) hydrophobic group, and POE glyceryl monostearate series, Y type hydrophilic group, it was examined that the formula at 7:3, 6:4, and 5:5 ratio of nonionic surfactant : polyols, shows L$\alpha$ , a pattern which is a typical characteristic of liquid crystal structure under the cross microscope polarized film. As results of L$\alpha$ phase diagram study, the formula which had high hydrophilic nonionic surfactant and the 7:3 ratio of nonionic surfactant : polyol appeared to increase the amount of oil containment and to be capable of the lamella formation. Besides it was examined that lamellar liquid crystal formula could contain about 25-40% water between lamella layers and it was transformed into w/o emulsion following as water content increased. When the lamella gel was applied into a human skin, it was investigated that it had effectiveness in increasing transepidermal water content of the skin.

  • D phase emulsification has been developed and elucidated the emulsification mechanism by using phase diagrams. The process of D phase emulsification begins with the formation of isotropic surfactant solution, follows by formation of oil-in-surfactant (O/D) gel emulsion by dispersion of octamethylcyclotetra siloxane(OMCS) in the surfactant solution. Polyols were essential components for this experiments. To understand the function of polyols, the solution behaviors of nonionic surfactant/oil/water/polyol systems were investigated by the ternany phase diagrams of polyoxyethylene oleyl ether/OMCS/propylene glycol(PG) aqueous solutions. The solubility of oil in the isotropic surfactant phase was increased with the addition of PG. D phase emulsion was formed in the range of 70~90% of OMCS and 2.0~3.0 dyne/cm of interfacial tension and the structure was homogenious spherical and O/W type and its diameter was about $10{\mu}m$.

  • The emulsion stability of W/O emulsion prepared by D phase emulsification during storage and handling is studied by using phase diagrams. The process of D phase emulsification begins with the formation of isotropic surfactant solution, followed by formation of oil-in-surfactant (O/D) gel emulsion by dispersion of octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane(OMCS) in the surfactant solution. Polyols were essential components for this purpose. To understand the function of polyols, the solution behavior of nonionic surfactant/oil/water/polyol systems were investigated by the ternary phase diagrams of polyoxyethylene oleyl ether/OMCS/propylene glycol(PG) aqueous solutions. The addition of PG increased the solubility of oil in the isotropic surfactant phase. D phase emulsification method has been applied to a new type of cosmetics. By using this emulsification technique, O/W emulsion were formed without a need for adjust of HLB. Fine and stable W/O emulsions were prepared by D phase emulsion.

  • We have investigated the effects of polyols and NaCl on the rheological behaviours of surfactant mixtures. Sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB), disodium cocoamphodiacetate (DSCA), cocamide DEA (CDEA) and lauroyl/myristoyl DEA (LMDE) were used as surfactants. The polyols added into the surfactant mixture were 1,3-butylene glycol, propylene glycol, glycerin, sorbitol, dipropylene glycol, PEG 1500 and PEG 400. The addition of amphoteric surfactant to SLES aqueous solution lead to increase the height of foam and the viscosity of the system. The addition of nonionic surfactant, LMDE or CDEA to the SLES aqueous solution increased the viscosity and the effect of LMDE was better than that of CDEA. The effect of adding polyols and NaCl into the surfactant mixture aqueous solution lead to increase or decrease the viscosity of the systems depending on the concentration of NaCl and the kinds of polyols. These results can be explained through the salting in or salting out of surfactant of the systems.

  • The liposomes have been developed in many drugs and cosmetics fields. The liposomes prepared with main compounds of the intercellular lipids and lecithin. Amphiphile nonionic surfactants used for (PEG) n-sitosterol(n=5), diethanolamine cetylphosphate. The effect of gelation for liposomes have been on swelling reaction which have been mixed phospholipid with polyol-group at the high temperature. There were very good encapsulated properties of the active ingredients whether hydrophilic-group(magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, allantoin, sodium hyaluronate) and hydrophobic-group(vitamin-E acetate, vitamin-A palmitate). Optimum condition of liposomes were passed five times in the microfluidizer(700bar), wetting reaction temperature was at $95{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ for a hours. Particle size distribution of the vesicles should be within range 50-560nm(mean 200nm). The stability of liposomes for the course of time was stabilized for six months at $45^{\circ}C$. Application of the cosmetic was prepared moisturizing cream with liposomes of the phospholipid base.
