  • A solution method is presented to solve the eigenproblem arising in tile dynamic analysis of non-proportional damping systems with symmetric matrices. The method is based on tile use of Lanczos method to generate a Krylov subspace of trial vectors, witch is then used to reduce a large eigenvalue problem to a much smaller one. The method retains the η order quadratic eigenproblem, without the need to the method of matrix augmentation traditionally used to cast the problem as a linear eigenproblem of order 2n. In the process, the method preserves tile sparseness and symmetry of the system matrices and does not invoke complex arithmetics, therefore, making it very economical for use in solving large problems. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the method.

  • The paper presents results of FE-calculations on shear localizations in quasi-brittle materials during both an uniaxial plane strain compression and uniaxial plane strain extension. An elasto-plastic model with a linear Drucker-Prager type criterion using isotropic hardening and softening and non-associated flow rule was used. A non-local extension was applied in a softening regime to capture realistically shear localization and to obtain a well-posed boundary value problem. A characteristic length was incorporated via a weighting function. Attention was focused on the effect of mesh size, mesh alignment, non-local parameter and imperfections on the thickness and inclination of shear localization. Different methods to calculate plastic strain rates were carefully discussed.

  • The linear system Ax = b will have (i) no solution, (ii) only one non-trivial (trivial) solution, or (iii) infinity of solutions. Our focus will be on cases (ii) and (iii). The mathematical models of many real-world problems give rise to (a) ill-conditioned linear systems, (b) singular linear systems (A is singular with all its linearly independent rows are sufficiently linearly independent), or (c) ill-conditioned singular linear systems (A is singular with some or all of its strictly linearly independent rows are near-linearly dependent). This article highlights the scope and need of a randomized algorithm for ill-conditioned/singular systems when a reasonably narrow domain of a solution vector is specified. Further, it stresses that with the increasing computing power, the importance of randomized algorithms is also increasing. It also points out that, for many optimization linear/nonlinear problems, randomized algorithms are increasingly dominating the deterministic approaches and, for some problems such as the traveling salesman problem, randomized algorithms are the only alternatives.

  • The goal of this study is to analyse the stress and the strain occurring within the work piece at the fine-blanking process and hence to assume the size direction and a distribution chart of the shearing stress as the penetration of the punch is being increased trough the application of the FEM. For this analysis we introduced the piece-wise linear method in the non linear structural analysis program for large deformation sheet metal forming and we defined it as the problem of the non linear contact. Therefore we modeled the above problems as quadratic-nodded axi-symmetrical elements for the character-istics of the work piece. From the result of this analysis it was found that the shearing stress is a great deal occurred on the surface of the work piece during the beginning process of the punch penetration and it's effect is expected to influence importantly for the formation of burnish because the deeper is the penetration of the punch in the narrow clearance zone. the greater is the degree of the strain stress.

  • The control of the deformative behaviour of pre-stressed concrete roof elements for a satisfactory service performance is a main issue of their structural design. Slender light-weight wing-shaped roof elements, typical of the European heritage, are particularly sensitive to this problem. The paper presents the results of deformation measurements during storage and of both torsional-flexural and purely flexural load tests carried out on a full-scale 40.5 m long innovative wing-shaped roof element. An element-based simplified integral procedure that de-couples the evolution of the deflection profile with the progressive shortening of the beam is adopted to catch the experimental visco-elastic behaviour of the element and the predictions are compared with normative close-form solutions. A linear 3D fem model is developed to investigate the torsional-flexural behaviour of the member. A mechanical non-linear beam model is used to predict the purely flexural behaviour of the roof member in the pre- and post-cracking phases and to validate the loss prediction of the adopted procedure. Both experimental and numerical results highlight that the adopted analysis method is viable and sound for an accurate simulation of the service behaviour of precast roof elements.

  • This study is concerned with selecting mutually dependent quality improvement alternatives with resource constraints. These qualify improvement alternatives art different fro the tradition at alternatives which are independent from each other. In other words, selection of any improvement alternative requires other related specific improvement. Also the overall product quality in a multi stage manufacturing process is characterized by a complex multiplication method rather than a simple addition method which dose not allow to solve a linear knapsack problem despite its popularity in the traditional study. This study suggests a non-linear integer programming model for selecting mutually dependent quality improvement alternatives in multi-stage manufacturing process. In order to apply the model to selecting alternatives. This study also suggests a heuristic mode1 based on a dynamic programming model which is more practical than the non-linear integer programming model. The logic of the heuristic model enables 1) to estimate improvement effectiveness values on all improvement alternatives specifically defined for this study. 2) to arrange the effectiveness values in a descending order, and 3) to select the best one among the alternatives based on their forward and backward linkage relationships. This process repeats to selects other best alternatives within the resource constraints. This process is presented in a Computer programming in Appendix A. Alsc a numerical example of model application is presented in Chapter 4.

  • We calculate the benefit of distributed combined heat power generators from avoiding a transmission expansion cost by building distributed generators near electricity demand centers. We determine a transmission expansion plan by solving a mixed integer linear problem, where we modify capacities of existing transmission lines and build new transmission lines. We calculate the benefit by comparing the sum of generation and transmission expansion costs with or without distributed generators through two simulation frames. In the first frame, for the current demand, we substitute existing distributed generators for non-distributed generators and measure an additional cost to balance the generation and demand. In the second frame, for increased future demand, we compare the cost to invest only in distributed generators to the cost to invest only in non-distributed generators. As a result, we show that the distributed generators have at least 5.8 won/kWh of the benefit from avoiding the transmission expansion cost.

  • In this research, we study a modified relaxed Tseng method with a single projection approach for solving common solution to a fixed point problem involving finite family of τ-demimetric operators and a quasi-monotone variational inequalities in real Hilbert spaces with alternating inertial extrapolation steps and adaptive non-monotonic step sizes. Under some appropriate conditions that are imposed on the parameters, the weak and linear convergence results of the proposed iterative scheme are established. Furthermore, we present some numerical examples and application of our proposed methods in comparison with other existing iterative methods. In order to show the practical applicability of our method to real word problems, we show that our algorithm has better restoration efficiency than many well known methods in image restoration problem. Our proposed iterative method generalizes and extends many existing methods in the literature.

  • This paper contains the multi-mission scheduling optimization of UAV within a given operating time. Mission scheduling optimization problem is one of combinatorial optimization, and it has been shown to be NP-hard(non-deterministic polynomial-time hardness). In this problem, as the size of the problem increases, the computation time increases dramatically. So, we applied the genetic algorithm to this problem. For the application, we set the mission scenario, objective function, and constraints, and then, performed simulation with MATLAB. After 1000 case simulation, we evaluate the optimality and computing time in comparison with global optimum from MILP(Mixed Integer Linear Programming).

  • This paper treats with the sub-optimal control problem of noninear systems by approximation method. This method involves the approximation by linearization which provides the sub-optimal solution of non-linear control problems. The result of this work shows that, in the problem in which the controlled plant is characterized by an ordinary differential equation of first order, the solution obtained by this method coincides with the exact solution of problem. In of case of the second or higher order systems, it is proved analytically that this method of linearization produces the sub-optimal solution of the given problem. It is also shown that the sub-optimality of solution by the method can be evaluated by introducing the upper and lower bounded performance indices. Discussion is made on the procedure with some illustrative examples whose performance indices are given in the quadratic forms.
