Conventional robot manipulators actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as the harmonic drive have weakness in the load capacity, since the speed reducer does not have enough strength. To improve this, a new type of robot actuator based on the four-bar-link mechanism driven by the ball screw was constructed. Also, a new type of revolute robot manipulator composed of the developed actuators was developed. But, modelling errors occur due to the off-set from the nominal model since the exact modeling of the complex inertia variation of the four-bar-link actuator is very difficult. To control the proposed robot along the prescribed trajectory, a sliding mode control algorithm was applied with compensation function for the modeling errors. To show performance of the proposed controller, a computer simulation was performed, and its results was presented.
A novel approach to modeling concrete behavior at the stage of its maturing is presented in this paper. This approach assumes that at any point in the structure, concrete is composed of a set of layers that are activated in time layer by layer, based on amount of released heat that is produced during process of the concrete's maturing. This allows one to assume that each newly created layer has nominal stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strengths. Hence introduction of explicit stiffness moduli and tensile/compressive strength dependencies on time, or equivalent time state parameter, is not needed. Analysis of plain concrete (PC) and reinforced concrete (RC) structures, especially massive ones, subjected to any kind of straining in their early stage of existence, mostly due to external loads but especially by thermal loading and shrinkage, is the goal of the approach. In this article a simple elasto-plastic softening model with creep is used for each layer and a general layered model behavior is illustrated on one-dimensional (1D) examples.

Nowadays, the researches about composite structure system are being implemented in various fields, and many steel structures are designed based on that. In this study, the bending and seismic performance of the newly developed high-performance cold forming composite beam are evaluated by several experiments. As a result of the bending performance test, the bending moment of beam was increased stably depending on the depth and plate thickness of beam, and it is considered that the bending moment can be evaluated by the equation of a composite beam design. As a result of the seismic performance test, it was verified that sufficient seismic performance was obtained despite the increase of a negative moment rebar and depth of beam. In addition, the nominal bending moment has obtained the strength above the plastic bending moment, and also the plastic rotation angle has satisfied the requirement of composite intermediate moment frame.

In this paper, the flexural capacity equation of FRP-bar reinforced concrete beams was verified by comparing the experimental results and flexural capacity obtained according to the ACI procedure. And, also the economic feasibility of FRP-bar reinforced concrete beams was analyzed by comparing nominal moment capacity of beams. The results of analysis were as follows, 1) GFRP concrete beams have lower flexural performance than reinforced concrete beams, whereas CFRP concrete beams have similar flexural performance to reinforced concrete beams under the same reinforcement ratio 2) Although the design moment increased as the compressive strength of concrete increased, the flexural performance of GFRP reinforced concrete beams was found to be lower than the reinforced concrete beams for all reinforcement ratios.
This paper describes the structural behavior and the ultimate strengths of circular hollow steel (CHS) sections based on a series of compression tests. The ultimate strengths of CHS section columns are mainly dependent on both diameter-thickness ratio and column slenderness ratio. For the CHS sections with a high diameter-thickness ratio, an elastic or an inelastic local buckling may occur prior to the overall buckling, and it may decrease the column strength. Test sections were fabricated from SM400 steel plate of 2.8 mm and 3.2 mm in thickness and were tested to failure. The diameter-thickness ratios of the test sections ranged from 45 to 170 to investigate the effect of local buckling on the column strength. The compression tests indicated that the CHS sections of lower diameter-thickness ratio than the yield limit in the current design specifications showed an inelastic local buckling and a significant post-buckling strength in the local mode. Their ultimate stresses were larger than the nominal yield stress. It was known that the allowable stresses of the sections predicted by the Korean Highway Bridge Design Specifications (2005) were too conservative in comparison with test results. The Direct Strength Method which was newly developed was calibrated for application to the CHS sections by the experimental and numerical results. The Direct Strength Method proposed can predict properly the ultimate strength of CHS section columns whether a local buckling and an overall buckling occur nearly simultaneously or not.

