  • A method is presented for evaluating the seismic failure probability of bridge structures which show a nonlinear hysteretic dynamic behavior. Bridge structures are modeled as a bilinear dynamic system with a single degree of freedom. We regarded that the failure of bridges will occur when the displacement response of a deck level firstly crosses the predefined limit state during a duration of strong motion. For the estimation of the first-crossing probability of a nonlinear structural system excited by earthquake motion, we computed the average frequency of crossings of the limit state. We presented the non-Gaussian closure method for the approximation of the joint probability density function of response and its derivative, which is required for the estimation of the average frequency of crossings. The failure probabilities are estimated according to the various artificial earthquake acceleration sets representing specific seismic characteristics. For the verification of the accuracy and efficiency of presented method, we compared the estimated failure probabilities with the results evaluated from previous methods and the exact values estimated with the crude Monte-Carlo simulation method.

  • In this study, numerical analysis and model experiments were conducted to analyze behavioral characteristics acting on the track roadbed with excavation through steel pipe injection, a non-exclusive method of crossing construction under railroad as primary target. In model experiments that simulate injection excavation behaviors with an increase in the depth of soil cover, the upper displacement was measured by construction of the first and the second pipes in order to predict actual behaviors, and the behavior characteristics were verified through numerical analysis. The investigation results showed that surface displacement was smaller under the condition of higher soil cover. In the case of injecting two pipes, when the first pipe was injected, deformation of the surface increased linearly in both settlement and uplift experiments. However, when the second pipe was injected, the amount of change was found to be very small due to the relaxation and plastic zones around the first pipe. In addition, the results of numerical analysis on the same cross section with the model experiment found that the results of investigation into settlement ratio and volume loss were in very good agreement with those obtained by the model experiment.

  • Pantograph must be correctly attached to catenary to continuously supply stable power to railway vehicle, and the device used here is Auxiliary Air Compressor (ACM). The existing ACM used the DC motor that included commutator and brush. Since maintenance and repair by mechanical friction are essential for the DC motor, BLDC motor studies have been conducted to improve this. A three-phase BLDC motor does $120^{\circ}$ two-phase commutation through hall sensors in general. However, since hall sensor is vulnerable to heat and can run only when all three sensors work normally, sensorless control method has been studied to solve this. Using back EMF Zero Crossing Point (ZCP) detection method, this paper will introduce a stable switching sensing method that has a non-commutation area in a low speed zone.

  • In this paper. a method for color image segmentation using region merging is proposed. A inhomogeneity which exists in image is reduced by smoothing with non-linear filtering. saturation enhancement and intensity averaging in previous step of image segmentation. and a similar regions are segmented by non-uniform quantization using zero-crossing information of color histogram. A edge strength of initial region is measured using high frequency energy of wavelet transform. A candidate region which is merged in next step is selected by doing this process. A similarity measure for region merging is processed using Euclidean distance of R. G. B color channels. A Proposed method can reduce an over-segmentation results by irregular light sources et. al, and we illustrated that the proposed method is reasonable by simulation.

  • Railroad level crossing systems are used to prevent train from collisions by informing pedestrians and vehicles of approaching trains on the level crossing. The current detection systems mostly use track-based electrical circuits to detect approaching trains. The making and breaking of the circuit when the train wheel passes along the track sends a signal to barriers that restrict access to the track. Unfortunately, this track-based signal system is vulnerable to malfunctions in certain situations. If the rail becomes rusted due to moisture, weather conditions, or infrequent use, the electrical circuit detection system could fail. Such a failure could lead to a train-vehicle or train-pedestrian collision. This paper suggests a replacement of the electrical circuit-based system with an infrared detection system. The research shows that an infrared detection system improves safety by reducing the frequency of detection failure of the alarming circuit to system.

