Dynamic analysis of a plate with non-linearity due to large deformation is performed in the study. There have been many researches about the non-linear dynamic behavior of plates examining by means of theoretical or numerical analyses. But it is important how exactly model the actual system. In this respect, the Continuous-Time system identification technique is used to generate non-linear models, for stiffness and damping terms, to explain the observed behaviors with single mode assumptions for the simplicity after comparing the experimental results with the numerical results of a linear plate model.

In this paper, mechanical behavior of unidirectional composites with flexible matrix was predicted by geometrical non-linear finite element analysis. Two typical idealized unit cells of square and hexagonal fiber arrays were modeled and these were subjected to different loadings. The stress-strain behavior of composites was predicted from which the effective properties were calculated. The hyperelasticity of polyurethane matrix was considered using Mooney-Rivlin model. In result, the stress-strain behavior of flexible composites shows non-linearity, especially it is remarkable under transverse normal and shear loading conditions. In this cases, there are great difference between square and hexagonal fiber array models.
Analytical investigations were performed of a longitudinal crack representing a cylindrical surface in circular shafts loaded in torsion with taking into account the non-linear material behavior. Both functionally graded and multilayered shafts were analyzed. It was assumed that the material is functionally graded in radial direction. The mechanical behavior of shafts was modeled by using non-linear constitutive relations between the shear stresses and shear strains. The fracture was studied in terms of the strain energy release rate. Within the framework of small strain approach, the strain energy release rate was derived in a function of the torsion moments in the cross-sections ahead and behind the crack front. The analytical approach developed was applied to study the fracture in a clamped circular shaft. In order to verify the solution derived, the strain energy release rate was determined also by considering the shaft complimentary strain energy. The effects were evaluated of material properties, crack location and material non-linearity on the fracture behavior. The results obtained can be applied for optimization of the shafts structure with respect to the fracture performance. It was shown that the approach developed in the present paper is very useful for studying the longitudinal fracture in circular shafts in torsion with considering the material non-linearity.
Since there are several places located in active seismic zones in the world, serious damages and losses have happened due to major scaled earthquakes. Especially, structures having different irregularities have been severely damaged or collapsed during these seismic events. Behavior of existing structures under several loading conditions is not completely determined due to some uncertainties. This situation reveals the importance of design and analysis of structures under seismic effects. Several non-linear static procedures have been developed in recent years. Determination of the seismic safety of the existing structures and strengthening techniques are significant civil engineering problems Non-linear methods are defined in codes to determine the performance levels of structures more accurately. However, displacement based ones give more realistic results. These methods provide more reliable evaluation possibilities for existing structures with developing computer technology. In this study, non-linear performance analysis of existing and strengthened steel structures by X shaped bracing members with 3, 5 and 7 stories which have soft story irregularity is performed according to FEMA-356 and Turkish Earthquake Code-2007. Damage ratios of the structural members and global performance levels are determined as well as modal properties and story drift ratios after non-linear finite elements analysis for each structure.
Residual stress by welding should be reduced because that decreases the reliability on strength of welded structure. The reason is that the total stiffness of structure decreases by non-linear behavior of weldment under external load. The release of residual stress by mechanical loading and unloading is often performed in the fabrication of box structure for steel bridge. The proper degree of loading and unloading is significant at release method of residual stress by mechanical loading because that degree is changed by material and geometric shape of welded structure. Therefore, the simulation model that could exactly analyze the release of residual stress by mechanical loading is to be necessary. This simulation model should be established on the based of variable and accurate measurement data. In this study, the non-linear behavior of weldments under external loading and unloading, such as the decrease and increase of structure stiffness, was investigated by monitoring of nominal stress and strain. Tensile loading and unloading test under variable load was performed and the proper degree of stress relaxation was measured by sectioning technique using strain gauge.

In this paper, a total strain-based hysteretic material model based on MCFT is proposed for non-linear finite element analysis of reinforced concrete structures. Although many concrete models have been proposed for simulating behavior of structures under cyclic loading conditions, accurate simulations remain challenging due to uncertainties in materials, pitfalls of crude assumptions of existing models, and limited understanding of failure mechanisms. The proposed model is equipped with a fully generalized hysteresis rule and is formulated for 2D plane stress non-linear finite element analysis. The proposed model has been formulated in a tangent stiffness-based finite element scheme so that it can be used for most general finite element analysis packages. Moreover, it eliminates the need to check that tensile stresses can be transmitted across a crack. The tension stiffening model is a function of the bar orientation and any orientation can be accommodated. The proposed model has been verified with a series of experimental results of 2D RC planar panels. This study also demonstrates how parameters of the proposed model associated with cyclic damage modeling influences the pinched cyclic shear behavior.

This paper focuses on the flexural behavior of RC beams externally strengthened with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) fabric. A non-linear finite element (FE) analysis strategy is proposed to support the beam flexural behavior experimental analysis. A development system (QUEBRA2D/FEMOOP programs) has been used to accomplish the numerical simulation. Appropriate constitutive models for concrete, rebars, CFRP and bond-slip interfaces have been implemented and adjusted to represent the composite system behavior. Interface and truss finite elements have been implemented (discrete and embedded approaches) for the numerical representation of rebars, interfaces and composites.

This paper presents a numerical simulation of quasi-brittle fracture in UHPFRC I-beam. A linear complementarity problem (LCP) is used to formulate the path-dependent hardening-softening behavior in non-holonomic rate form, and the PATH solver is employed to solve the LCP.

This paper is concerned with a practical guide for the ultimate longitudinal strength assessments of ships' hull structure. Rigorous non-linear structural analysis for three tanker models has been carried out to examine the ultimate strength behavior. Formula of estimating the ultimate longitudinal strength has been proposed which is modified with the results of non-linear finite element analysis of hull girders. Computational reliability and accuracy of the large-scale non-linear finite element analysis and the proposed simplified formula are verified through comparing their results with that of 1/3 scale frigate model test and DNVs program. Additionally, the ultimate longitudinal strength for ten tanker models is compared with those by the method specified in the 2nd Draft of common structural rule for tankers, which is being developed by IACS.