In designing a high strength bolted beam splice using steel for building structures, it is necessary to present the appropriate steel grade selection criteria for how to determine the cover plate steel grade. This study examined the difference in tensile behavior according to the steel grades through static tensile tests simulating the beam member high strength bolt joints flange. For this purpose, the specimens were designed and fabricated with the main variables, such as the thickness, steel grade and the strength of flange and cover plate, which are expected to affect the splice strength and behavior. The tensile test results for a total of 48 specimens showed that the tensile-load capacity exceeded the design tensile strength applied with a nominal strength of steel in all specimens. When the design strength of the cover plate exceeded 1.25 times that of the flange plate, the flange plate governed the behavior of splice. The change in maximum tensile load due to the change in flange steel grade is not very large, but there is a difference in deformation. The test results confirmed that the steel grade and thickness of the cover plate were the main factors affecting the beam splice behavior.
In eccentrically braced steel frames (EBFs), the links are fuse members which enter inelastic phase before other structure members and dissipate the seismic energy. Based on the force-based seismic design method, damages and plastic deformations are limited to the links, and the main structure members are required tremendous sizes to ensure elastic with limited or no damage. Force-based seismic design method is very common and is found in most design codes, it is unable to determine the inelastic response of the structure and the damages of the members. Nowadays, methods of seismic design are emphasizing more on performance-based seismic design concept to have a more realistic assessment of the inelastic response of the structure. Links use ordinary steel Q345 (the nominal yielding strength $f_y{\geq}345MPa$) while other members use high strength steel (Q460 $f_y{\geq}460MPa$ or Q690 $f_y{\geq}690MPa$) in eccentrically braced frames with high strength steel combination (HSS-EBFs). The application of high strength steels brings out many advantages, including higher safety ensured by higher strength in elastic state, better economy which results from the smaller member size and structural weight as well as the corresponding welding work, and most importantly, the application of high strength steel in seismic fortification zone, which is helpful to popularize the extensive use of high strength steel. In order to comparison seismic behavior between HSS-EBFs and ordinary EBFs, on the basis of experimental study, four structures with 5, 10, 15 and 20 stories were designed by PBSD method for HSS-EBFs and ordinary EBFs. Nonlinear static and dynamic analysis is applied to all designs. The loading capacity, lateral stiffness, ductility and story drifts and failure mode under rare earthquake of the designs are compared. Analyses results indicated that HSS-EBFs have similar loading capacity with ordinary EBFs while the lateral stiffness and ductility of HSS-EBFs is lower than that of EBFs. HSS-EBFs and ordinary EBFs designed by PBSD method have the similar failure mode and story drift distribution under rare earthquake, the steel weight of HSS-EBFs is 10%-15% lower than ordinary EBFs resulting in good economic efficiency.

This paper checked up the safety criteria of the steel structural members by LRFD. And it calculated the resistance and load modulus for it by the proposed method, considering our circumstance, by establisting the taget relability index (${\beta}_0$), and compared their calculated modulus with the nominal safety factors of the road-bridge code and analyzed them. Uncertain quantity measurements fnr the resistance of the steel structural members and for the load effect are due to the method of the uncertain quantity analysis of the load and the resistance, of Galambos-Ravindra and SGST. The summary of the results is as follows: 1) Considering our circumstance, taget relibility index(${\beta}_0$) for current steel structural members are appropriate ${\beta}_0=3.5$. 2) Nominal resistance ${\Phi}^{\prime}$ of the strength design formula for 1) and nominal load modulus ${\gamma}_i^{\prime}$ are as follows; a) Both-sides support plate: ${\Phi}{^{\prime}}=0.75$, ${\gamma}_0{^{\prime}}=1.04$, ${\gamma}_L{^{\prime}}=2.08$ b) One-side support plate: ${\Phi}{^{\prime}}=0.82$, ${\gamma}_0{^{\prime}}=1.04$, ${\gamma}_L{^{\prime}}=2.11$.
Specimens with fillet-welded lap joints were fabricated from 20 mm, 60 mm, and 82 mm thick steel plates produced by Thermo Mechanical Control Process. The designed sizes of filet welds were betwen 6 mm and 16 m. The welds' axes were parallel with or perpendicular to the direction of loading or a combination of them. Specimens were axialy loaded in tension and the strength of fillet-welded joints were measured. Test results showed that the strengths of filet-welded joints are higher than the nominal strengths calculated for all the cases tested, and also approximately on the same level regardless of plate thickness and fillet weld size. Especially, the specimens with weld size les than that required by Korean design rules showed no visible defects on welds and also no str ength reduction.

The flexural behavior of HSB plate girder with a non-slender web, due to inelastic lateral-torsional buckling, under uniform bending was investigated by the nonlinear finite element analysis. Both homogeneous sections fabricated from SM570-TMC, HSB600 or HSB800 steel and hybrid sections with HSB800 flanges and SM570-TMC web were considered. The flanges and web of selected noncomposite I-girders were modeled as thin shell elements and the geometrical and material nonlinear finite element analysis was performed by the ABAQUS program. The steel was assumed as an elasto-plastic strain hardening material. Initial imperfections and residual stresses were taken into account and their effects on the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling behavior were analyzed. The flexural strengths of selected sections obtained by the finite element analysis were compared with the nominal flexural strengths from KHBDC LSD, AASHTO LRFD, and Eurocode and the applicability of these codes in predicting the inelastic lateral torsional buckling strength of HSB plate girders with a non-slender web was assessed.
