  • It is very important to predict the future position for the heavy vehicle with evasive maneuvering. In this paper, we considered for the manual image tracking system. The vehicle images are received from gyro stabilized mirror system, pass through the optical lens, processed, and displayed on the TV monitor. The operator try to lay the reticle to the center of vehicle image. When the vehicle is moving, the mirror platform (actually the line of sight) should follow the vehicle and the angular rate information is picked up from the mirror stabilized system. This rate signal should be used to predict the future vehicle position. The problem is that the visual system of the human operator is in the closed loop system. The rate signals are disturbed by the operator. In addition, there are some non linearities concerned with the control handle bar and the servo control system. The proposed Kalman filter, combined with some modifications for operator disturbance rejection, improved the predication of the future vehicle position when compared with the conventional passive filter used.

An Ellerman bomb-associated surge observed by the FISS/NST

  • We observed a surge associated with an Ellerman bomb using the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph(FISS) of the New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory. The surge was seen in absorption and varied rapidly both in H alpha and Ca II 8542 line. It originated from the Ellerman bomb, and was impulsively accelerated to 20km/s of the blueshift(upward) motion. Then the gradual change from blueshift of 20km/s to redshift of 40km/s occurred in 20 minutes. Based on the measured line-of-sight velocities, we estimated the material reached up to about 5,000km height. We inferred physical parameters of the surge by adopting the cloud model, and found that the temperature of the surge material was about 25,000K and the non-thermal velocity was about 10km/s. Our results suggest that the surge might be heated intensely after it was ejected from the Ellerman bomb.

Transmission Characteristics of Indoor Infrared Diffuse Links Employing Three-Beam Optical Transmitters and Non-Imaging Receivers

  • Diffuse wireless optical communication offers more robust optical links in terms of coverage and shadowing than line-of-sight links. However, traditional diffuse wireless infrared (IR) transceiver systems are more susceptible to multi-path distortion and great power decrease, which results in limiting high-speed performance. Multi-beam is an effective technique to compensate for multi-path distortion in a wireless infrared environment. The goal of this paper is to analyze the transmission characteristics by replacing traditional diffuse system (TDS) which contains single wide angle transmitter and single element receiver by system consisting of three-beam transmitter and non-imaging receiver (TNS) attached with compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). In the simulation, we use the recursive model developed by Barry and Kahn and build the scenario based on 10 different cases which have been listed in Table 1. Moreover, we also check the reliability of the TNS diffuse link channel by BER test on the basis of different receiver positions and room sizes. The simulation results not only show the basic transmission characteristics of TNS diffuse link, but also are references to design more efficient and reliable indoor infrared transmission systems.

The Alcock-Paczynski effect via clustering shells

  • Both peculiar velocities and errors in the assumed redshift-distance relation ("Alcock-Paczynski effect") generate correlations between clustering amplitude and orientation with respect to the line-of-sight. In this talk we propose a novel technique to extract the Alcock-Paczynski, geometric, distortion information from the anisotropic clustering of galaxies in 3-dimensional redshift space while minimizing non-linear clustering and peculiar velocity effects. We capitalize on the recent, large dataset from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III), which provides a large comoving sample of the universe out to high redshift. We focus our analysis on the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) constant mass (CMASS) sample of 549,005 bright galaxies in the redshift range 0.43

  • 본 논문에서는 [논문I]의 후속편으로 전편에서 제시된 동등 수준의 서비스 제공을 위해 요구되는 페이드 마진을 시스템 및 전파환경 분석과 측정 결과를 통해 제시한다. 또한 실제 운용중인 가시 링크와 비가시 링크에 대해 이론적 요구 페이드 마진과 실제 측정한 페이드 마진을 비교하며, M/W 장치의 주파수 재배치 시 품질을 분석하는 척도로써 그 유용성을 보인다. 측정 결과에 의하면 가시 링크인 무등산-망운산은 예측한 값과 다소 차이가 있었으나, 비가시 링크인 안동 KBS-송신소는 예측 및 측정 결과가 매우 잘 일치함을 볼 수 있었다.

다중 SOP 환경하에서 IR-UWB 기반의 Non-coherent TOA 추정 기법 (Non-coherent TOA Estimation Method based on IR-UWB in Multiple SOP Environments)

  • 본 논문에서는 다수의 피코넷들이 공존 (Simultaneously Operating Piconets; SOP) 하는 환경하에서 다중 상관처리를 이용한 새로운 Non-coherent TOA 추정 기법을 제안한다. SOP 환경에서 각 피코넷들을 구분하기 위해서 Gold 시퀀스를 이용한 DSSS (Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum) 기반의 IR-UWB (Impulse Radio-Ultra WideBand) 신호를 사용하였으며 상관 특성을 개선시키기 위해서 다중 마스트 처리 (Multiple Mask Operation; MMO) 방안을 제시하였다. 직접 LOS 경로에 대한 도착 시간 (Time Of Arrival; TOA) 정보는 2단계의 대략적인(Coarse)/ 정밀 (Fine) 타이밍 검출 과정을 통해 획득된다. 제안된 기법에 대한 성능을 검증하기 위해서 IEEE 802.15.4a TG (Task Group)에서 제시한 두 채널 모델을 적용하였고 시뮬레이션 결과로부터 제안된 기법이 다수개의 피코넷이 공존하는 다중 경로 환경에서 일반적인 단일 상관 처리 기법보다 성능이 개선됨을 확인하였다.

