Today's placement machines can pick and place thousands of components per hour with a very high degree of accuracy. The packaged semiconductor chips are inserted into a carrier at regular intervals, covered with a tape to protect the chips from external impact, and supplied in a roll form. These packaging processes also progress rapidly in a consistent direction, affecting the peelback strength between the cover tape and carrier depending on the main process conditions. In this paper, we analyzed the main process variables that affect peelback strength in the reel tape packaging process for packaging semiconductor chips. The main effects and interactions were analyzed. The peelback strength range required in the packaging process was set as the nominal the best characteristics, and the optimum process condition satisfying this was derived.
Seismic isolation is often used in protecting mission-critical structures including hospitals, data centers, telecommunication buildings, etc. Such structures typically house vibration-sensitive equipment which has to provide continued service but may fail in case sustained accelerations during earthquakes exceed threshold limit values. Thus, peak floor acceleration is one of the two main parameters that control the design of such structures while the other one is peak base displacement since the overall safety of the structure depends on the safety of the isolation system. And in case peak base displacement exceeds the design base displacement during an earthquake, rupture and/or buckling of isolators as well as bumping against stops around the seismic gap may occur. Therefore, obtaining accurate peak floor accelerations and peak base displacement is vital. However, although nominal design values for isolation system and superstructure parameters are calculated in order to meet target peak design base displacement and peak floor accelerations, their actual values may potentially deviate from these nominal design values. In this study, the sensitivity of the seismic performance of structures equipped with linear and nonlinear seismic isolation systems to the aforementioned potential deviations is assessed in the context of a benchmark shear building under different earthquake records with near-fault and far-fault characteristics. The results put forth the degree of sensitivity of peak top floor acceleration and peak base displacement to superstructure parameters including mass, stiffness, and damping and isolation system parameters including stiffness, damping, yield strength, yield displacement, and post-yield to pre-yield stiffness ratio.

This paper describes the experimental study on the structural behavior of the joint plane between a RC(Reinforced Concrete) wall and a SC(Steel Plate Concrete) wall under out-of plane flexural loads and in-plane shear loads. The test specimens were produced with L and I shape to assess efficiently flexural and shear behavior of the structures. In order to consider dynamic loads such as earthquake, cyclic loading tests were carried out. As results of the out-of plane flexural tests, ductile failure mode of vertical bars was shown under a push load and the failure load was more than nominal strength of the specimen. And the latter test was performed to verify the variation which was composition presence of horizontal bars in the SC member. The test results showed that capacity of the specimens was more than their nominal strength regardless of composition presence of horizontal bars.

An unbonded post-tensioned anchor using a 15.2 mm diameter 7-wire strand was developed based on finite element analysis and experimental testing. In order to evaluate its performance, static load tests and load transfer tests were conducted following KCI-PS101. The static load tests and additional strand tensile tests confirmed that the developed anchor had a capacity more than nominal tensile strength of a 7-wire strand without any damage or deterioration. According to the result of load transfer tests for many different reinforcing details, specimens with no additional reinforcing bars sustained at least 1.64 times the nominal tensile strength of the strand.
Flexural tests on full-scale H-shaped beams, built up from high-strength steels (HSB800 and HSA800) with a nominal tensile strength of 800 MPa, was carried out to study the effect of flange slenderness of high-strength steel on flexural strength and rotation capacity. The primary objective was to investigate the appropriateness of extrapolating current stability criteria (originally developed for ordinary steel) to high-strength steel. The performance of high-strength steel specimens was very satisfactory from the strength, but not from the rotation capacity, perspective. The inferior rotation capacity of high-strength steel beams was shown to be directly attributable to the absence of a distinct yield plateau and the high yield ratio of the material. Residual stress measurements reconfirmed that the magnitude of the residual stress is almost independent of the yield stress of the base metal.
This paper describes an experimental research on the structural behavior and the ultimate strength of longitudinally stiffened plates subjected to local, distortional, or mixed-mode buckling under compression. The stiffened plate undergoes local, distortional, or interactive local-distortional buckling according to the flexural rigidity of the plate's longitudinal stiffeners and the width-thickness ratios of the sub-panels of the stiffened plate. A significant post-buckling strength in the local and distortional modes affects the ultimate strength of the longitudinally stiffened plate. Compression tests were conducted on stiffened plates that were fabricated from 4mm-thick SM400 steel plates with a nominal yield stress of 235MPa. A simple strength formula for the Direct Strength Method based on the test results was proposed. This paper proves that the Direct Strength Method can properly predict the ultimate strength of stiffened plates when the local buckling and distortional buckling occur simultaneously or nearly simultaneously.

The layup optimization by genetic algorithm (GA) for the strength of laminated composites with free-edge is presented. For the calculation of interlaminar stresses of composite laminates with free edges, extended Kantorovich method is applied. In the formulation of GA, repair strategy is adopted for the satisfaction of given constraints. In order to consider the bounded uncertainty of material properties, convex modeling is used. Results of GA optimization with scattered properties are compared with those of optimization with nominal properties. The GA combined with convex modeling can work as a practical tool for light weight design of laminated composite structures since uncertainties are always encountered in composite materials.

In this paper, field application of mass concrete using setting time difference of super retarding agent is reported to reduce hydration heat of concrete placed at newly constructed apartment house in Daejeon. Horizontal placing lift is applied. According to test results,: slump and air content meets the requirement of target values. For compressive strength, it exceeds the nominal strength ordered by the costumer. For temperature history, maximum temperature of center at top section shows $25.6^{\circ}C$, and at bottom section, $35.4^{\circ}C$. According to naked eye's investigation, no hydration heat crack is observed at the surface of concrete.

This experimental investigation was conducted to examine the seismic performance of reinforced concrete bridge columns. The columns were subjected to a constant axial load and a cyclic horizontal load-inducing reversed bending moment. The variables studied in this research are the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement (ps = 0.96, 1.44 per cent) and axial load ratio (0.05, 0.1, 0.2 P/Po) and strength $(350kgf/cm^2,\;600kgf/cm^2)$. Test results show that bridge columns with 50 per cent higher amounts of transverse reinforcement than that required by seismic provisions of ACI 318-02 showed ductile behaviour. For bridge columns with axial load ratio(P/Po) less than 0.2, the ratio of Mmax over Mad, nominal moment capacity predicted by ACI 318-02 provisions, is consistently greater than 1 with approximately a 20 percent margin of safty.

Synthetic lightweight aggregates are manufactured with recycled plastic and fly ash with 12 percent carbon. Nominal maximum-size aggregates of 9.5mm were produced with fly ash contents of 0 percent, 35 percent, and 80 percent by total mass of the aggregate. An expanded day lightweight aggregate and a normal-weight aggregate were used as comparison. Mechanical properties of the concrete determined included density, compressive strength, elastic modulus, and splitting tensile strength. Compressive and tensile strengths were lower for the synthetic aggregates; however, comparable fracture properties were obtained. Relatively low compressive modulus of elasticity was found for concretes with the synthetic lightweight aggregate, although high ductility was also obtained. As fly ash content of the synthetic lightweight aggregate increased, all properties of the concrete were improved.