  • This document presents the JES(Joint Element Structure) method that has been adopted for the firs time in our country for the construction of the structure crossing under the railroad without open excavation. Front Jacking Method, Tubular Roof Construction Method, New Tubular Roof Method and Joint Element Structure Method are commonly used for the construction of structures crossing under the railroad. JES Method, frequently used in Japan recently, is a new method to construct the structures crossing under the railroad in a safe manner and in a relatively short period of time by utilizing the steel elements with the joints through which the load in the vertical angle to the axial direction is transferred to the next element. The elements are tied to each other through the joints to form the permanent walls of a Rahmen structure under the road without open excavation and without limitation to the length in a convenient way. Through the case study in the project of a Subway Box Culvert Improvement for the Gyeonguiseon Railroad in front of Yonsei University using the JES Method, the cost and period of construction in various types of soil is investigated compared to the Front Jacking Method. Furthermore, by analyzing the results of instrumentation measurements carried out throughout the construction, comparison between the actual displacement in the ground and the predicted displacement in the design is made to provide the considerations to be counted for the design. In conclusion, comparison in the field of economic feasibility, constructability and safety between the JES Method and Front Jacking Method, which is most frequently adopted in our country at present, is made to present the JES Method as a new alternative for the non-open excavation construction method for the structures crossing under the railway.

  • The ratio of form and character in the text generation of silkworms which were double copulated between home race copulation and hetero race copulation in crossing with two males of different races for female(double crossing) are different according to the copulating time, copulating order and sperm activities. But the general tendencies are as follows; 1. During two hour's double copulation, sufficiently ejaculating time, the fertilization percentage of hetero lace copulation are higher than that of homo race, but in case of double copulation with plain and normal marked silkworms showed opposite results. The fertilization percentage of homo race copulation are equal or higher compare with that of hetero race copulation. 2. The form and character of the next generation were largely effected by copulating order, so the primary copulating moths are more effected in the next generation than the secondary moths. 3. The active sperms were more fertilized than non-active sperms in the double copulation.

  • Author studied to investigate the form and character of silkworm, Bombyx mori L. which bred from double copulation. The results obtained are as follows. 1. Some eggs of silkworm were fertilized evenly 10 minutes copulation, but it was varried by the race of the worm. In silkworm eggs production, the male and female should be separated from the early stage of 5th instar in order to do not make non hybrid eggs. 2. It was very difficult to find the tendency of fertilization ratio between homo race copulation and hetero race copulation in crossing with mates of two different race for a female (double crossing).

  • The famous filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm for active noise control (ANC) systems may become unstable in non-stationary noise environment. To solve this problem, Sun's algorithm and Akhtar's algorithm are developed based on modifying the reference signal in update of FxLMS algorithm, but these two algorithms have dissatisfactory stability in dealing with sustaining impulsive noise. In proposed algorithm, probability estimation and zero-crossing rate (ZCR) control are used to improve the stability and performance, at the same time, an optimal parameter selection based on fuzzy system is utilized. Computer simulation results prove the proposed algorithm has faster convergence and better stability in non-stationary noise environment.

  • Optimization problems are formulated to calculate optimal impulses for deflecting Earth-Crossing Objects using a Nonlinear Programming. This formulation allows us to analyze the velocity changes in normal direction to the celestial body's orbital plane, which is neglected in many previous studies. The constrained optimization in the three-dimensional space is based on a patched conic method including the Earth's gravitational effects, and yields impulsive ${\Delta}V$ to deflect the target's orbit. The optimal solution is dependent on relative positions and velocities between the Earth and the Earth-crossing objects, and can be represented by optimal magnitude and angle of ${\Delta}V $ as a functions of a impulse time. The perpendicular component of ${\Delta}V $ to the orbit plane can sometimes play un-negligible role as the impulse time approaches the impact time. The optimal ${\Delta}V $ is increased when the original orbit of Earth-crossing object is more similar to the Earth's orbit, and is also exponentially increased as the impulse time reaches to the impact time. The analyses performed in present paper can be used to the deflection missions in the future.