저속도 저전력 PAN 응용을 위한 무선 비동기식 UWB 시스템 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of Wireless Asynchronous UWB System for low-rate low power PAN applications)

  • 본 논문에서는 다중객체 인식 시스템과 같은 저용량 데이터전송의 저전력 무선센서네트워크 분야에 적용 가능한 새로운 펄스 방식의 저 속도 무선 비동기식 UWB(Wireless Asynchronous Ultra-Wide band) 시스템을 제안하고 이를 설계 및 구현한다. 특히, 펄스방식의 저전력 UWB시스템을 구현하기 위해서 전형적인 통신시스템의 수신기 구조인 RF단의 믹서, 상관기와 A/D 변환기를 없애고 최대한 단순화된 구조의 무선 비동기 방식의 UWB 송수신기를 설계하였다. 또한, 설계된 무선 비동기식 UWB 시스템의 테스트베드를 구현하였고, 구현된 무선 비동기식 UWB 시스템의 응용 시스템 예로 홈 내 또는 강의실과 같은 곳에서 하나의 송신 무선 비동기식 UWB 송신기 측에서 10 m 거리 범위 내에 있는 다수의 수신 무선 비동기식 UWB 측으로 동시에 그림이나 글을 전송할 수 있는 1:N HD(Half Duplex) 방식의 저전력 무선 캔버스(CANVAS) 시스템을 실제 구현하였다. 이를 통해, 제안된 무선 비동기식 UWB 시스템은 LOS(Line of Sight) 채널상태의 전송거리 10m에서 안정적으로 최대 115kbps 급의 전송속도가 지원 가능함을 확인하였다.

A 60GHz Wireless Cooperative Communication System Based on Switching Beamforming

  • The challenge of penetrating obstacles along with impact from weak multipath effects makes 60GHz signal very difficult to be transmitted in non-line of sight (NLOS) channel. So 60GHz system is vulnerable to obstructions and thus likely results in link interruption. While the application of cooperative technology to solve link blockage problemin 60GHz system should consider the characteristic of directional transmission for 60GHz signal. Therefore in this paper a system is proposed to solve the link blockage problem in 60GHz NLOS communication environment based on the concept of cooperation and also the beamforming technology, which is the basis of directional transmission for 60GHz communication system. The process of anti-blockage solution with cooperative communication is presented in detail, and the fast switching and recovery schemes are well designed. The theoretical values of symbol error rate (SER) using decode and forward (DF) cooperation and amplify and forward (AF) cooperation are presented respectively when the common channel interference exists. Simulation results demonstrate that the performance based on DF cooperation is better than the performance based on AF cooperation when directional transmission is used.

High-resolution mass models of the Large Magellanic Cloud

  • We perform disk-halo decomposition of the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) using a novel HI velocity field extraction method, aimed at better deriving its HI kinematics and thus mass distribution in the galaxy including both baryons and dark matter. We decompose all the line-of-sight velocity profiles of the combined HI data cube of the LMC, taken from the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA) and Parkes radio telescopes with an optimal number of Gaussian components. For this, we use a novel tool, the so-called BAYGAUD which performs profile decomposition based on Bayesian MCMC techniques. From this, we disentangle turbulent non-ordered HI gas motions from the decomposed gas components, and produce an HI bulk velocity field which better follows the global circular rotation of the galaxy. From a 2D tilted-ring analysis of the HI bulk velocity field, we derive the rotation curve of the LMC after correcting for its transverse, nutation and precession motions. The dynamical contributions of baryons like stars and gaseous components which are derived using the Spitzer 3.6 micron image and the HI data are then subtracted from the total kinematics of the LMC. Here, we present the bulk HI rotation curve, the mass models of stars and gaseous components, and the resulting dark matter density profile of the LMC.

다중경로 환경에서의 TOA방식과 TDOA방식의 측위성능 비교 (Comparisons of Error Characteristics between TOA and TDOA Positioning in Dense Multipath Environment)

  • TOA(time-of-arrival) and TDOA(time-difference-of-arrival) positioning techniques are commonly used in many radio-navigation systems. From the literature, it is known that the position estimate and error covariance matrix of TDOA obtained by GN(Gauss-Newton) method is exactly the same as that of TOA when the error source of the range measurement is only an IID white Gaussian noise. In case of geo-location and indoor positioning, however, multi-path or NLOS(non-line-of-sight) error is frequently appeared in range measurements. Though its occurrence is random, the multipath acts like a bias for a stationary user if it occurs. This paper presents the comparisons of error characteristics between TOA and TDOA positioning in presence of multi-path or NLOS error. It is analytically shown that the position estimate of TDOA is exactly the same as that of TOA even when bias errors are included in range measurements with different magnitudes. By computer simulation, position estimation error and error distribution are analyzed in presence of range bias errors.
