The substance of the use of the derived non-linear creep constitutive equations under variable stress levels (see first part of the paper, Kmet 2004) is explained and the strategy of their application is outlined using the results of one-step creep tests of the steel spiral strand rope as an example. In order to investigate the creep strain increments of cables an experimental set-up was originally designed and a series of tests were carried out. Attention is turned to the individual main steps in the production and application procedure, i.e., to the one-step creep tests, definition of loading history, determination of the kernel functions, selection and definition of constitutive equation and to the comparison of the resulting values considering the product and the additive forms of the approximation of the kernel functions. To this purpose, the parametrical study is performed and the results are presented. The constitutive equations of non-linear creep of cable under variable stress history offer a strong tool for the real simulation of stochastic variable load history and prediction of realistic time-dependent response (current deflection and stress configuration) of structures with cable elements. By means of suitable stress combination and its gradual repeating various loads and times effects can be modelled.

In this study a simple model is developed that predicts impact damage in a composite laminate using an analytical model. The model uses a non-linear approximation method (Rayleigh-Ritz) and the large deflection plate theory to predict the number of failed plies and damage area in a quasi-isotropic composite circular plate (axisymmetric problem) due to a point impact load at its centre. It is assumed that the deformation due to a static transverse load is similar to that occurred in a low velocity impact. It is found that the model, despite its simplicity, is in good agreement with FEM predictions and experimental data for the deflection of the composite plate and gives a good estimate of the number of failed plies due to fibre breakage. The predicted damage zone could be used with a fracture mechanics model developed by the second investigator and co-workers to calculate the compression after impact strength of such laminates. This approach could save significant running time when compared to FEM solutions.
In this study a simple model is developed that predicts impact damage in a composite laminate avoiding the need of the time-consuming dynamic finite element method (FEM). An actuator should be added to a existing control linkage to make manned aircraft to unmanned. But it is quiet difficult to synchronize actuator with control surface because non-linear error necessarily occurs when four-bar linkage acts in three dimensional motion. In addition, in point of controller design view, while a real-time model needs the control surface deflection as its input, controller needs the actuator command as its output. Hence, the relation between both should be investigated. In this paper, the mathematical relation between actuator and control surface deflection investigated by kinematic analysis of a plant aircraft. The performance margin of the selected actuator also was verified.

In this paper we investigate characteristics of deflection for circular plate with the non-symmetric boundary condition that is the boundary condition partly supported along the width direction of plate according to the length change of supporting end. For two boundary conditions such as simple supported and completely clamped boundary conditions, this study derives the maximum deflection formula of the circular plate using differential equation of elastic curve, assuming that a circular plate is a beam with the change of width and thickness along the longitudinal direction. The deflection formula of circular plate is verified by carrying out finite element analysis with regard to the ratio of length of supporting end to radius of circular plate.

A cable tray is a structure made of metal or a non-combustible material that supports cables in the electrical wiring of buildings. Cable trays should be developed to meet the various requirements of the construction site. In this study, a design system was developed to calculate the maximum support load and the maximum deflection according to the cross-sectional shape of the cable tray. The cross-sections of cable trays were modeled by combining linear and arc elements, and cross-sectional characteristics such as the 2nd moment of area were calculated. The distributed load and the concentrated load were applied to the cable tray using the Euler beam theory, and then the deflection profiles and maximum stress were calculated. To verify the developed system, deflection distributions and maximum stresses for two types of cable trays were calculated and compared. The maximum deflection and maximum stress errors calculated from the developed system were found to be less than 4% compared with numerical analysis results.

This paper is on the research of the special character of the dynamic response according to a design of the clamped reinforced concrete slab. In this study, the 20-node solid element has been used to analyze the dynamic characteristics of RC slabs with clamped edges. The elasto-visco plastic model for material non-linearity and the smeared crack model have been adopted in the finite element formulation. The design factor, which affect the dynamic response of the reinforced concrete slab, are the steel layer thickness, steel layer depth, steel layout method, steel layout angle and the slab thickness and span ratio. The main purpose of this study was to find out the dynamic response of the reinforced concrete slab according to above variables. The reduction of deflection/thickness ratio appeared less than 2% when the slab thickness between 20 and 21cm. It is desirable that the slab thickness must be above 20-21cm. The reduction ratio of deflection is appeared greatly when the value of the span/thickness ratio is between 25 and 30. In conclusion, the steel layer depth and thickness had a little effect on deflection of the dynamic response, but had no effect on the steel layout angle.

in this paper a dolphin-fender moored pontoon-type floating structure in shallow water depth is studied focusing on mooring force. The pontoon-type floating structure is 500m long, 300m wide. The structure has partially non-uniform drafts of 2.0m and 3.0m. The employed mooring system is a guyed frame type dolphin-fender system. The 1/125 scale model fender system is made of rubber tube to have hi-linear load deflection characteristics. A series of model tests has been conducted focusing on motion and fender force responses in regular and irregular waves at KRISO's ocean engineering basin Non-linear numerical simulation of fender reaction force has been carried out and the results are compared with those of model tests. The simulated rigid body motion and mooring forces also have been compared with the test results.

This paper explores the governing differential equations for the non-linear behavior of shear deformable simple beam with a concentrated load. In order to apply the Bernoulli-Euler beam theory to simple beam, the bending moment equation on any point of the elastica is obtained by concentrated load. The Runge-Kutta and Regula-Felsi methods, respectively, are used to integrate the governing differential equations and to compute the beam's rotation at the left end of the beams. The characteristic values of deflection curves for various load parameters are calculated and discussed
This paper presents a method for evaluating the performance of a leaf spring suspension and an air spring suspension systems for trucks in terms of ride and handling. Leaf springs, which generally have non-linear progressive force-deflection characteristics, are modeled using beam and contact elements. The leaf spring analysis model shows good correlation with experimental results. Each component of an air spring suspension system, which is a single leaf, air spring, height control valve, compressor and linkages, is modeled appropriately. Non-linear characteristics of air spring are accounted for using the measured data, and pressure and volume relations for height control system is also considered. The wheel rate of the air suspension is taken lower but roll stiffness is taken higher than those of leaf springs to improve ride and handling performance, which is verified through driving simulations.
